Be sure to go check out Fireball Tool's video of cutting out the blade here!!! bit.ly/fireballwaterjet
10:20 is asmr
saw it first - amazing technology and use! :D
You can not escape. Everywhere you look I will be there.
😂
Get in the bin you disgrace.
😂😂😂
Someone just made an account to comment that
Fing hilarious
“I think I can bend it cold”
*me panicking imagining him snapping the guard like the blade*
Thought the same thing
patrick charette I think they snapped the blade just for the collaboration
Yeah, i was ready for disaster #2 lol
Nah, it's just a part, nothing to panic about, it was built once, it can be built again.
Alec, you think that tiny bit of water you get on your hands cooling the blade is bad? Lol try dishwashing at a busy restaurant 🤣😅😀
Water jet: cuts out sword-breaker in 30 seconds
Will: Am I a joke to you?
9minutes of cuts !
Will- "we're gonna make these swoopy doops even swoopier and doopier"
Me- "I love learning industry jargon!"
So if you have a dedicated place for the Fireball Tools equipment, can you call it a Square Space?
Parker's Square Space
*cries Audible
facepalm
Absolutely not! But if he were to fashion a Nordic gold lock for the workshop he should definitely call it Nord VPN!
@@omarimam5936 so you're saying the squares are not quite perfect?
Hopefully, in part 8 Alec will have resolved his existential crisis.
After all the filing and then breaking the blade I was sure Will woukd have cracked first, but I was wrong !
Naw, he's going to milk this until sword breaker episode 24 at least!
LOLLL
So what episode are we up to, and still no resolution?
@@fire304 Episode 15, and they still can't finish this thing yet! LOL
As an old Navy machinist, I can tell you, BLUE DYKEM is the ONLY way to go! (After all, our eyes are more sensitive in the blue end of the visible light spectrum, therefore, the scribe lines will be crisper and clearer in the Azure Dykem.)
Mix them and get a nice purple. It is softer for the eye without loosing the contrast of the blue.
A ganger?
Then how about Green Dykem? Because our eyes are the most sensitive to greens.
@@TomK2602 most of the luminosity we see comes from the green spectrum so it would have to be decently dark
not only do those ceramic belts cut Hard Steel but also cut Hard STEELE
why hasn't this got more likes lmao
Torpor - nice word.
The red Dykem is haunting you cuz you’ve never given it its own song.
he doesn't need to give it a song. only blue dykem is approved. LONG LIVE THE BLUE DYKEM!!
Josh Swickard - No Song, No Piece! Let the haunting continue. 👻
Red dykem is like Bigfoot.....
You can show people thousands of pictures, videos, encounter stories, dna and actual tissue and bone....it still is a myth , I don't except it's existence .
He hasn't sung the blue dykem song in forever though :(
Alec ........ um, ....... there are people you can talk to about that whole Dykum issue. They're there to help. They won't judge.
"These teeth are so fine I would trade them for mine"
Alec would look TERRIFYING with sword breaker teeth.
It would be pretty epic, though
Two takeaways from this segment:
1. I was wondering when Alec or Will were going to end up grinding themselves on the grinder.
2. The end of this episode felt like I was watching a fever dream
I get myself a bleeder every month or so. Always when I'm grinding tired...
Watching this alone in the dark and I'm pretty sure Alec just summoned a demon in here with that dykem chant
Benjamin Blair yep same here
Alone in the dark on 4 hrs of sleep... wasn't 100% sure which one of us was losing it.
Yo, same!!!
I took red dykem and blue dykem and mixed 50/50 and made purple you should try that👍
That's illegal
Heresy!
@@jackkuehneman9300 why is it illegal
OP is the kind of innovator that shop needs!
@@nickcavanaugh9586 Really dude?
New shirt design: "Swooptier and Dooptier!"
Alec: "We don't have enough content for this video!"
Will: "Just do that red Dykem bit at the end."
That’s not workshop poetry. That’s delirium. 😀.
It's not Delirium. It's Di'Giorno.
I thought delirium was a beer!
Hey Alec just a word from your friendly neighborhood machinist. I noticed that when flycutting the Damascus there are often sparks coming from the face mill, this indicates too high of a spindle speed which may cause added wear to the carbide inserts. Good luck and happy machining!
Speeds and feeds are a mystery to effing blacksmiths.
@@Dtmdeman and the max speeds that they teach with SF/Min always end up on the fast side
Like lighting dollar bills on fire.
