    Took Aikido in 1972, at a Dojo in San Jose Calif. Instructor was a mixed Japanese man. His name was Mr. Kouferraft. A 9th Dan highest in US. I was a HS football player, he said be one with the earth. He asked me to push him over, I couldn’t amazing. Aikido is a soft art, defensive. Learned much from him.

      Please tell me what it is. It certainly is not a martial art. A martial art is a fighting style. Aikido has no fighting. A Martial art is about improving. Aikido is about striving to be as good as the founder. He didn't learn from other aikido masters. The founder was the standard for aikido perfection. The best masters want their students to surpass them. The ego trippers hold back things so they are always the best. It seems that no one can explain it to me. I get lots of insults, just like cult members do to stand up,for their leader. I don't like aikido because I don't trust the concept. The thing I really dont like is that a lot of teachers say that they teach self defense and knife defense which is not true. They create confident students who think they can defend themselves despite having never sparred or tested themselves in any way. Throw an opponent who cooperates fully and never tries to fight back, is useless as self defense training. It gives false confidence and so is dangerous. In a fight, they will get destroyed because they have never had a single fight.

    a lot of ignorant remarks from people who never done aikido yet feel they can give their opinion.
    the beauty of aikido is obviously that it often is not what it looks. In other martial arts a punch or a kick just are what they look. in aikido it looks soft and the oponent not resisting and just "coorporating" with the defender.
    It becomes totally different when you actually practise aikido and have some understanding.
    Aikido is not some small fringe martial art, it is mainstream, and there is a reason for that. ppl who actually try it, they like it very much and start practising aikido.
    ppl who just watch to dump a negative comment, the haters and trolls, well, thats normal at youtube.

      @@roninnovastar1321 But that's the same in many Japanese martial arts, they practice pré arranged sparring where the attacker and defender knows what they are doing in advance. This is to develop, good coordination, and distancing etc. It is important to develop the necessary skills. And sometimes people do get seriously hurt practising Aikido, there have been some people in Japan got broken necks. If you resist wrong you can get broken wrist, elbows or damaged shoulders etc and being able to fall properly is very important. If somebody who doesn't know how to take falls was thrown because they attacked an Aikido expert they could be seriously injured when hitting the ground. Of course I think it's not so much is a particular martial art effective, its more about the person performing it. And if Aikido wasn't effective, why would Japanese police use it for self defence, women police officers as well. Also some police forces in other countries use Aikido. There have been instances of Japanese Karate - ka being attacked out in the real world and quickly dispatching their attackers. A guy tryed to stab Japanese karate expert in a hotel in London and he was quickly disarmed and immobilised. Apparently Kase sensei was attacked yrs ago when out walking in Paris one evening. The mugger wanted his wallet I think, Kase didn't understand French but realised quickly what was happening. When he didn't give it, the mugger pulled a knife and tryed to stab him in the stomach, Kase blocked his arm with knife hand block and broke the guys elbow, then pulled the same arm accross and slammed his elbow into the attackers jaw. I don't think that mugger will be doing that again, he's lucky to still be alive, must have been in a lot of pain. Aikido techniques are very scientific, they use laws of physics etc , it's not some magic power

    The stuff the sensei is doing in the beginning anyway, I won't waste my time watching the entire vid as I have taken aikido years ago, is just routine warm ups where the attacker knows what is going to happen and falls on their own, not because what the sensei did.
    The other thing I was surprised by was when a threat happened at the dojo, two black guys came in, all the upper belts, brown and up took out some sort of self-defenses weapons that have nothing to do with aikido to protect the sensei. I found this curious and eventually left that martial art.
    Aikido demonstrations are in the WWE genre. Rehearsed and the combatants have rehearse their moves, falls, even flying through the air when the sensei grabs their bokken (long wooden stick) and catapults them. All rehearsed. The thing is, in a street fight your attackers is not going to do what you expect of him.

