Dream Theater has been on the cutting edge of pioneering Progressive Rock since the mid-eighties. Just this past October, they released their fifteenth album, “A View from the Top of the World” and it is a smoking hot example of their iconic sound.
Founding member John Myung has been the powerhouse on bass that has been driving the band’s low-end. I have had the great pleasure of listening to the new album more than a few times and I am stoked to have this opportunity to chat with John via Skype.

I was enthralled with John Myung's bass-playing ever since I was first introduced to Dream Theater! Amazing work! I'm a drummer, and obviously a fan of guys like Portnoy and Peart, but man, Myung is a BEAST on the BASS!

John...how can I get the specs on your original Yamaha signature basses? It's the only 6er I've ever been comfortable playing and would like to use that neck spec for a custom design build I have for myself.

Very much a quiet guy. Ive never heard him laugh in 35 years lol. Very good bassist. Very aggressive plucking style like geddy lee. Makes a lot of fret noise on the bass. I was always curious how they recorded him to try and minimize that. Great interview though.
And I always thought Chris Squire was the man. He still was, but Myung has the right to take it to the new level. Victor Wootin is a step close to Myung. A true artist
