  • Part 4 in the 'Transformation of Little Wing' series brings you the long awaited launch of Little Wing and we take her sailing for the first time. As a special little extra we also give you a quick glimpse inside the boat which some of you have asked for in the comments of the previous videos.
This is our last video in the Little Wing video series as it concludes the major repairs on the boat though there are still a few jobs left to do before she can set sail on any big adventures. If you are keen to keep following her journey, make sure to subscribe to our son's UA-cam channel ‪@cameronwasthere‬ where he will share his adventures aboard Little Wing.

    About us:
We've been 'Living the Dream' aboard our second boat, an Ocean 80, which we've rebuilt for 3.5 years and launched at the end of 2018. The idea was to sail around the South Pacific looking for incredible spots to surf, kitesurf and explore!
Due to the pandemic it didn't quite pan out the way we thought but we were grateful and fortunate enough to have NZ and Fiji open to us at that stage when this footage was filmed. With most of the world 'back to normal' we can't wait to explore more of this beautiful part of the world!
Thanks for joining us on our adventure!

Having lived in the Virgin Islands for 20+ years, I was much inspired by the designs of Dick Newick and good friend Roger Hatfield. Have sailed on quite a few and eventually decided to build a Lock Crowther Twiggy Mk IIB up in the hills of Tortola. Couldn't do that with Roger or Dick's designs, cos "Wingover" was built in separate units and assembled on the beach. (Now that Launch Party was a PARTY !!)
She took me 4 years to build, she sailed beautifully and was very easy on the eye, with wingmast, mast lowering struts, water ballasting, spade rudder assy., whipstaff steering, etc.
I sold her some time ago and since she like us, has sailed to Europe and completed many of the intensely gruelling Round Britain and Ireland Race, winning her class in one.
She was last seen in Isle de Oleron (near La Rochelle) in France.
Roger Hatfield was incredibly helpful and I do miss that 'island style' way of life.
Fair winds and broad reaches to y'all !
    Bill

Dick Newick showed his genius with this pretty little thing. Natural aero and hydro dynamics like this appearing in an era of hard sharp flat surfaces is very soothing to the eyes. Thank you guys, a true restoration in many ways.

One of the best trimaran designs ever. love newick's simplicity and sweet lines. She moves through the water so unruffled. Great job on the paint and restoration. I own a 30 foot condor trimaran that is trailerable. But what a job to take her apart and put her together. Wishing you all the best from us Yanks.

She loved so graceful sailing back to the mooring. So nice she'll be in the same location of Camara. Your son is so fortune to be sailing her on future episodes. Thanks for sharing this refit and pray for all safe passages afloat.

Many thanks for the finale in the "Little Wing" restoration saga. She is such an attractive trimaran. I'm sure she will provide your Son and his chosen crew mate with endless enjoyment. Also, congratulations on the excellent camera footage from the chase-dinghy, clearly showing Lttle Wing "leaning" on her starboard out-rigger whilst the port out-rigger was fully clear of the water. I will now subscribe to Camerons channel for more updates on the newly restored Little Wing.
Very much looking forward to the upcoming "Big adventure" on board S/Y Camara.

Thank you ☺️ our son is finishing off some jobs on the inside and he’s earning money so he can finish changing the standing rigging and he’s got a few more of the running rigging to replace as well along with a few other upgrades. The plan is that she will sail in tandem with our boat up to the islands but realistically it won’t be this year unless he wins lotto, so he’s aiming for next year 😉

So nice to see Little Wing afloat and sailing again, and with my solid dodger still there! Make sure the top of the rudder cassette is well sealed with goop, it was always prone to leaking a lot of water in rough sea conditions.

your dodger was WAY nicer than that PoS one I left on it for you. It's still got my solar panels though. LOL I had a 300 lb Tongan customs guy playing Ukelele and drinking my hooch on the stern until I realized he'd immersed the stern so far that water was coming in around the rudder box in the chop. Good times, had to bail about 6" of water.

@@Sugarsail1 classic 😂 we are actually off to Tonga as soon as we get a good gap
in the weather. Not in Little Wing though, just taking our big boat up this year and hoping to sail in tandem with Little Wing to the islands next season 🤞 we want to change her standing rigging and finish a few things off before she’s ready for another offshore adventure…maybe you should come and sail
her up with our son 😉

@@Camarasailing So glad you guys saved this boat. I've been sending your video to all my friends here in California. I took a good beating sailing from Tonga to NZ, had a close lightning strike that blew out the radar detector. I noticed that you still had the bracket and antenna for that radar detector on the mast....surprised no one took that off since the detector didn't seem to work anymore.

    • @Camarasailing
      @Camarasailing  Рік тому

@@Sugarsail1 yeah her refit isn’t finished yet. Lots of systems to inspect, upgrade and service yet. The first priority was to get her repaired and painted. As our son is still young and paying for things as he earns it’s a slow progress and we got our own boat to maintain…but we will get there. We reckon she will be such a cool boat for the islands and what a wicked first boat for him!