      Your comment about effecting the balance and structural coherence of an opponent through grips, pushes, and pulls is true for any grappling style... and of all the grappling styles that exist Aikido is the least effective one I know of and this video is a perfect example of why. For the vast majority of Aikido Dojos its ALWAYS a demo. Even in their so called randori the uke and nage are predetermined and its always the nage who is supposed to "win". The attacks are also predetermined most of tne time and even when uke is given the ability to choose from a list of attacks, the attacks are still quite limited and almost completely unrealistic for an unarmed person. If a student just says "fuck it" and shoots a double 99% of Aikido senseis would get put on their asses. As said, it's an artificial situation in the dojo but that is needed in order to explore the moves. Let's say Uke lets go of the attack/grip - then Tori attacks because contact has been broken...maybe Tori delivers an effective strike (psychologically Uke was on the retreat because he or she let go), or maybe Uke is totally un-phased by Tori's attack and continues attacking (i.e back to how it was from the start) - thus maybe Tori is then able to take Uke's balance from this new attack, and so on and so on etc. All I can say is - the sensei's I've known (not much, but trained with a bit) - I've not wanted to break the contact.

Guess what happened. I used " useless" aikido. This art is too subtle for many, even those who train for years just learn the body mechanics. The aiki has dissappeared in modern aikido, thanks to Honbu dojo. Now, aikido is just jujitsu with peaceful slogans.

    • @VenturaIT
      @VenturaIT 3 роки тому +4

      Wrong:
      You haven't been in a real fight if you say this. The video is a demonstration of theory and technique. In a real fight the first thing the opponent will do is grab your wrists so you that you don't punch or choke him. If he pulls back then any good aikido or judo or bjj can just body slam him down. Punches aren't really a threat to a jiujitsu fighter because we go for the body... aikido/bjj/judo/jjj are all the same thing just different focus points. If the opponent lets go of your wrists then you can easily strike him in many ways so it's to your advantage for him to let go of your wrists... if you are focusing on the fists and arms then you are missing the point. Take the body and the arms will follow... better yet: take the head and everything follows.

Why do they never deminstrate an attacker throwing quick punches and kicks and retracting thebpunchband kick, not one limp extension of an arm. He says he comes to grab with both hands. Sure he does that and stands there lime a dummy. His is totally absurd. If anyone who had the slightest knowledge of fighting the guy would be destroyed. If this is aikido, its a total waste of time for self defense. Maybe it has another value, but its not a martial art. It looks more like a cult. Come on, fighting and defending is more than being able to deal with a wrist grab with no further attacking.

    • @airon3348
      @airon3348 4 роки тому +6

      Your perception is correct. Aikido, as it is practiced in general today, let's say the most commonly known style coming from Aikikai, is completely useless as self defense and indeed if you try to defend yourself in a real situation using this model of technique, you will surely end up drowning in your own blood.
      It's totally a waste of time if practiced like you can appreciate in most videos: indeed. But you are wrong about something:
      The techniques _per se_ are not useful, the true effectiveness lies in the physical principles that govern them.
      These principles, trained at maximum speed, strength and resistance in incessant cross-training sparring are very useful, as they complement very well either with striking or grappling techniques. Very few people appreciate that, very few Aikidoka train really hard in cross technique. Since in general, the image that most Aikido practitioners give of the technique elicits laughter and ridicule from fighters and martial athletes.

He never explains that he had to train for many hours a day for decades to be able to relax enough for his energy to flow properly. This energy stuff has zero to do with aikido. It is internal skill that is very very hard to master. Well not really hard if you train correctly. This is a perfect example of the importance of a good teacher who doesn't waste time with bad advice. Some teachers have training methods that will take 30 years to get to where another teacher will be effective after 10 years. Everyone is different, so you have to evaluate your students. Some students are not worth training due to physical or mental deficiencies.

Also it can be applied with attackers grabbing the hand like school bullies or girls grabbed by a wannabe rapist hahaha. But if you think you can apply it with a trained or skilled fighter let alone a boxer then its pathetic and mostly it would be suicide against judo jujitsu as its too passive with no resisting opponent. The Mental aspect is also useless due to the non aggressive aspect and in a real fight its a factor to prevent panic..the meditations are not applicable as panic can occur. How about we put an accomplished aikidoka in a real fight and shown it here for all the BS to end. I used to believe in aikido as i once did it. It is limited.