Some of the sparks may be from the carbon coming to the surface. But I agree he may be turning a little fast and some coolant might help the cause.
@@patrickmcguire9663 I agree completely, no need to rush it, better to go a bit slow then frack it up.. When in doubt, lube it and slow down... LOL
hope your marriage/engagement holds forever man ive been watching you for so long now and i hope you have a amazing time that day and i wish you all the luck :D
Bro, that red Dykem segment had me suffocating... because I was laughing so hard 😂🤣
You guys need to give your video editor a raise if you havent already! He's killin it on these parts like 1:00-2:50
Phews DTS and later on in the video when Alec breaks 😂
Around 21 minutes
Yeah, that's some reaaaally good horror style editing there. Especially with the added sound design and vfx, absolutely brilliant :)
Of course
I love the some of the shots in the video. Water pouring into the bucket 12:58 and the close up of the grinding at 13:09. Detail shots like those are the best
R.I.P Grant Thomson, the King of Random. One of the many youtubers that inspired me to make stuff.
I'm very sad to hear this. Thanks for letting us know.
...who is Grant Thomson? If it's ok to ask.
LOSER it’s always ok to ask. He ran the King of Random UA-cam channel. Check it out, there’s some pretty cool stuff their. He even made his own foundry, and rocket fuel
loved the poetry, the explanation of the grinding, and the dykem skit :D great episode
Alec: *finds red dykem*
Everyone but Will: BLASPHEMY
The only dykem we use where I work is red....
I feel like I am now on a blacklist somewhere.
Eposide seven. Starting from scratch. I think this is going to be a long series.
I love all the work you do! You do something that is difficult and time consuming and make it into a very interesting watchable video! keep the good work up Alac steel
@@LibbieMarsch you alright?
Alac steel
lol
His guard is done
I really appreciate the bit about how and why Alec cut himself. By learning from his mistakes, we can avoid making them ourselves.
I was hoping that the montage at the end finished with ... PURPLE DYKEM!
Yup!
Blasphemy!
Yeah...I'm really sick of EVERYTHING red and blue..😂
@@tikkidaddy
Get some white out, a bbq, invite Lovell back with an arsenal o fire power, have yourself a great American afternoon!
I was waiting for some random dude to show up and say......sharpie!?!?!
Can we just appreciate how explained the whole grinding part without even cleaning the blood of getting a band aid?
Fireball tools is in Spokane? That’s awesome !
Was literally dying laughing over the Dykem bit
Waiting for a new video is like a fat kid waiting for a second slice of chocolate cake. Worth the wait all the time!
Videos like this are why I subscribe. Just Alec and what he’s explaining what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. Educational and entertaining. No Will, just Alec!
WATER JETS ARE AMAZING. It looked like it had no issue cutting through that steel. SO COOL.
Thank you for pronouncing Spokane correctly!!
Aaron Adams Woohoo Spokane! Represent!
I know right!
I love it here in Spokane
Oh man, now I have to stop calling it Spocaine. Humph. 😂
spookin
Colab with Demo Ranch! And settle the question.
“Can you blacksmith with bullets”
I would watch.
"Are blacksmiths bulletproof?"
I'd drive the 2 to 4 hours (depending on Glorious-People's-Republic-of-Austin traffic) to see that and bring BBQ...
This collab would be amazing 100% would watch !!
or, "Will a 50 bmg weld damascus?"
"Make the swoopy doops swoopier and doopier." It's the technical know-how that keeps me coming back.
Jason's machine is awesome!
This episode could be called: "Hellblade: Alec's Sacrifice"
Can someone get the editor a deadgum medal? Always love how everything pieces together with these vids. Great job!
*Dykem medal
I googled “deadgum” and now Google wants to sell me products related to tooth decay. “How do you know if your gums are infected?”
@@rasmis *Dagedgum - fixt
now that you have the design loaded, you should water jet a dozen blades!!! and if you need I'd take one.
I want to see alec Do a water jet channel knife build colab it would be way fun for a premade blank project anyone could buy and work into a working knife
Everything about Alec Steele makes me happy. Everything. Guns, flags, knives, swords, goofy hair, Will Stelter, moving to Montana, oh, yeah, blacksmithing, making mistakes, his video on "patience", EVERYTHING... and then he recommended " The 5 Love Languages" book, a brilliant choice! Thank you, ya big doofus!
