My son took my grandkids 3 young adults for a ride in mine. All fitted and survived although my grand daughter told me not to let her father drive it again.
The rear seats are NOT there for insurance purposes. Toyota chief designer Tetsuya Tada has literally said he gave the 86/BRZ rear seats simply so they can fold down and owners can carry an 4 extra tires to the track. That’s it…he said he didn’t want to create a pure two-seater like the Miata and S2000 because those require a trailer, or a friends van to carry extra tires and he said that’s a pain in the ass. So he made millimeter adjustments to the car specifically so an extra set of tires fit with the rear seats folded down. That is the only answer why it has rear seats.
To go further, insurance companies haven't been fooled by the 2+2 trick since the 1980s, if not earlier. Risk assessments today are based on crash statistics, demographic info, and other data points that are much more related to the potential insurance payout than an extra pair of seats that never get used. The fact that everyone still spreads this little bit of misinformation really highlights how little understood insurance is.
Yes. When I bought my first MX-5 eight years ago, my insurance premium was actually less than what I was paying a month before for my Mazda3! I just got a '22 BRZ yesterday because I need to haul around my grandkids sometimes, but I still wanted a sports car. We'll see what happens with the insurance, but I don't expect any surprises.
Screw toyota dealerships and their scam tactics, there are plenty of mods to make the front end look better than toyota and if you want the rear end to slide get a stiffer rear sway bar cheap and easy to intstall yourself.
Former RF owner now in a 2022 BRZ here. I loved the Mazda and I love this. Pick either and you can’t go wrong…but if you are over 182cm (6ft) you are actually going to fit in the BRZ. Actually had the BRZ (still completely stock) on track today and I spent 15 mins chasing two GR Yaris…and you know what? They were a tiny bit quicker on the straights but not very much. I was expecting them to run away and they didn’t.
@@Kart_18_Racer I was running at 8 to 9 tenths on a pretty flowing track, so I wasn’t troubling the brakes overly. I think they could become the weak link.

Mike really could sell anything. I don't even like Subaru like that (or smaller vehicles in general), but thanks to Ian and Mike, I could so very easily see myself driving that thing. I generally prefer Subarus, but the GR86 grill looks so much better. The grill looks too goofy. Still lean toward a Miata for a long term ownership option as my last manual transmission car.
I just got a '22 BRZ for $32,998. There were 3 new ones left in the country, local dealer was only willing to ship one of them here, and then it was bought the next morning by someone before they could send it here. At least a 5 month wait for a '24 but I needed a car now. I bit the bullet and paid more than MSRP for a 2 year old car, but only 5700 miles, mint condition, and I couldn't be happier.
Quick question, I'm seeing a few UA-cam videos by guys talking about silicone in the pick-up tube of the engine. Potentially could be an issue. Are they using silicone instead of a gasket? That would really piss me off as this same issue happened on my 1996 Corvette where the silicone dried up and started leaking.
Is very minor.... people who are tracking the cars are having any problems from it. Is like 1 out of 10,000. If you get this check after 5k km... I can't see any issue..
If you wanna buy a Cayman, there’s no substitutes if they’re charging half of the price of the authentic one lol Solutions: 1. Save money and get the Cayman. 2. Wait some time for getting a cheaper offer on this car.
Hi Mike, i mean it´s a good small relatively sporty 2 door coupe, not really up to date but the biggest issue is the price i think, it´s a little bit to high for that what Subaru offers to the customers.

Each to their own - “more fun to drive period” is not true. The BRZ is simply different and I personally enjoy the experience more than the Miata (same way you prefer the Miata). Gotta drive and decide individually
What should we review next?
Probably a Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid. 😁
718 Cayman! Base!
Might as well do WRX even though :/
Y'all should try the new Nissan Z, if you haven't already!

I got a 22 BRZ. Amazing car. The reason I chose BRZ over the GR86 was the 7K markup on all the 86’s in my area.
