So heartwarming. My daughter runs an etsy shop here in Germany (cute animals and such) but made a similar box lately, just for fun. So the files are out there, like makerworld (that I browse daily) and are printed on every corner on the planet, no matter where and which language is spoken. It kind of brings us all so close to each other. Happy Christmas, in 3D!
Thank you for these videos! I started watching you about 3 months ago when I started my store (initially I just wanted to sell the bare minimum to fund my own personal 3D printed projects) and now I'm close to 100 sales! I'm in a completely different niche, but my girlfriend and I love your content and the little nuggets of valuable information you drop.
great job...Two points.. First open the top with an AMS lid lifter, Helps to keep the extruders from clogging per Bambu... Second point.. And the end stop to your AMS adds an extra space for a roll and keeps the ends from being unsafe.
For your bookmarks, are you mostly printing in Matte or Basic filament? I am brand new to this and trying to figure out where to start and where to end up.
Love the videos Macy. And interestingly a few months ago I met someone on a cruise who looks like just like you and he's also from NC. Very interesting
Thanks for the videos. They're always entertaining. It's always scary looking at one's face, lol. Don't worry, yours is much better than mine. You're a generous person, the school kids are lucky to have you. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Why do you suppose the extruder gears get clogged up? I have 4000 hours on my three printers and I’ve never had a clogged extruder gear. Do you think it’s because of the brand of the filament or do you think it’s because you have such high volume?
Super cool boxes just curious as a noob how do the printed parts of the gift box assemble together do you need adhesive? I just opened them on maker world but didn’t see how they work
As always love your content!! Thank you so much for sharing your journey, tips and tricks with us! I’m curious if you use flush objects for your multicolored prints? Do you struggle with clogged purge chutes (too!) I have been struggling with the top of my p1s purge chutes backing up and am looking for solutions. I’ve tried endless nozzle wipers, solutions for sticking, flap extenders etc. I change the volume multiplier to .6 and I have a plenty large enough bucket…it’s all getting stuck on the trap door and then builds up from there. It’s driving me mad! 😩
I use a flush object sometimes, but not always. They make good toys to give away. And yes about the clogged chutes. They don't happen like yours seem to, mine is just when the bucket fills up. I made a video about printing and installing a poop chute to try and help with that, but it made things worse so don't do that haha. I have no helpful solutions unfortunately, just to check on them and try to catch it.
Macy, Sorry if you shared this in the past and I just missed it, but could you tell me the brand/model of shelving you are using? I bought one I thought would be good and it was too flimsy and wobbled all over the place. The one you have seems pretty sturdy and has some stabilizing crossbars. Did you have to anchor it into the wall, or is it stable enough on its own? Thanks.
They’re the kobalt shelves from Lowe’s. They still shake a little but doesn’t affect printing. They would probably benefit from being mounted to the wall but mine aren’t.
Just realized where you are. Without disclosing this town in NC, are you doing okay from the horrible hurricane we had? My family in Asheville weren't so lucky.
Sorry to hear about your family! We're all good here. We are just south of the major damage areas, so a few trees down and some light flooding, but nothing like the mountains. Thank you for checking in :)
After you remove a plate/print from the Bamboo and re insert the build plate do you have to re level? You have not shown that. It seems I have to re level after every print on my Creality Ender 3 s1 pro.
@@stevendunn264Bambu has seriously made 3D printers into tools, instead of needing to have a 3D printer hobby, on top of whatever things it is you're trying to create
You're absolutely adorable Macy....print that face over and over with confidence! Seriously, most ppl are probably self conscience about their appearance. I sure as heck ain't printing MY face! LOL When you are doing different projects on different printers, do you do it all in one session of Studio? I have been opening 2, 1 for each printer...mostly because I am often printing something for the 1st time and I usually wait until I see if it worked right before I save the 3mf. So I start one thing (not saved yet) but I want to print something else on the other one so instead of using 'new project' which wipes out the existing one, I open another Studio and open it there. I suppose not saving my projects, even in the 'testing' phase could bite me in the butt if I lose power or something.
Thanks :) I have 10+ studios open when I'm doing videos haha because I don't always want to save the files and it helps me stay on track with what still needs to be printed. But, if it's for an item I'm selling or that I've printed before, I'll usually just have one studio up since I'm not worried about saving.
I'm curious - do you end up doing anything more with the swap parts, or is the time investment to trouble shoot further just too high when you're looking at it from a business perspective?
