An alternative explanation is that O-Sensi practiced with an enlightened mind. He described having two major enlightenment experiences, practicing Aikido. Although most people think of enlightenment as a ‘spiritual’ condition, it changes the way one perceives and ‘processes’ information.
    It can be described as:
“To awaken to true reality is to have a gaze that penetrates all things,
an instant total vision of the universe.”
-Kodo Sawaki Roshi ‘Commentary on the Song of Awakening’
    So when O-Sensi said:
“When an enemy tries to fight with me, the universe itself, he has to
break the harmony of the universe. Hence at the moment he has the
mind to fight with me, he is already defeated. There exists no measure
of time - fast or slow.’
He was simply stating the truth. His mind functioned at a different level!
In modern terms: most people think sequentially, yet our perception derives from massively parallel neural processing.
Imagine if our actions were directly linked to our ‘total perception.’ That is what Doshu Kenjiro Yoshigasaki suggests in his book: ‘Inner Voyage of a Stranger: Pathways to a New Perception’.
