Yes, there's no instrument, and what he was doing the beatboxer was what we call a NoMonica . They consider themselves a country acapella group, but they sing any type of song from country to rap to opera❤😊

"What have we found?" Only the best a cappella group out there. Five supremely talented individuals who blend perfectly. And, you are correct, there are no instruments. They have a very deep and varied catalog. Everything from country to R&B to pop to sacred to opera (from the 2 tenors). Really, you could go anywhere next and not go wrong. But I would recommend their recent cover of Stand By Me or their original Playing With Fire. Enjoy the Home Free party!

Home Free is incredible. Everything they do is great. And although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others.
Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist.
Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible.
Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes.
Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul.
Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound.
There is no permanent lead singer in Home Free. They look at every song whose voice suits it best, the best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). ..
This is one of the many covers they do in addition to various originals, and each one is just amazing.
Take the time to discover Home Free because it will be a great tour. For me they are number 1 A-Cappella group

You have just been introduced to the best a cappella group out there. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there with a 5 octave range & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. Drummers have often commented on how realistic his drum sounds are. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.
Some of my favorites are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "In The Blood", "Ring Of Fire", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "How Great Thou Art", "Elvira", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Brother In Arms", "One Man Band", "Listen To The Music", "Sea Shanty Medley", Skull & Bones" etc.

Great Reaction!! Welcome to Home Free rabbit hole.
The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp
They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular.
They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do.
There is no Lead singer in the group. They each ( except Adam )sing the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance.A lot of time they each have a part in the song.
Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys.
Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota.
Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) Very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis,Minnesota
Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland,Texas
Austin Brown:High Tenor ( Long wavy hair )Voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. He will be leaving the group in the fall.
Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass Deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County,Alabama.Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016)
They have collaborated with many singers and legends
    Don McLean:American Pie
    Oak Ridge Boys:Elvira
Kenny Rodgers:Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message)
    Billy Gilman:One Voice
    Alabama:Christmas In Dixie
Mark Wills:Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end )
Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band:God Bless The USA
    Any many many more.
They have 3 amazing songwriters in the group Tim,Austin and Chance so they have a very large playlist of covers and original songs
End of the Road (Boyz 2 Men cover )
    When A Loves A Woman
Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony masterpiece )
    Unchained Melody
    Butts Medley/ Remix
    Listen To The Music
    Can’t Outrun You
    Brothers In Arms
Stargazer Trilogy( All Originals written by Austin)
    Give Me A Sign ( Chapter 1)
    Stargazer Lilies( Chapter 2)
    MR ( mister) (Chapter 3)
Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft new video game Skull And Bones)
Might As Well Be Me ( Original)
    Playing With Fire ( Original)
    Remember My Name (Original)
    Oh Pretty Woman
    Life Is A Highway
    Stand By Me
    Cruise
    I Want Crazy
    Colder Weather
Ring Of Fire ( releasing on Monday)
Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES )
There's not a song that you pick from their 200+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet.
They are just funny, down to earth, humble nice guys. They are the best A Cappella group there is
Sorry for the long read 🍟😊

You really need to get your start date RIGHT they started in 2000 NOT 2001 last year 2023 was 23 yrs go listen to the video from Chris Rupp doing a video of When Home Fries Started. You think he would know since He Started the group .

@@Cat-fi4ie I think you need to get your facts straight before commenting In January of 2001, 3 friends from High School got together to form a new a cappella group that they hoped would one day change music for all time.
The History of Home Free - Episode 1 (ft Adam, Chris and Matt)
or maybe this Home Free was originally formed in January 2001 by Chris Rupp, Adam Rupp and Matt Atwood[1] in Mankato, Minnesota, when some of its members were still in their teens.[5] The five founding members were brothers Chris and Adam Rupp, Matt Atwood, Darren Scruggs, and Dan Lemke. They took their name from a boat owned by Atwood's grandfather who helped support the group financially in their early years.[6] The group began as a hobby for the singers, but they gradually grew in experience and popularity. By 2007 they had enough of a following to pursue music full-time. During this period, the Rupp brothers and Atwood formed the core of the group, with Atwood singing lead tenor. Other members of the group came and went. Current member Rob Lundquist, another Minnesotan, joined in 2008.[7]

