I'm surprised they haven't brought back all their past surviving villains to team up. That seems like the next logical step for this crazy soap opera franchise.
Jason Mamoa really understood the assignment. Everyone else was themselves too serious. It was a blast all the way. I skipped Fast 8 and 9 but this was back in form. Glad I watched it.
John Cena was also having fun with his role. But at the same time, it kinda ruined his character from the previous movie. Momoa and Cena felt like they're in the same movie but completely different than anyone else
Look Dan, I 100% agree that setting up one last one would be a brilliant marketing play to make all the money. On the other hand, I’d watch Fast 25 where Dom races his walker around the nursing home to steal back Lettie’s pudding cup.
I'm a fan of the franchise, but who thought F9 was a sour, bloated bore. But I thought this one was fantastic. The set pieces really pop. I think they did a good job of giving the whole cast stuff to do. And Momoa's insane performance is going to become legendary.
F9 felt so much like going through the motions and just going way too big to the point of no return. I think having letterier replace Lin was a blessing in disguise, because I love the way the action was shot in this movie. An energy and editing style that felt new to the franchise, which was extremely refreshing. I’m mixed on the movie, but thought the action was overall great and made a lot of it would work when it shouldn’t have. Def better than 9 and on par with 8 and 7
Looking at the resume of the writer and director of this movie is an example of how I don't understand how Hollywood works. How do you walk in and say, "We are responsible for some of the worst movies of all time, specifically Wrath of the Titans, can we please be in charge of your multi million dollar franchise movie?" And the studio was like "I see here that most of your movies were hated by critics and audiences and many were box office flops... So how does a $250 million budget sound?" The are so many talented writers and directors but guys like this keep getting hired and I don't understand it
My guess is that it's only because they have "experience" working on a blockbuster and are certain even the most undemanding person will be fine with a Fast movie.
A lot can go into what makes a movie bad -- it's not always the director, but I'll note that negotiation power, contracts, and timing play a much larger role than who the director is, especially for franchised movies like this. There's probably a very low chance that the Christopher Nolans or Martin Scorseses of the world will ever touch F&F and no way that Hollywood execs would pay the right price for the most reputable director -- also timing and who's working on what and who can be scheduled when can impact it a lot too. Nepo babies are also a factor like the other comments mention lol
Just saw Fast X last night, I agree that it had pacing issues, but man Mamoa absolutely killed it. I am also genuinely intrigued to see what they do next. (Spoiler Stop) I wonder if what Diesel meant by stretching's this out to 3 movies in total is that the next movie will actually be a Hobbs and Shaw sequel. Given what was in the mid credits scene and Shaw running off mid movie. Then they bring it together for a HUGE finale.
Im still shocked they havent brought back the truck driver from the first movie, as apparently he is the greatest person ever as he is the only person who has stopped Dom's crew...
Just got home from seeing it. Your review Dan were my exact thoughts walking out of the theatre. I was absolutely perplexed their was zero resolution to any of the multiple character arcs they left open. Frustrating as heck but pumps me up for the next one. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it. Dialogue and emotional ark was weak but enjoyed the action and carfu. Keep it up brother. Love the reviews!
We did that at the theater. We got Corona, and we drink to family, we drink whenever physics is completely ignored, and we drink to the specific character tropes each one has.
Nah, it just felt disappointing, really feel drained by how they ended it. I won’t bother watching another Fast movie till it’s all done. The cliff hanger is just that point where you set down a book and never look back to see what happens next. I’m just going to go re watch Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 for the 7th time because that’s a masterpiece.
I've only seen the first two of this series and was planning on doing a big marathon and watching them all in one week to get caught up for this big finale. Then I find out there's like 3 more or something. It'll never end.
Fast Five is hands down the best one in the franchise hands down! The last two were terrible! Especially F9. I just want an explanation for why these government agencies keep using these random people to stop all these bad guys instead of the people who were actually trained to do so!
F9 is the movie that made me stop caring, if that was never made then I’d be lining up to watch fX & frankly have an overall positive opinion on the franchise. That said the gov using them makes COMPLETE sense think about it, their level ups are insane. They went from competent drivers to full blown superhumans xD Who in their right mind wouldn’t use supersoilders lol?