Good to see the comedy in this episode, best part of this channel is not only does Alec and Will do amazing work but they have fun doing it and that's just awesome!
Amazing drone shot. Thats how a drone needs to be used. ALEC! Take note of the possibilities of a drone in a shop!
Need a darn good pilot to mange that kind of shot.
@@koloth5139 you need a cinewhoop for it
Maybe a spark in tripod mode and reverse in editing.
Power of water to cut so precisely is mind blowing to me
Michael Mancino its not just water, it’s mixed with grit to help cut
@@kaleb2478 still hella impressive to me
Waterjet Channel, Thank me later.
Nobody gonna talk about the evo in the fireball shop, also I appreciate you pronouncing Spokane right
Long time fan.. Love the rock, music. Love the extra lunacy. Congrats. On the engagement.
Best part is you can watch this twice, Alec's video and Fireball Tool's.
I remember when alec used to do everything himself now he makes guest appearances in his own shop...
9:49 thanks Jason. We viewers are great. You're looking pretty dapper yourself my man
Snapping that blade was the best thing you could’ve done for the channel I think everyone loves the longer videos
Next project: Zulu Iklwa (EE-kl-wah)
Vicious short-sword on a short staff used to eviscerate an enemy before the body hits the ground.
Do it in Steele brand Damascus!
Do eet! Do eet Naaough!
that is one on my list as well, but total beginner and I still suck at forging, thankfully it does not have a socket as have not made a good one yet, more practice and more practice
@@mondriaa hope to see the build you make here. Good luck!
There has got to be a lot of newer subscribers who are VERY confused as to what the hell was going on with the Dykem bit... hahah
Talking about quilions while holding the guard because he is still haunted by the last blade snapping. LOVE your work guys! Keep it up please
Will is THEE most swoopdiest fella, complimenting the doopdiest English bloke in Montana. Keep on...
It's good that you *were* wearing the rubber gloves though, because the cloth ones may be more durable but if that belt catches it and pulls you in.. You may lose that finger instead of grazing it
Alec is having a nightmare. “Red Dykem Hell” LOL!
I love the Wyoming flag!! Big time fan from Wyoming here!! Your channel is why I became so interested in blacksmithing. Keep up the amazing work fellas!!
I'm so very glad I didn't miss this episode. This was a treat from your channel. Thanks for the laughs.
Box opens, monster hand reaches out from within the box and drags a visibly surprised Alec into the box dimension.
Monster hand then hands Will the package item, then makes "tip the server" hand motion.
Alec walks into room from side door, everyone looks surprised, points at box.
Monster hand seems surprised, checks within box for Alec, pulls up second Alec.
But is one red, & the other blue...?
"Red Dykem, Blue Dykem" thus ever shall the summoning be!
Perhaps.
Perhaps this is how that comes about.
Only the shipping box knows.
You guys should weld the broken blade back together and etch it anyway, just for fun!
Ben larimer nah. That would leave a really ugly gray streak that ruins the pattern
Can't: it's in Imladris now. 'S why Alec's making all these rings....
@@MarkhamShawPyle Is he setting up to switch Sauron? lol
@@FlinnGaidin Keep an Eye on him.
That water jet is an incredible piece of equipment
I really like the fact that you are using more rock music in your videos. It is a nice change of pace. I also liked the bit at the end of the video with the Dykem. I thought that was hilarious!
Man, the level of acting in this episode is over 9,000!!! Awesome, Alec! I hope you did get rid of that red layout fluid..... But maybe you should watch your back. It could be anywhere!!
I was laughing so hard at the end. Gotta get the blue back!
Jason: Opens the packet up nice and neatly
Alec: Just throw everything out and take the sword
That dykem bit was easily the best thing I have watched in a while!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Welp that ending is going to give me nightmares about the color of things. Great video. Keep it up.
new t-shirt: Making all things swoopdier and doopdier since 2019.
The ending of this video was fantastic!!!
Quoth the raven: “Red Dychem”....
Hilarious. Nice touch.
Surface grinder with a magnetic sine plate will grind a distal taper very easily and accurately. You don't need a new automatic (although they're very nice when setup properly), but a good old Brown and Sharpe won't break the bank. Just trying to spend some of your money 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for addressing the water jet taper, looks like he did a good job for you. PS... Blue is better lol
Love the dykem part, happy you guys are having fun even though you had to restart from scratch!