You got it! 5 individuals that as a unit, in spite of the fact that each one is a master musician, are truly more than the sum of the parts.
Home Free has nearly 190 official videos, they will have a new Ring of Fire one on YT on Monday. Pick any genre, they probably have at least one song from it - except hard metal (and the opera song is only 2 of the 5). Th harmonies are impressive, the arrangements will occasionally stop you in your tracks, the voices are heavenly. Enjoy this dep and wide rabbit hole you have fallen into. We will enjoy watching you discover them.

Home Free is an amazing group. They’re all a cappella so no instruments. They have an amazing beatboxer who was doing drums, harmonica and other sounds. Chance, back left, was doing the mouth harp sound (like a didgeridoo). Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low and then sing high as well. All talented men. Great songs. They sing covers but also write and sing their own songs. Chance just wrote a new sea shanty called Skull and Bones for Ubisoft, the game maker. It’s great. Check it out! Tim goes really low in it. 😄😃😍

And...another one falls down the rabbit hole. You are so doomed. We’ll save you a chair.
You’re about to be buried in Home Fries. Brace yourself.
Home Free is the only country a capella group out there, but they can - and do - sing every genre. And they have no lead singer. Every one of these men can take the lead, and they pick the lead for each song by who does it the most justice. During quarantine, they kept all us Home Fries sane by dropping new videos every couple of weeks while they were scattered across the country. God bless ‘em.
All the men can beat box, but Adam is in a league of his own. He’s a world-class vocal percussionist and there’re good reasons he’s called a “Freak of Nature” and “the man who swallowed a drum kit.” For more of Adam’s incredible beat boxing, check out Sea Shanty medley (the man makes castanets, for Pete’s sake), his no-monica solo on Working For A Living and Ain’t Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up (that video is on Facebook), Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (sleigh bells? seriously?) or his drum solos.
For more of Tim’s seismic basso profundo, listen to Brothers In Arms, Misty Mountains (his collaboration with Peter Hollens), Folsom Prison Blues, or Ring Of Fire (the Sing Off version). This man’s range is incredible. You won’t want to miss his 5-octave run in 5 seconds in “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
For Chance’s smooth baritone/bass, check out Skull & Bones, Down to the Honky Tonk, Brothers In Arms, Cover Me Up, I Can’t Outrun You, and Folsom Prison Blues. (Awesome.. basso profundo and a baritone/bass in the same group.) FYI, Chance is singing (throat singing) the jaw harp sounds - without the jaw harp - in Man Of Constant Sorrow.
For Rob’s soulful tenor, check out End of the Road, Blue Ain’t Your Color, or Bless The Broken Road. (Blue-eyed soul is in good hands with The Beard.) One Home Fry has described him as the vocal equivalent of a Swiss Army knife because of his versatility. Just wait until you hear him whistle!
For Austin’s soaring tenor, check out Crazy, Moonshine, When A Man Loves a Woman, or Bring Him Home. (But bolt down your chair ‘cause he’ll sing you right out of it.)
For their humor, check out Butts Remix, Working For A Living, Life Is A Highway, Between A Rock And A Heartache, Make You Feel My Love, Brother, and Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget (Tim wrote the worst country song he could think of, and it remains one of their most requested.) A word about “Brother” - if you want to hear the lyrics, you’re going to have to listen with your eyes closed, ‘cause otherwise you’ll never get past the humor of the video to actually hear what they’re singing.
For their amazing arrangement skills, check out Do You Hear What I Hear. (Adam’s arrangement. Nothing else like it.)
For their tight harmonies, check out Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art, Brothers In Arms, or Auld Lang Syne.
For their mashups, check out Thinking Out Loud/Let’s Get It On, Fishing in the Dark/Boondocks, Country Fried Pop, or Woman, Amen/Female.
The Home Free men are masters of collaborations. They put the spotlight on their collaborator, supporting them with wonderful vocals and amazing harmonies. Check out God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood, American Pie with Don McLean, Elvira with The Oak Ridge Boys, Children Go Where I Send Thee with the late Kenny Rogers, Don’t Laugh At Me with Mark Wills, Christmas In Dixie with Alabama, Delta Dawn with Brooke Eden, or Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For with Peter Hollens.
Get at least five videos under your belt and then listen to Mayday - the official video. After Mayday, you’ll be ready for Tim and Austin doing My Maria or Tim’s mashup of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay.
Then, when you come up for air, check out Rob’s and Austin’s “Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera.” You’ll need smelling salts after that one.
Don’t miss their official videos. The Home Free men will often do a straight, gorgeous vocal performance, but they’ll add elements of humor to the video that will leave you chuckling or even laughing out loud. (Folsom Prison Blues, Between A Rock And A Heartache, Make You Feel My Love, Working For A Living, Brother, Life Is A Highway).
And God help you when you get hit with the Home Free Curse. They’ll cover a song you absolutely cannot stand and make you like it against your will. I’d been hit by the curse four times before I gave up and quit counting. I’m not the only victim of the Home Free Curse, either.
Although their covers are amazing, don’t miss their original compositions. They range from the the poignant (So Long Dixie) to the patriotic (Land Of the Free). These include Dive Bar Saints (one of my favorites), Road Sweet Road, Catch Me If You Can, Give Me A Sign, Lonely Girl’s World, The Stargazer Trilogy, Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget, Love Me Like That, Skull And Bones, and many, many more.
Their synergy is phenomenal. Each is an artist in his own right, but man - when they sing together, magic happens. Wicked talent polished by decades of hard work. (Unchained Melody, Castle On The Hill, Seven Bridges Road, Only In America) To paraphrase another Home Fry, “They don’t just own a cover, they upgrade it.”
You are doomed, Home Fry. Bring ketchup.