Honestly, you may be right. I didn't make a conscious choice at the time, but the series had been going downhill, F9 was lame, and when I saw a poster for Fast X, I just went... meh.
This movie might be ridiculous, but it's ridiculously fun LOL. I think it's something that I need to (re)watch every now and then just to have fun and not think too much when watching a movie. Jason Momoa did make an interesting villain though!
Fast X is the ultimate "stitch 30 scenes together" movie. Each scene doesn't necessarily need any context from previous scenes and may not bare consequence on any subsequent ones. If you were to stylize the movie as a full blown looney tunes cartoon escapade, it would work perfectly.
The reboot trilogy with F4-F6 is still the best in the series. Before it started to get way too dumb. Like how tf is Vin Diesel steering a car that's in free fall.
I miss a Fast and Furious movie that is more like the first movie. The first movie is much like the 1987 movie No man's Land, and I loved that it was just about cars and Walker's dilemma between his job an newfound friend.
So ive been playing the video game "Like a Dragon: Ishin!" Which is a feudal japan spin off to the yakuza games. I mention this because i had the idea that they should have a one time spin off of Fast and the Furious but as a Western. When you think of the Fast franchise as a western, it would completely work.
Great spoiler-free review. I agree with just about every point you make, and as a fan of the franchise, I absolutely loved the film. Before this, the franchise had seemed to have taken an approach of trying to top the previous entry in terms of action, which had lead to some diminishing returns, with F9 being a low point. This film eschewed that in favor of building a story that ties together the previous films, as well as upping the family factor by bringing in four new characters who are literal family members of previous characters. It definitely felt like a return to form, and I put it as my second favorite of the franchise behnd only Fast Five.
You couldn’t have said it better. That’s exactly how I felt after watching FX. I’m on a mixed bag with this one but I definitely enjoyed it more than F8 and F9. I’m excited to see what’s to come in the next FF flick.
Dig that intro. Reminded me of Brother Hogan. Honestly, as a big Fast Fan (even identifying as Fast Fam), I was pretty disappointed. I felt like it went the Star Wars route of: well, everyone's got to be related to somebody or they can't have a place here. We had two different times someone said the line, "[person] mentioned they have a [daughter/sister]." I felt like they were leaning too heavily on what worked before, referencing the other movies not just directly but visually as well (e.g.: replace 6's tank with helicopters). The first 6 movies were about the characters and what they wanted. From 7 on, it switched over to the villains setting the agenda. And this movie made me realize that even though we'd have lost some great scenes (Statham + baby, Ramsey driving magnet truck), I really wish they'd ended at 7.
Such a a cool movie. Just fun action! Cool characters. These movies are a joy to watch. Not sure why everybody wants to keep acting like it’s supposed to be some realistic film. It’s a 90s action blast haha good review
I am not even a Fast and Furious guy. But for me if people like these movies im cool with it. I have nothing against them, and im not going to go on some stupid social crusade against them like idiots going after Marvel and Disney. People literally get mad when Disney movies do well. Its like their sports team lost or something. Go Fast and furious. Hope you do well.
Whatever movie Vin Diesel was in, it sure as hell wasn’t the movie everyone else was in, and they were in another movie that nobody else was in. It’s one of the most baffling movies I’ve ever seen
this is one of my favourite movies this year only because, Before I went into this film I knew I had to shut my brain off. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Do the same and you will enjoy it more than you know
It was pretty ridiculous. I think the problem is Vin Diesel has too much control now - evidenced most egregiously in the last episode. Too much FAMILY. Stunts are clearly just CGI - can’t wait for Mission Impossible to get some in-camera shit. Was not dull - but paradoxically found myself bored. Cliffhanger and incomplete story is unsatisfying also.
Just got out sawing it with a friend. We agreed it better then 9. Liked a lot of call backs to Fast Five. But damn so many plot holes in this film. Some of the editing is a hit and a miss for me.
Think of John Wick 4. THAT was a last ride, but it did soooo well (and was better than the previous chapter), the studio said, "Wellll.... what if there is a LAST RIDE-last ride? Screw the story, right?"
Dan, this is a franchise that should have ended 5 films ago. We don't need anymore. There is only been two or three that were worth a crap to begin with.