Best video in a long time! Lots of progress on your project, guest stars, fun gags, solid music, and top-notch editing... keep it up gang
I love how well you can tell how well thought out and hard worked the hand forged and cut blade is compared to the water cut blade, still amazing work but I sure do love the hand made work!!
Hey, Alec!
What about a project where you try to use your welds as part of the damascus look? Maybe you include a couple really deep welds with multiple passes so that when you finish forging out the material that inclusion adds a little something else? Or at the very least, a test piece. I'm very curious as to how much the welds change the look
That would be a dope piece I think! Plese Alec, make one and show it to us.
"Gonna make these swoop-dee-doops a little bit swooptier and dooptier." Holy crap you've spent way too much time around Alec!
Great video Alec and crew! That Dykem thing was fantastic. Congrats on the engagement Alec!
Will is slowly adapting his language to Alec Steele-ian and Alec's actions are gaining hints of Will-ian always cool to see 2 friends become 1 extension of another
Saw Will working with Blue Dykem then saw Alec using red and thought "this is gonna end badly"
HAHAHA Love that ending. That's right, break the paradigm to little pieces and reforge it into a stranger and more complex experience. Remember we are the medium and the message. Seriously ,aside, did the warrior poet guys leave some 'shrooms behind... Remember to hydrate.
I was glad to see that I'm not the only one who slowly descends into madness when having a long proyect :)
Uses CNC to get blade shape.
Doesn't use bridge port for stock removal.
Yeah, I was wondering about that. Fly cut it down to near size, then grind the finish.
It’s easier to grind the distal taper in I think?
You keep practicing your acting Alec, you might just become an actor someday... comedy thrillers are up and coming
Alex, the notches need to be rounded. The v-shape allows tensile force to be concentrated on a single point, which is why the first blade snapped there. A circular shaped hole allows this tensile force to be spread out and keep the material from shearing apart. This is why a bag of chips has v-shaped perforations on the edge, to help you shear apart the bag material.
Interestingly, the Titanic had v-shaped expansion joints which were suspected to have made her less able to handle the tensile stresses of her sinking, and the later built Brittanic had circular tips to the expansion joints in an effort to make her hard to break up.
Been a fan for a long time. You have made great videos showing off your blacksmithing and doing so in educational yet visually pleasing way. I gotta say though, I love seeing you fearlessly try new video techniques and other visual treats. Keep it up!
I thought Will himself was the Sword Breaker ha ha! Jkg but at least we got a cool Fireball Tool Video out of it too
But can it attach to my rifle, tho? 🤣🤣🤣
alec_sanity.exe has stopped and is not responding. Would you like to report this issue?
Wow. I need a Fireball Fun Factory in my life.
This is the best video so they have ever made with cute little stuff. I love the energy about all of it.
Attack of the Red Dykem!!!
After the katana, we need an odachi.
Fight Fly Crow
One European sword is enough
@Fight Fly Crow oh boy, you have no clue about japanese sword, don't you? There are several different forms and varieties in japanese swords... not only catana formed. Several of them are the same as the chinese because they shared / looted them and developed them further. Some had japanese origin and where left behind in china, some where brought back home from china.
@Fight Fly Crow I'm no japanese sword nerd god, so ditch it. I only want to be historically accurate. Maybe this is to high for you and your weebhate complex? How is it up there on the high horse?
Btw: nothing of your comment indicated that you were talking about recent history. And just a tip: in recent history, japanese use guns...
OKAY, the dicam blue red thing was hilarious, please do more things like that. When you kept finding them all around you.. I was dying. More of that
This turned into a fever dream by the end.
I loved it.
19:25 anyone else think of the scene in Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory? The one where they're on the boat 😂
During the ending I kept wondering how much further you were going to take the bit.... all the way that's how much further lol
Man, your channel keeps getting better and better. Loved the colab with Warrior Poet and the red dykem sequence here.
Alec you mentioned your hands. Something that rockclimbers use that i love here in Colorado is 'Badger balm'. Works great for chapped hands, and torn up hands.
Sword breaker breaker breaking out another sword breaker
Hey Alec, where's your amazon affiliate link for blue dykem? 😂
The red dykem blue dykem edit was fantastic. Great job guys love seeing all your hard work. From your neighbor in Idaho.
DYKEM RED NIGHTMARE montage had me crying!
Soo uh what’s the dealio with that damascus 80% build? Asking for a friend.....I am that friend.
