Will it Run? Abandoned Mitsubishi made Dodge Ram 50 sitting for over a DECADE

- I bought this Mitsubishi made 1984 Dodge Ram 50 sight unseen in hopes of getting it running and driving after being abandoned for 10+ years. I read and read about these mini truck and realized very quickly the Mikuni carburetors are JUNK! That was not going to stop me to try and get this Japanese made truck back on the road though - Will I be able to make it happen?

I wish we could still buy little trucks like that one. Thanks Government.
I know right!
100% keep her, you should try and restore her as much as you can. Love these Trucks and wish we could still get them.
It’s very far gone unfortunately
I have 5 of these trucks here in Pittsburgh, including my avatar, a 1981 Big Horn. BTW, that is a 82 Ram 50, not an 84. If you really want it to run right, ditch the mikuni carb for a weber. All my trucks are 79 - 86, and I have owned my 1980 D-50 since new, so I know these trucks very well.
She’s a little to rough to dump a bunch of money into it
PA. Greetings from North MN. Dodge n Vintage Snow Guy. Few years bout everyday thinking need mpg fisable hwy trips! Only had one D-50 4x4 was mint till liftted n first ice drive sharp curve spin roll hung in trees... If selling reply or post vintage craigslist Brainerd MN
on the G54B 2.6L engine, does the mikuni carb needs to be removed before the fuel pump can be replaced ?
it can be removed without removing the carb, but it makes it easier.
thx @@user-cz3zv9zx8m , how would you remove it ? can you describe it ?
i LOVE these old mini trucks! especially original ones like these. I love your channel and what ya do!
Thank you very much!
Not a bad little truck to keep around definitely keep it and make more video's
Best little truck - you are very lucky - my first truck was a 1983 D-50.
Mitsubishi are crazy reliable ton of em running for years in my country
What country?
@@RealSteelFabrications grenada its in the Caribbean
Love the ram 50's
Never messed with one until this one. I am surprised how well it runs tho - much better than my 1983 Mazda B2000
You found my trucks twin!
I had an 83 D50 when I was stationed at Fort Campbell the first time from 93-95 and absolutely loved it, Mine was an automatic though, I'm from right outside St. Louis originally and was a little over 4 hours from home, I could load my weekend bag and jump in my truck on a friday night right after final formation and be home by 9 for dinner with the parents or going to the movie with my Gf. and could do it round trip for $15 in gas. Was a good looking truck? nope, Did it have 500 hp? nope, not even sure it 100 horsepower but it more than served it's purpose, I wish I could find one now as a project to build the way I wanted mine back then.
I am about 2 hours from St. Louis, would sell this one cheap
@@RealSteelFabrications I live in Arizona now. I barely know anyone from there now
Keep workin’ on the ole Dodge!!! That things slick as all get out. I’m sure you could get a title without much difficulty. No more than you have in it , it’d be well worth the effort.
If people would like more content of it I can try
My dad has one of these trucks and it unstoppable 😂
What year is his? Still running the original carburetor? Sounds like a lot of people swap them out for a Weber.
Bought the same one a month ago and it’s having trouble going into gear either clutch cables shot or clutch but it’s a gem
Might be slave cylinder
Mazda’s gonna look so slick w/ those mirrors & wheels
Mirrors and wheels ;) but yes bb
I got my ram for 900 bucks back then yonder 2017 (hairlines away from the junkyard really), it was rough and took effort but still a ended up getting to a solid build overall. I have to keep everything stock here in California otherwise it would run a whole lot peppier.
These are tough lil trucks.
Brilliant. Obviously no cops nearby😂
This guy NEVER watches vice grip garage 😉
Hope you kept the little ram together and got lucky enough to obtain a title if anything its a good little toy cruiser❤
Those are good little trucks.
Sure is fun! Not for sure what to do with it for the next video….
Great Video! Thank you for the hard work! The Dodge is a fun little guy but since the Mazda is in better condition my Humble opinion is to do what you suggested and use it for parts and rock the other one! Because I will be hoping you're about to get a hold of something a bit more exciting and interesting compared to these little trucks. (They're great don't get me wrong) something like a sweet old V8 car from the early 1960's or something like a sweet old V8 car from the 1970's or even 1980's (70's were better lol) but honestly whatever you like because it's your money, your channel, your time, your effort and if you don't love it then it won't be something you have interest in and it will lose your attention fairly quickly if that's the case. ROCK ON!
I bought a 78' firebird and did a video on it. I really just try and get stuff that is a decent deal or weird. I really enjoy getting stuff running that has been sitting for a long time.
