What an absolute thing of beauty. As a carpenter I really respect your use of woodworking tools while making and fitting the handle. So many blacksmiths just jump on the belt sander. I know we talked about this before, well I'm still waiting for you to make an adjustable block plane start to finish. Showcase your myriad talents and skills. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for letting us see.
Thank you! I have just recently started to get aquatinted with the world of wooden planes. Quite fascinating and not very complicated when you know how they work. I would love to make one or two some day!
You call it a splitting chisel, I call it art. People are fortunate when they find their true calling in life, sir, I believe you have found yours. Beautiful work, and thank you for sharing this with us.
Between plowing my driveway and cooking Thanksgiving dinner I've watched this video twice, twice yesterday. Trying to decide what I enjoy more the hefty chuff chuff chuff of the air hammer or the clack clack clack of the spring hammer. In America today most of us are giving thanks for who we have and what we have in our lives, and eating to much. I have much to be thankful for and I include all the artisan's who practice their craft and those who post on YT. You bring such wonder and knowledge to people of a vastly veryed backgrounds and this is something to be Thankful for. Your splitting hammer is truly a work of art and to use it in work is to honor the history and craftsman of the past. To you and yours a warm and healthy winter season.
I really appreciate how you make all your tools work for you. You make it look effortless in everything you do. I know it's not effortless but because you know your trade and your tools so well, you make it all look so easy. You are a true craftsman.
Having watched your channel for some years, I believe you're one of my favorites. You have an unmatched aesthetic throughout the entire forging process, from beginning with raw stock to the finished item. Your videos are filmed and edited well, and you've gotten better over time, I especially enjoy the fun little editing tricks you do from time to time. Keep up the good work sir
Truely, you are always an inspiration, a blacksmith I'd like to end up to be one day. Keep the good work. And don't be to humble, you deserve the praise !
A perfect primer for power hammer work! Very well done. The best example of making an eye, drifting, and shaping on a power hammer I’ve seen. The new Anyang has revolutionized my own work. Thank you Torbjorn for all your help!
Oh my I do love the sound of a sharp file cutting ! You know it’s working just by the sound ! Another perfect tool . The size the shape the handle everything comes together like a fine ballet 🩰! What a Blacksmith you are !
Awesome, truly a blacksmith's blacksmith. I think even the veterans can look to you for inspiration, and reset their fundamentals. Make every lick count, firm and precise, plan ahead. Like with the cold punching so you can find your place when the works hot, Happy forging.
Each video that I watch of yours further inspires me to pursue this craft. Thank you for your artistry and for maintaining the standard of workmanship that you do.
I have watched this a few times. This time I noticed the tip you put on the chisel and I appreciate the close up you gave us of your finishing of the tip
A bit late getting to this one....wonderfull tool, great to watch you bring it into existence. I would also like to thank you for treating your wood planes with respect......I think it's because I was taught by my father to always rest a plane on its side, or face corporal punishment that I still get triggered when I see it done other ways....not many people do.
I very much enjoy your gardening and other outside videos, but I do have to say it is nice to watch you build something again! Your attention to detail and final form is enviable and drives me to do better in my own shop! Thank you Thunder Bear 🙂
Big T brother smithy your work is perfection ! I hope all your subs know how your the best on UA-cam! Nothing left to chance all done too perfect! And from my Family to yours may your thanksgiving be full of family friends and food !!! God bless everyone this holiday season !
Always a pleasure to see your videos, the quality and dedication with which you work, makes me always enjoy, very good work, greetings from Argentina!!!
I just love the way you work. I know there might be several takes that are discarded and stuff sometimes ends up in the bin, but your whole ethos is really good and the tools and other things you make are something to be very proud of.
