I own an 86 with the 2.0 and I have been looking for a video like this for forever, this was very informative and helpful, I would love to see more of the truck, keep it up!
thank you For the feedback. Nice, how long have you had you truck? Definitely I will be making more videos, any particular maintenance you are trying to see done to it?
same
Had an 85 Ram 50 with 2.6 and 5 spd 4wd. I miss that truck, however, it was a gutless brick. I made a header manifold for it, it had dual exhaust, and I tried a lot to try to get more power out of the engine. I came to the conclusion that a 318 was the only way to solve the power problem. Once I realized the amount of work that would be needed, I sold the truck to some alcoholic, and then I purchased a 95 Dakota 4x4 with a 318, and that was a much wiser choice. The Ram 50 had its uniqueness, however, the Dakota was light years ahead of the Ram 50. Watching this video reminds me of my old truck though.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
NIce job man, I got an 82 Dodge D50 also, having problems with the carb so also going with the Weber 32/36. Gonna start doing a rebuild on vehicle. Please post more videos with parts you've updated and replaced to get the old trucks back on the road. Also, how can you tell if you have the 2.0 vs the 2.6L engine. Im pretty sure I have the 2.0L. look forward to more videos. Thanks
Dude that is one clean job , 👌 , I have a 84 ram 50 4x4, I wish you can do that to my truck, where are you located?
Where do I get this kit from, I have a 86 d50 and need a carb
What did you do for the vacuum box and everything? Or are most of the vacuum system just deleted with the new carb
Very helpful. Only way it could have been better is if you showed the removal of the original. I sadly had a lot of trouble with that part.
Yeah, sorry about that. I didn’t think of making this video until after the Weber was already installed. Were you able to remove the old mikuni carb?
@@theosgarage6416 Yes, I got it off. Still having trouble with the conversion though. It is boiling gas off the new carb and seemingly leaking gas somewhere once warmed up. Of course it would not, could not ever seem to leak any gas while sitting at idle and would only do it while I was in motion slowly so I can't even tell where it is coming from. Probably both issues are due to the fuel pressure being too high. So I got a Holley Fuel Regulator, but I ended up getting a factory defect that had the wrong spring inside, and it has been so hot outside that I haven't been wanting to deal with it.
@@tigerofhappiness sorry to hear that, yeah I watched a lot of videos before installing and some showed that issue of the gas turning into vapor due to heat, I hope when it gets cooler in your area that it goes away
How did you hook up the transmission kickdown?
83 Sport model 2.6L engine AT pretty much the same ?
Did you need to use any gasket sealant?
Nope, just the gaskets that came with the kit. I did buy spare gaskets though because I ran into the issue where my coolant soaked the bottom gasket and then I had a vacuum leak( constant high pitched squeal during idle).
thanks for the vid, i have an 82 2 wheel drive. runs like crap. carb was maxed out rich and high idle by last owner just to keep it running, pretty sure it needs a new carb. Do you know if this will fit the rear wheel drive truck. I wrench on new stuff but haven't carburetors too much.
It should fit it no problem regardless of being a RWD or 4WD, if you check out the redline Weber website they have a chart that’ll show you what’s compatible with your year. I’ve added the link to make it easier.

Thanks for the video. About the set screw being used to clog the coolant port. Is that coolant port threaded?? I have an '82 D50 with the 2.0 and the port is not threaded. I tried using the 1/4 set screw and it is too small. Does the plumbers tape make it fit better?
Unfortunately it is not pre-threaded, if you get a basic tapping set you can thread it for the set screw and as for the plumbers tapes I used it to catch and seal in between the screw and threads better so no coolant leaks through.
@@theosgarage6416 ok. So on your 2.6 did you thread it yourself?
@@theosgarage6416 I also saw where you can JB weld this shut. I might go that route
Yes, you just have to have patience because it’s recommended to only do like 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn at a time and unthread it completely so you get a good clean thread pattern and make sure it’s straight. Definitely something you want to take your time on and it only takes a couple minutes.
I’ve tried JB weld and tried to shove it in there and didn’t have much luck, but I’ve also never used it on anything prior to that one time so you might have better luck.
I want to put this carb on my 86 mighty max 2.0 does it make the emissions better or worse because my truck is having a hard time passing smog with the old mikuni carb.
I honestly couldn’t tell you. My county doesn’t require smog tests like other areas.
you will not pass emission s with this carb
Where does the big plug go that comes with the kit
Not sure, I never installed either of the ones in the kit. No port that I delt with during the install were that big and the instructions don’t mention anything about where they go sorry.
I like to see a tacho install
I will make one when I can find a new tachometer, due to the one I bought off Amazon isn’t working with the truck. Any particular one you’ve seen that you are thinking about getting?
is there anyway you can get a link for this carb I need to do this to my D50 Thanks
I uploaded a link for you, hope it helps and thanks for watching.
@@theosgarage6416 Thanks so much I just ordered one! cant wait to get this truck running again
how has the mechanical pump held up?
It’s been good this entire time since I have the regulator connected. My pressure gauge doesn’t work anymore, but other than that the truck starts up fine.
What kind of mpg do you get?
Not sure never really thought of it, I don’t daily this truck unfortunately.
