The Mob had influences going right back to the very founding of the Untied States in 1492 when they were kicked out of Spain for doing EVIL acts to the Christian Children of Spain.
They had a choice, stay and convert to Catholicism or leave, a lot left and went to the Americas and those that stayed created the secret society of the Jesuits.

The things Michael says about immigration are the most basic and rational. As a country, you are not playing in the park with your friends and meeting new people. A country is responsible for the lifes of millions of people (hundreds of millions in this case). Every country should know who is coming in and out, their origin, where they are going to be and what they are going to do to make a living. Thats lesson 1 of national security.
Many people, however, would say thats fascism, communism or whatever.
When the enemy chooses the wrong way, you dont say anything, you let them keep going off the cliff.
Cheers from Madrid, Spain, Franzese family!

Thanks Michael. I love this video. My dad led the straight life but grew up in a tenement with these guys on the Lower East Side. His dad, my grandfather, used to play pinocchle with Bugsy Siegel's dad, who used to say during the game, "Don't believe what you hear about my Benny. He's a good boy." As a Jew who grew up in NYC we've always felt a kinship with Italians and felt culturally close to them. I'm reading a great book now, "Gangsters vs. Nazis" by Michael Benson on exactly this subject centering on the year 1938 and goes into great detail about this subject and era.

Speaking of Machiavellian, Michael, I read "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli and The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. They are books about statecraft.
Once I read them and studied history on how the nobility acted in the 1400s by stooping to highway theft and seizure when they lost wealth I realized that the ruling class never changed. There's a passage in scripture, Ecclesiastes 1:18 that says, "For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow."
    It's very true.

And the funny thing is when Nicolo Machiavelli penned 'The Prince' he never intended for it to be used or interpreted like it is today. People tend to forget he wrote 'The Prince' at a time when the Italian peninsula was absolutely INUNDATED with mercenaries running amok everywhere not to mention the fact that France at the time had all but turned the Italian city - states into essentially occupied countries. Machiavelli's goal in writing what he did was less 'power for the sake of power' and more 'desperate and extreme times call for desperate and extreme measures'. And given the all but total complete civil and societal breakdown Italy was suffering at the time, is it any wonder why he held the outlook that he did to find a solution to the clear, present, and immediate problems that were happening all around him?

I really appreciate the stories, especially this one. As someone who's never interested in being in organized crime, I've always wondered what/how mobs view current events and politics, especially ones like wartime and serious national threats. This not only told me the mindsets of those days and some mobs, but also reiterated that whether you're politicians or mobs or anyone, no one's pure good or pure bad. In fact, I'd even say that anyone, even gangsters or people of the lowest hierarchy of our societies, who put concerns and care for altruistic causes for our societies are still more noble than someone who does no wrong, lives a clean slates, but are selfish and indifferent to causes and societal issues.
Many people fall into the grey area because one bit of a person's life could be less good while another bit could be very good. Of course this isn't to say cuz there's good in everyone therefore we should let down our guard or be a pushover, but more importantly when we view everyone in overly simplistic attitudes, problems occur. And the "clannish" statement explained a lot about power dynamics that can naturally arise in ethnic communities.
I also really appreciate how you advocate for women's safety because misogynists and certain groups of politicians loved to downplay women's rights and safety, and it really does lead to a lot of pain and suffering for women. Thank you for another awesome thought-inducing stories and always sharing these positive messages!!

A family story regarding Jack ruby. My uncle was looking to lease some land to run cattle near Buda tx south of Austin. The place he looked at had exotic deer. We went hunting there a couple of times. There was a train car that was built up about 15’ off the ground. It had its own elevator and according to the guide a kitchen. It was a deer blind for LBJ. For those not familiar with the area this is about an hour from where LBJ grew up. The guy who owned the land went by John ruby. This immediately peaked out interests. We asked the guide and he said it was just a coincidence. After my uncle leased it and got to know them a little better. Apparently they were dirt farmers an hour or so away in hutto or that area. My uncle asked how they went from that to owning a couple of sections with exotics that LBJ hunts on. He was told to just let sleeping dogs lie. The only thing I know for sure is LBJ hunted there and the owners name was ruby. It could all be a coincidence or not I don’t know. I just always thought it was interesting. I guess it’s irrelevant now because with Austin’s growth the land was sold and subdivided years ago.

It would be good to know the reasons why the mafia stayed away and how, the decisions taken by members of each community affected their communities back then and today.