Since the nameplates are for a specific name, it's hard to do much with those. I kept one of each color to have on hand as examples for color options but besides that it's kinda tough.
@macymakes3d oh, I meant like the extruder/gear/hot end replacements. You did the AMS a while back too I'm just curious if you're swapping out the parts that are actually bad within those assemblies, or just calling it at the high level shown in the video. I can see arguments either way - Bambu parts are reasonable enough, that taking the time to work on them further probably costs more in your time than the complete replacement part that you swapped in 😄
Hello Macy, thank you very much for sharing your day-to-day with us! Just got a question: I've been trying to find that mini astronaut for a while, can you please share the link to it?
I'm newish to 3D printing. But can't you make a medium size model by just scaling up a small model or vise versa. Do I need one designed to be the printed size. Does that give you better quality or some other advantage?
I think every time you put out a video, a couple more printers have snuck into the available nooks and crannies of your workspace. You're going to need to dig a sub-basement soon! Do you track your filament inventory in any formal way, or do you just eyeball what you've got on the wall to know when you need to order more?
Haha yeah printers are starting to pile up. Hoping for a new space in the new year, but well see :) Right now I'm not really tracking filament since it's all kinda visible, but eventually I'll need to in some way. I'll try to give an update if I ever find a good way.
🤣🤦♂️ I do the same thing when I want to print something and I can’t choose what I want to print 🤣. Time is precious! I’m not going to print all of them.
Love your videos - Happy Christmas to you and your family! Have you ever thought of working out how much you earn per hour from various aspects of your business? Too often, small business owners look at just the difference between sales revenue and business costs, without including their own labour. When they count the hours they work, many of them find they are working for less than the minimum wage! Obviously I don't expect you to divulge the amount of money you make, but you could perhaps give some indication which parts of the business give you the biggest return per hour? Remember to count every minute you work, including going to the Post Office, and the bits you enjoy so much you don't think of them as work! As a suggestion, try counting the time you work on each aspect just for one week, and get a rough estimate from there. May 2025 bring you continued success and (more importantly) health and happiness!
Oh, yeah! I know I'm under paid haha. I work all hours of the day, holidays and weekends too. I'm afraid to tally it up. But I'm still increasing my "salary" every month too, so I know I'll eventually get to where I want to be. The most lucrative part of my business is UA-cam. I'm still trying to grow the sales side of things too, but the return is greatest from making videos.
@@macymakes3d Thanks for the interesting reply. I was going to suggest that you concentrate more on the parts of your business that make the most money. But obviously the UA-cam videos depend on the sales side, so you can't really scale back the sales side compared to video production. Without access to the data re. earnings per hour, I have a sneaking suspicion that increasing sales would be a mistake. Why? Because with your current product types, the only way you can increase sales revenue is also to increase the time you spend on sales, and you are already working "all hours of the day...". And the earnings per hour would stay the same! The only way to break out of that cycle is to develop higher value items, where the skill-level is higher, but the time taken will be the same. Or alternatively, develop items that take longer to print, but sell for more (less work for you per dollar revenue) That is the kind of decision you can only make when you have the data. Please don't blindly increase sales without working out the implications re. working hours, etc. Another idea, instead of increasing sales volume, is to explore different aspects of 3D printing. Not necessarily for the revenue it generates (although it could generate more returns), but in order to produce more varied content for your channel, and attract more viewers. Ask your viewers what they think you should try to make, and film the process of learning how to do it. I still think you should work out approximately how much you earn per hour this January, and then compare it in a year's time. That is the only way you can chart the development of the business, and make crucial decisions on the direction you take. Remember that the transition from a hobby to a business is incredibly difficult. Especially the ability to stand back and make objective business decisions based on data. I have the greatest respect for anyone who embarks on that journey. Good luck! ... and sorry for the long posts.
You can sell the files if you have a commercial license from the creator. The boxes in this video were given away so personal use is okay. The ones I'm selling will have all commercial rights covered.
Next time there’s a printing error, I’d suggest emailing the customer to inform them. Keeping a flawed product isn’t a solution; improving customer service is essential. With a minor issue, you could either send the item as is, include a replacement, or ship it with a note explaining the problem while ensuring timely delivery. If a replacement is necessary, ask the customer to let you know. Good customer service can serve as effective advertising-encouraging reviews or benefiting from word of mouth can help your business grow. This approach requires minimal time and cost, creating a win-win situation. Even if the customer is upset about the blemishes, you can provide guidance on temporary fixes while arranging for a new item if needed.