Finally a real craftsman that knows a file is not a saw, that planes are laid on the side not the sole and how to protect the anvil face from damage! Sir you are awesome!
Such precision! Much more so than many of the videos that I've seen... Well done! You seem to have a real grasp of the malleability of the metal you're working with!
I find your creations a true work of art. I admire your work and one day I hope to find someone with your knowledge willing to teach me these techniques Best wishes
Excellent slitting tool. It looks like jewelry. I don’t like the diamond cutting wheels due to the very nasty micro slivers that it creates. They get into my gloves and clothing and I end up digging these tiny slivers out of my hands quite a bit. I’d hate to think how it would feel if one hit passed my eye protection and imbedded into my eye.
I’m starting to run out of words to describe your work and videos ! I can only call them exquisite so many times before it becomes out dated and i can”t find a word that supersedes it ! Thank you !
A very nice piece of work done there Torbjorn, there’s many a professional (and non professional) people who would love to have a tool like this in their collection. Very nice work there....Phil
I have seen you working with a Draw-Knife a couple of times. A 'Shaving Horse' might be a good soulution for work with this great tool. You can clamp and unclamp the workpiece with only one move. And as harder you are pulling as stronger you clamp the wood. And for a gifted worker like you it should be easy to build. ;-)
Exquisite piece of art in tool form. 👍 Who say tools cant be sexy ? Lolololol 😆😂🤣 After watching 2 times and reading the comments... I think it's safe to say your tools are like the Bentley of the tools in the forged tool sector. Smooth elegant efficient with such attention to detail. See that's exactly what makes them stand out 🙏 be blessed sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
@@torbjornahman , if I may ask sir, what type of anvil stand do you use? If you could have any stand you wanted what would it be,? Now that I've got a beginner anvil (250lbs-113.6kilo Vulcan) I need to make a stand. I can do the bound and bolted 4x4 in oak, pine, or pressure treated. I can do steel tripod with filled legs. I can do 25mm plate on top of 337.5mm dia 9mm wall pipe filled w oil sand on 25mm base or sank up to 1.5 meters in the ground - or up to 500mm pipe oil sand filled...or even concrete I suppose. All of these are materials on hand. Just would like to know what you would do please?
I just have 2x6", or so, wood bundled up as a stand. If you have a perfect spot and never want to move it, sinking a wooden stand into the ground would be pretty good I think. For me I think a three-legged steel stand filled with sand would be good. I want to be able to move it from time to time. Mass is good, so a heavy stand is great I guess. I don't know about concrete, I think you should stay away from that.
What kind of wood did you use to make the handle?
Oh, that's just pine! A handle on a top tool like this doesn't need to be fancy. Sooner or later it will break and should be easy to replace.
@@torbjornahman If I were to make say, an axe or a hammer. Do you think birch wood would work to use as a handle?
I think it would. Here we often use ash or beech for handles.
@@dankuspanku4650 Querido amigo. não me referi ao cabo da ferramenta, e sim ao desejo de ver você fazer um martelo para carpinteiro.

Oh, thanks!!!
He’s good, his craftsmanship is second to none.
Your videos are so peaceful to watch .just watching you helps me to relax when I'm in my shed .
It is a great pleasure to observe the work of a professional. Blacksmith + joiner - master = real man!
Excelllllllllent photography.
Particularly the Love symbol in Hot Iron was mind-blowing

Majestic as always. A joy to watch..You can just tell the enjoyment you are getting from making such tooling. Top marks as usual Mr T. Well done....

You have some serious skill man... don't stop!
It never ceases to amaze me how you finesse the metal with such, often brutal metal forming techniques. You Sir are a Master Craftsman
Torbjörn, thank you so much!! Always a joy and pleasure to watch your artistry - in metal, wood and film.
Accuracy and timing is undeniably excellent
Hey Torb, I'm amazed at the accuracy of the way you work, very precise and symmetrical

Your artistry, as usual, is simply amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Also, your precision with a power hammer is... superlative.

Would you ever consider selling finished hand tools?
I rather focus on new video project instead of making things for sale.
Very reasonable! Thanks for your response!