New subscriber. Great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas that excel in all music genres. They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, American Pie featuring Don McLean, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, Dive Bar Saints, The Driver, Crazy and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone and Ray Stevens' Mississippi Squirrel Revival. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. They have recently released several new songs that you will want to check out. Unchained Melody, Listen to the Music, Brother and Stargazer Lilies trilogy: Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lilies and Mr. ...Their latest releases are Might As Well Be Me, Playing With Fire, Remember My Name, Oh, Pretty Woman, Cruise, Stand By Me, Colder Weather and Life is a Highway. To switch it up..try Two Country Singers try singing Opera. Adam Chance just wrote the theme song to Ubisoft's new Pirate themed video game, Skull and Bones and Home Free performs it. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!

The twangy mouth harp sound you hear at the beginning and end (and throughout the song) is their baritone Adam Chance (Chance) the last guy shown in the video.
They can all beatbox to a certain extent but Adam Rupp is their epic main beatboxer. If there's any physical instruments used you'll see them. It's very rare that they use them though. Mostly they're used in collaboration with other non-acapella singers. I can only think of 2 or 3 songs where it's just the guys and they use instruments.

    Welcome to the rabbit hole.
If you are asking, "Who are these guys?", a great video to react to is their cover of the 1980's Huey Lewis hit "Workin' For A Livin'". The video introduces all of them by name at the beginning. It's also a totally different type of song and video that shows another side of them both musically and personality-wise. It has an even more amazing "nomonica" solo from Adam Rupp (the beatboxer).
Of course, there's all sorts of stuff that other will recommend as well. One sign of a talented group is that almost every commenter will recommend a different song to check out.

Home Free decribes itself as a country acapella band, but they do many other things as well. You cannot pin them down to one genre. There is no lead singer. They either take different verses as they did here or pick the member whose voice best fits the song. So here are the guys and a recommendation that features each of them as the lead:
    Front row left to right:
Rob Lundquist - lead tenor - smooth voice with a lot of soul - End of the Road
Austin Brown = high tenor - incredibly strong and flexible voice - When a Man Loves a Woman
Tim Foust = Bass = five octave range and "plays" the bass guitar - Ring of Fire (new version being released next week)
    Back row left to right:
Adam Chance (aka Chance) - rich baritone w/ 3 octave range - Cover me Up
Adam Rupp - beatboxer extraordinaire - beat box solo, Listen to the Music

Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It runs very deep. These guys are so extremely talented. Adam the Beat Boxer is insane, He is a championship beat boxer. They each have unique voices that blend so well together. Keep listening to Home Free you will be glad you did. Love your reaction! I subscribed! ♥

The drums, harmonica, and various other sounds come from the beatboxer, Adam Rupp.
The mouth organ/jew harp/jaw harp sound is created by Adam Chance, in the back with the orangish colored hat. He uses throat singing techniques and tongue movements to create the 'twangy' sounds.
All the guys can beatbox at least a little.

