Here's some quick reasons why I use a bore guide for cleaning, what I want them to look like and what they're made out of.

Good video, never thought much about them when I was using the universal type but I've since changed to to 21st century and huge difference how they protect in several ways while cleaning
21st makes a great one too. I forgot to mention them.

I have wondered john why don't some of these custom makers of bore guides like pma Lucas etc, why don't actually make the guide to have the neck also and sit all the way to the front of the neck
reminds me of the Lucas bore guide...bummed he doesn't make them any longer
I have some delrin bore guides for the AR15 and the AR10, not sure what my 700 bore guide is made of but it is one of those with the screw in locking bar (which always seems to work loose). I need to upgrade my 700 bore guide.
I've never liked using any of the bore guides that have the bolt locking bar like you said. Just my preference.
I use Mike Lucas bore guides. A bit pricey but they work well
Yeah those are really nice too, I'm not sure he's making them anymore and I think the PMA has largely taken over his segment.
I'm also using Mike Lucas but have heard he's not longer making them
F-Class John that’s too bad. I have his bore guides for all my rifles. I know he stopped making them for a few months in 2019 due to a health issue.

How do you chuck up the delrin guide in a drill? Just tape the tapered chamber end and clamp the cordless drill chuck around it?
It's been a while since I did it but I'm pretty sure that's all I did but I think it just barely fit if I remember right.

Hi John what is your opinion on Bore tech cleaning tools and solvents. I’m seriously considering dropping 260 bucks not including shipping. On rods brushes,jags,and the solvents for my pistols and rifles.
I think they make great stuff. Boretech and KG Products are about the only thing I'll clean my guns with. As far as bore rods and stuff I really like Boretech and Montana Extreme.
Any tips/tricks for replacing those pesky O-rings when they give up the ghost? ;)
Sadly no. I've just taken an Xacto knife and gotten under it and popped it off but I'm always worried about cutting the delrin too much.
With the barrel separate from the action as you showed can’t you just clean the barrel separately?
It’s actually more awkward to do that. 21st Century makes a bore guide that threads on for off-action cleaning but it’s still tough to get leverage to push the rod through.
Good video, I use a super cheapie but you have to hold it in with one hand and do some sort of advanced yoga move to clean the barrel. I used the bore cam you talked about earlier and got a view of my chamber and had to go buy some chamber brushes to fix that all up. I looked on Amazon for the bore guide and don't have a .308, so looks like rubber bands and yoga it will be.

Would one of these guys' guides work for a Lee Enfield?
I would contact Creedmoor Sports and see what they can do. They have a wide assortment of guides and may even be able to make a custom if need be.

@@bluracer766 It would be better than nothing but always leaves the chance for slight leakage of cleaning solvents and such. But no matter what I'd much rather have a universal bore guide than no guide because at least it would have the most potential to help prevent any damage.
@@FClassJohn Yeah, I'm going to grab a Lyman anodized aluminum you can get em for $18 which is pretty good. One last Q, after the bolt and magazine are removed there really isn't much that can be damaged by leaked solution but a little bit of metal which can easily be reached / cleaned and a small amount of the stock also very accessible, can you recommend anything to apply to the stock to protect it from damage? It's a 1916 #1 MK3 so naturally I'd like to keep it in shape.
@@bluracer766 As far as leaking, you always have a chance of fluid getting into the trigger as well as where the barrel threads to the action which are both mitigated with the bore guide. To protect the stock, grab an old towel or go to somewhere like JoAnns or Michaels and get a small piece of vinyl or fake leather to make it waterproof.

@@chazt4863 All depends on bullets and whether you're going to turn necks or not. Lots of variables. Let me know what bullet you are going to use and if you're going to turn necks.
@@FClassJohn Thanks John, I'd like to use the Berger 284 gr Hyb Tgt bullet. Planning to use Lapua 6.5 x 284 brass and I doubt don't mind neck turning but an option for both would be most beneficial. I doubt if I ever shoot an F-Class match but I have read great reviews about the caliber and its long range capabilities...human error excluded :). Also, Congratulations on your new business. When will you start selling products?
@@chazt4863 I’m assuming you meant 184 Berger? On that assumption most guys run anywhere from 220-250 freebore and 318-321 on the neck for no turn brass. Make sure you talk to your gunsmith when it comes time to chamber it so you can narrow it down to what will work for you.

I agree and also looks like a PMA too. The big difference is that the PH guides don't have the solvent ports integrated, you have buy it separately and it pops into that back. With these, it's all in one as is the PMA.
Wasn't a new concept even when PH started selling them. These are longer so one less o-ring joint for the solvent port, other than that, there are many similar ones over the decades.

Nothing for a .308 Winchester.
I was in the military for over twenty-one years. I put thousands of rounds thru weapons and cleaned them all without a "bore guide." They all survived for many years. I am not sure this is a big deal.
Just a thing some people want. Im sure when youve got some expensive ass custom stock you probably wouldnt want to get hoppes or sweets all over it. Its like having a bunch of cleaning accessories for a camaro or somethin

Competition gun can shoot 0.5” at 100 yards and and less than 3” at 600 yards .
You military gun shoot 22” target at 600 yards .

What model bore guide is that and do you think it will work with a Terminus Apollo action in 6.5 creedmmor?
I will check out either the Creedmore sports website and look at their fitment chart because they have a ton of Borguides for just about everything or go to PMA and look at theirs. Those are the two that I own.