I enjoyed the review. Id be interested to hear your thoughts on Shin Kamen Rider. It's only playing 1 day, the 31st. I'm not a longtime tokusatsu fan but I really enjoyed shin godzilla and shin ultraman
I haven't seen a Fast & Furious film since the second one and I didn't plan on starting, but did I sit here and watch this entire review - of course I did. I kinda want to see this one just to see villain Momoa.
I had such a good time (watched it in 4dx just to up the ante which was... very violent and a little motion sickness inducing haha) and I felt like it was much better than the last one. Not because the dialogue was better or it was less ridiculous but bc all the call backs were great, and it was so nice to have a villain that wasn't trying to take over the world for once. p.s The kid was also great
5 years from now, if I've grown to a size to earn the privilege, I'd love to debate you about Fast Five & Furious Six because Six is my "undeniably the best movie in the franchise"
Great review. I have not seen most of the F&F movies. I saw the first one, and I think maybe the second one. Wasn’t my cup of tea. Didn’t hate them, just didn’t love them enough to be all in. But I have to admit, this review makes me want to go back and see F&F5 and maybe a couple others. Generally, I like my car stunt movies a little more reality-based.
I think watching 5 to 7 is good for those that want the wackiest stuff while still being grounded, and they make a good trilogy. Maybe 4 to 7 for more context but 4 isn't as good as the others
how many last rides have we had damn it haha can universal and paramount just join together and make transformers and Fast and furious crossover. Then these films might make sense family
I take Dan on the issue about not being a complete movie. He had the same issue with Battle Angel Alita, but he had no problem with Dune. This point seem inconsistently applied. Like Dan, I start to lose interest in 8 and 9, but I enjoyed this one. Not the best, but better than the last few. But I did not like Jason Momoa; he seemed to be just playing his version of Joker. I did like Brie Larson here more than her playing Captain Marvel. I enjoyed the banter between Tyrese Gibson and Ludicrous. Really enjoyed John Cena on the good team. The CG is apparent at times, but forgivable since the action and explosions are over the top. Looking forward to 11 and the name they are going to have…
I'm convinced that, if you were to chop up the prior FF movies into five minute clips and stitch them all together, one from each movie, over and over until you get to two hours, you'd have just another FF movie.
Couldnt agree more that Fast X pt 2 should be the final.. and Im a huge fan of the franchise but I think they need to pull an Infinity War / Endgame move
What's next? I'll tell you what's next. Vin's father is alive and has been pulling the strings all along. Vin and his dad race in the final scene of the final movie and Vin wins but dies from injuries sustained from a wreck at the finish line. Fin. Or is it? Ja Rule emerges in an after credit scene showing him shock Vin back to life somehow with jumper cables and.. lol ok, ok In all seriousness, I do foresee Vin passing away and sacrificing himself in order to save his family in the final film.
I disagree with the ending. IMO is clearly a cliffhanger: Spoiler: Dom and kid are about to drown. Part of the family seems to have died (although comfortably behind a mountain, they likely jumped out) His sister caught. His wife stuck in Antarctica (although at least WE already what will happen) Good friend likely just died in a car crash. He's all by himself (trying to protect his chameleon child) with no way out. Good cliffhanger...
I think producers made a decision that "all the kids are on Tiktok" which is just a constant stream of unrelated entertaining short scenes so if we want them to enjoy sitting through 2 hours and 20 minutes in a theater we need to do the same thing! Doesn't work if every Tiktok has the same people in them doing the same ridiculous things.
Idk if I would call this a good movie, but I had a good ass time watching it. I’m gonna check it out again before Little Mermaid takes over the premium screens. I highly recommend seeing this in 4DX of its available in your area.
Looks like you got your wish: With a budget of $340,000,000 (estimated), & only returning just under $705M Worldwide, this won’t be turning a profit, so I’m sure Fast 11 WILL be the final entry in the series.
I'm surprised they haven't brought back all their past surviving villains to team up. That seems like the next logical step for this crazy soap opera franchise.
At this point they could just bring back the ones they killed, too. Why not?
Gal Gadot should come back for 2 part last ride, lol
@DareDevil funny that you should mention that... 😏
They are already working on Fast and Furious 11!