You can get a title for the ram from your dmv if you submit an abandonment request I believe. Can’t remember but I did it twice years ago
dodge ram 50 one of the best mini trucks ever made i could not kill mine and i tried
I like the Datsun body styles
I’ve had the ram 50 for a while and now I have the Mitsubishi version same thing and I love that truck I would say the carb is the worst pain in the ass in these trucks if you don’t have to deal with emissions tests I would just swap it for a Webber it will run better and you’ll get rid of a lot of useless junk the original carb comes with
Heard great things about the Weber swap. Don’t really plan on doing much with this truck though
Never saw one before. Crazy
I haven’t seen many. Seems to be a good little truck though.
I love the ram 50
Thanks! It's a neat truck.
I love restored Ram trucks.
What should we do with this fine gem?
Cool :)
Thanks!
I love the ram 5 plz keep it
Idk what to do with it
I haven't seen one of these for a while I had one when 18 where someone cut the roof off it wasn't safe to drive after that but it was inspected for that summer
Might cut the roof off of this one
Had one of them there Ram 50,s. What a pain in the butt it was. But it got me there time and time again....kinda wish I still had her shooot.
Junk carbs
I had an Orange 1 in high school
...my timing chain has a bit of slack, about 1/2" or so, on the driver's side ... passenger side is tight, the side where the tensioner is installed ...the chain, sprockets, all look good & shinny, no sign of damage as far as the eye can see ... should this be a concern ? G54B engine, 2.6L auto, gas ..
Man you gotta keep the little ram title 42 that thing. Gotta have a few little trucks around if not.ill buy her
What do you mean by title 42?
You kiddo are one funny dudezilla!
Appreciate it!
That Ram is such a nicer truck than the Mazda I wouldn’t ruin it I’d try and get a title for it for sure
Mazda is in much better shape though. I like the looks of the Ram 50 more tho…
@@RealSteelFabrications i don’t think it’d be to bad to restore
keep filming with your dad and sis they makes the video nicer
That’s my girlfriend, but will do
id completely recommend a weber 32/36 and throwing that mikuni carb in the nearest metal shredder those carbs are garbage and hard to work on i have a 87 ram 50
Looks like one we had years ago
Awesome! Fun little truck
Hi, I'm not sure if you will see this, but I was wondering if there is any chance you would be willing to sell that original stereo. I bought a 1985 Dodge Ram 50 as my first car, but unfortunately, it doesn't have the original stereo.
Sierra p100 we have in uk but very old and rare now as it’s a ford and rust from inside out
Ahhh dang! Sounds like a Ford Courier of the states
Sometimes you just gotta blow the cobwebs out of em!
Sure did on this one
on the G54B 2.6L engine, does the mikuni carb needs to be removed before the fuel pump can be replaced ?
I would not think so
thx@@RealSteelFabrications the two nuts are out, carb comes out 1 in, then hits the back of the mikuni carb, doesn't come out ...what am i missing ?
Replace tank and fuel pump plugs wires oil change flush cooling system
She’s running good now, gonna put her to work on the property now
Don’t ever see old tricks like this in the uk anymore, just to far gone because the weather and rust and end up in the scrapyard
Same here!
Pump it girl. Pump it
I’m guessing the exhaust was clogged with debris that’s why it wasn’t idling and smoking a ton.
Just a junk carb
Around that time Mitsubishi was making a lot of motors for the American cars. They also did the mustang and ranger too. The first person to say that Lima motors were Mazda. Guess what. Same people. Just like Acura is Honda 😂 don’t even. Also. What do u do with all these old vehicles?
I'd make the Dodge a yard ripper and make the Mazda a show truck
Does a fine job ripping in the yard!
With how long its been sitting I would have pulled the carb and cleaned it before I tried to crank it
Not necessary a lot of the time
Forged pistons, and a big turbo & cutom intake that forklift motor will run 10s
Man that would be sweet
Thumbnail didn’t lie. There is butt in this video. 👍
Thanks, I have been working on it
That carb needs broke down completely
It was done. They were junk new I guess.
the blond gal is beautiful!
She sure is, Jakob
Weber carb swap!!
Truck is pretty rough
Mitsubishi more reliable than any american made vehicles. Much less dodge. Come on man
Whatttt
Daily driver the rusty truck
You need to do a better job at naming your videos!
Any recommendations?
@@RealSteelFabrications perhaps add made Dodge Ram 50 run after sitting for over a decade.
That is a rare truck today at least in my part of the woods 🪵...
Don’t think I’ve ever seen one on the road around here either. What state?
@RealSteelFabrications massachusetts, unfortunately a we get quite a bit of snow which means quite a bit of salt 🧂 on the roads..
Ohh I gotcha. Salt is the worse!@@jethro1260
