Or use your exiting ASIO driver if available. Then you can carry on following this tutorial from the "VST Connection" part.

My 1st time using cubase LE 5 and total issues on windows 7! Keep trying to follow your instructions but keep hitting on snag after another. No guitar, so I plugged a Casio workstation in guitar input and switched to Guitar. I had us-144mkII plugged into pc. Monitor is not showing sound in channel side panel where you were tweeking sound volume. I keep hearing both my workstation and then after sound through the audio interface. I turn master volume on workstation down then hear nothing. I keep getting 2 sounds throwing me off. How do U get workstation with it's own built in speakers to shut up while trying to hear it in cubase le 5?? The click never made a sound so I had no idea of timing. I only saw Input and output in above and none of the other items you stated you saw above? My very first recording was a total fail and i am lost.
Don't get frustrated people when you have done this a few times you'll find it easy. What your doing is creating the digital wiring so to speak to connect the inputs & output's a biit like plugging in a microphone then your speaker but digitally.Cubase will need to know this information as it's not auto detected you'll need to tell it. This guy actually missed the first part of setting yoour driver. I'm running out of letters so i'll carry on on another post.
do you have a simple way of just importing a backing track and then recording a singer singing along to the backing track. I think Cubase is far to complicated to use I just want to record and playback the track and the singer together. what the hell have buses gotto do with singing ?

I first had driver total issues...saw in a forum about Asio4all then downloaded the driver since the included cd gave me no driver i guess since i kept getting currently installed soundcard driver does not support Direct Sound Input and Recording audio is not possible. Even after getting ASIO4all driver? Then I saw on another site a steinberg USB driver and downloaded that. It seemed to first work because I was getting a lot of green response in minitor but still zero clock to go by and hit record. It showed something as if recording but on playback multiple times there was total silence! Should I abandon this cubase LE 5 and just find another music software or is there any hope for me getting my first ever recording on computer??? Help!
I inserted an instrumental file on one track in stereo and then I try to record a vocals on a mono track. For some reasons, the vocals are not getting recorded. I am using Cubase 5.

+James Ruffin through ur setting in ur computers control panel were it says devices honestly i had to get someone to do it as im computer dumb lol but thats what it is. your computer needs a driver to reconize the device so cubase will. you can download them free your computer will find em in the control panel

A lead Vocal is normally recorded in mono. A bass Guitar or lead guitar are normally recorded in mono..a kick drum is normally recorded in mono.. a saxophone... Keyboard parts like pads..piano's..rhodes..an electric piano.. these things are normally recorded in stereo...as to capture them accurately..very interesting stuff happens in the stereo filed of these type of sounds. You might have 6 background vocals each recorded in mono, but you might pan 3 to varying degrees to the left and the other three varying degrees to the right..as to create a spatial stereo field.. This is just the basic info though, I hope that this helps. Oh if you are going to record a music loop like from a record or drum loop you might want to create a stereo track for that. Most music is rendered out..or mastered to a stereo output.
Cubase 5 is very picky about soundcards. If you have just a basic onboard sound on a motherboard or a laptop.. Cubase isn't going to perform well or not at all. It needs to have an ASIO driver to run well and a very good audio card that can achieve as close as possible to zero latency. 11ms as a latency is not so noticeable. I normally keep mine set at 512 to get that. ASIO4ALL is a free driver you can find and install and it may make Cubase usable by selecting it in the preferences.
GUYS help me with this problem that just suddenly accurd.. using cubase studio 5, toshiba satelite laptop, been recording before with no problems, but now, got some recorded audio on channel 1, wanna record my drums on channel 2, got channel 2 record enabled, record..and dammit it is mixed with channel 1... i think it is a routing audio issue in my windows, but i ve tried everything.. anyone know the sollution? btw also tried switching asio full duplex to asio4all no difference,

busses are separate tracks. much like tracks on a regular mechanical mixer.

check ur drivers is the program reconizing ur interafe in the device setup?