Welcome to the family of Home Fries 🍟 the Home Free fans. Unfortunately they just announced that the first man you saw singing Austin Brown tenor 1 will be leaving the group. He wants to spend more time at home and start a family. Home Free tours a lot. But as of right now. Home Free is
    Austin Brown tenor 1
    Rob Lundquist tenor 2
    Adam Chance Baritone
    Tim Foust Bass
    Adam Rupp Beatboxer

Warning: Home Free is highly addictive. They're all vocal chameleons, 3 of them are song writers so there are lots of originals as well as covers. They sing (and write) in almost every genre and they each have channel(s) of their own. This song was originally published in 1913 and later covered by Bob Dylan & Joan Baez among others.

Welcome to the homefree rabbit whole. If you like this video remember that all the instruments you think you hear are all done by beatboxer. Also this very rarely use instruments. Welcome the first homefree video for most homefries and homefries is worldwide what us homefree fans are called and welcome to Adam's No-Monica
If you some good things to watch go check out Adam Rupp's Drum Solo he does at homefree concerts. Fans have taken videos now and over the years at their shows that are on youtube
which a homefree concert is a party not a concert and their covers are upgrades.

Fun to watch a reactor discovering something so out of their wheelhouse.⬅
Note that there were two beatboxers here. Adam Rupp ("Adam") is their main beatboxer, and he was doing percussion and the "no-monica". Adam Chance ("Chance") typically sings, but here he was doing the simulated jaw harp throughout. (You heard it somehow as Gregorian Chant, other reactors think it is maybe a digeridoo.)⬅
My other favorite song of theirs is a collaboration they did two years ago on the 50th anniversary of _American Pie,_ with its original artist, Don Mclean.

The initial sound is a beatbox version of a "jaw harp" and when I first heard it I thought diggerridoo. It was Adam Chance making that noise, not the primary beat boxer Adam Rupp who you saw in the white tank top. He plays the NO monica. I think he's done video tutorials on how to do it.

@GOnABeat, new Sub - here for your journey with #HomeFree! This was a great first reaction!! I've been following them since The Sing Off when they won season 4, have seen them in concert twice here in Canada, and can guarantee they will have you smiling, laughing and sometimes crying. They call themselves a Vocal Band, and as you've already seen by your first reaction, they somehow manage to make a cappella sound rich and full of "instruments." Some favourite upgrades to suggest are:
I Can't Outrun You - video concept and direction by Chance and pure 5-part harmony
Take Me Home Country Roads - a great example of a Home Free upgrade
One Man Band - love when the guys share the lead
Stand By Me - a classic that truly is a masterclass in arranging, harmonies, layering and dynmaics
Castle On the Hill - love the song, the musicality and the video
Plus, of course, every other song suggested by my fellow Home Fries - you really can't go wrong! Enjoy and we will be here for it!

And most everyone loves their cover of End of the Road by Boyz to Men. They have hundreds of covers snd original music. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Those who fall in never want to get out. Oh and check out their music video of an original called Skull and Bones. And do their live version of Sea Shantys. They sound fantastic live!!

Great Comments! Welcome to my favorite, most prolific, most diverse, a.cappella band! Home Free has engaged my full attention and admiration for over a decade -- ever since watching them win the Sing Off TV competition in 2013. @lynnramsay8821 has provided all the data you'll need to get a complete overview of who they are and what they do! You can't pick a loser from their huge catalog of wonders, so my advice is to follow the suggestions given by the Home Fries (fans!) in the other comments. Enjoy your journey!