Ngl I don't hate this idea. I'd love to see DK come back.
I hope they call the final film Fast XXX where we then get told that Xander Cage is his long lost twin
With a post credits scene revealing that Riddick is Dom's far future descendant.
@@_JellyWalker And a talking tree for a distant cousin. Might as well.
For second i thought you pitching some "fast" porn parody. 😂🤪
That's for later... Xander where have you been for six months? Hey why did you call him Xander,.. that's Dom. 😮😮😮 Next the crossover. 😊
… and then it turns into porn
Jason Mamoa really understood the assignment. Everyone else was themselves too serious. It was a blast all the way. I skipped Fast 8 and 9 but this was back in form. Glad I watched it.

Should've been called 'FasTEN Your Seatbelts'
Or “The Fast and the Fur10us”
Or, if you're a Weekly Planet fan, Fast10 Your Butthole

I thought f9 was one of the worst ones. I wish the last films would take what made fast five so great and use it as influence.
It’s why I appreciate Dune. Because even though the overarching story is incomplete, it ends on a crucial character beat, completing his arc…
Not to mention the promise of Harkonen extending his grasp on the spice trade with the promise of killing all the Fremen to do so.

For the life of me still don’t understand how Charlize Theron character is still lingering in the franchise 😂
The only thing that got worse about the progress of Charlize in this franchise is her hair style. Geez, i don't like her hairstyle in the ninth movie
Just saw Fast X last night, I agree that it had pacing issues, but man Mamoa absolutely killed it. I am also genuinely intrigued to see what they do next.

Seems like they have perfected the "and get excited for the next product" part as well.
I enjoyed it too. Thought mamoa was a great villain
Take a shot of Corona beer every time Dan mentions family throughout this review.
*Warning:* you may die of alcohol poisoning in the intro.

@@bfife22 Thank you. I will definitely watch Fast 5.
@@SmartSmears Thank you. I will start with 5 and then if I like it, check out through 7. If I need more context, I’ll go back and watch 4.
how many last rides have we had damn it haha can universal and paramount just join together and make transformers and Fast and furious crossover. Then these films might make sense family
John woo should have directed the final film
Then the final film will have tons of doves 😬😬
Watched it and loved it . Jason was the best thing in it
The way it ends, it makes it hard to market Fast 11 😂. Reason they would have to show in the trailer how the cliffhanger is resolved
Ven Diesel = Family
2:13
Diesel in his 50s. Toretto must be in his 40s then. Must have a super young grandmother then.
I saw this today and fell asleep a few times. And I’m not going back lol like I didn’t even see Ludacris and Tyrese
the Intro! LOL!!!!
Sounds like a wait 2 years and binge the next two at the same time
Is this movie about family?
What's next? I'll tell you what's next. Vin's father is alive and has been pulling the strings all along. Vin and his dad race in the final scene of the final movie and Vin wins but dies from injuries sustained from a wreck at the finish line. Fin.
Or is it? Ja Rule emerges in an after credit scene showing him shock Vin back to life somehow with jumper cables and.. lol ok, ok
In all seriousness, I do foresee Vin passing away and sacrificing himself in order to save his family in the final film.
I disagree with the ending. IMO is clearly a cliffhanger:
Spoiler:
Dom and kid are about to drown. Part of the family seems to have died (although comfortably behind a mountain, they likely jumped out)
His sister caught. His wife stuck in Antarctica (although at least WE already what will happen)
Good friend likely just died in a car crash.
He's all by himself (trying to protect his chameleon child) with no way out.
Good cliffhanger...
Just finished watching😂😂😂 I have very mixed feelings...
I dont remember it being so slapsticky... Like Tyrese and Ludacris might have a silly fight but I felt like there was much more in this movie.
Who needs believability when you've got family.
Looks like you got your wish: With a budget of $340,000,000 (estimated), & only returning just under $705M Worldwide, this won’t be turning a profit, so I’m sure Fast 11 WILL be the final entry in the series.
Out of the entire F&F franchise, Jason Mamoa is easily my fav villain
Hilarious intro… Family.
The best review on this movie I’ve seen about 12 reviews already
