  • Here's my reaction to the Los Angeles Lakers' 119-108 win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of their first-round NBA playoff series at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
    I cover how LA finally beat Denver, the psychological impact after 11 straight losses, reasons for optimism, why Anthony Davis has been awesome and has me cursing, LeBron James taking over in the fourth quarter, D'Angelo Russell's bounce-back game, Game 5 and more.

      LOVE this channel, and your work prior to starting this channel.
      What is the best case scenario in regards to DLo, for the Lakers (as opposed to for most beneficial for DLo)?
      Is there even a market for him?
      For salary comp of PGs. Avg per yr
      D'Angelo Russell: $18,000, pnts 18.0, Ast 6.3, 3P% .415, FG% .456
      Malcom Brogdon: $22,500, pnts 15.7, Ast 5.5, 3P% .412, FG% .442 ... I may have added stats for playoffs, but oh look at that, Brogdon doesn't have any this season
      Marcus Smart: $19,122 pnts 14.5, Ast 4.3, 3P% .313, FG% .430 ... I may have added stats for playoffs, but oh look at that, Smart doesn't have any this season
      Seems like the only way to improve would be to try to send out a package for a bigger star? (DLo, Vincent, JHS, Wood... Maybe Prince and pick(s) for the right star? Include Hayes if there is a real strong defensive center in the overall package?

      I expect Denver to bring it in game 5 and get it over with. They definitely don't wanna risk losing a game 6 back in crypto.

      @@dvdv8197 The law of averages were that the Lakers wouldn't get swept and it took this long for the Lakers to finally win a game against Denver. I think it can go any way. The Lakers may finally beat Denver in Denver. Or not. To me a lot of it has to do with Gordon and Porter vs. DLo and Reaves. And DLo has become Jekyll and Hyde this playoff season. Hyde may show up next game and if that happens, the Lakers have no chance. But then Porter may have a bad game and balance out DLo's bad game. The DLo no-show seems more likely.

    I hope we see more of Lebron off ball moving forward. It’s very effective in keeping Austin and DLo fully engaged on offense and saves Lebron’s leg for 4th qtr. Rui is just not playing very confidently out there. I think his mistakes on defense and rebounding is getting him down and affecting his offense.
    They need to let it fly from deep in game 5. Shoot it with confidence and not guide it trying to not miss. I see Denver packing the paint after giving up 72 there this game. Malone couldn’t stop talking about it.

But Denver doesn't have an answer for the PnR actions of Lakers either. Lakers won almost every game by blowout... IF they could just get a simple offense going in the 3rd and 4th in games 1-3 to keep up with Denver scoring.

    • @scottbrewer8671
      @scottbrewer8671 26 днів тому +1

      I agree with your analysis of what Denvers Game 5 adjustments could look like. That’s also why we need LeBron to continue handling the ball to run pick & roll with AD and when the Denver defense collapses on them, our shooters D’Lo, AR, Rui, & Prince need to be in there spots behind the arc with readiness and confidence to let it fly. If we can knock down the early shots and quiet the crowd understanding the Denver adjustments we’ll undoubtedly be capable of grabbing control of game 5. With our shooters knocking down shots Denver will need to once again make adjustments at the half opening up the floor for AD & Bron to go to work in the paint. I did like our execution from Bron in the Dunker position getting easy buckets taking plays out of the Denver playbook.

    • @sy12
      @sy12 26 днів тому

      @@scottbrewer8671 yeah they’re just not shooting it confidently and hesitating and it shows in the numbers.
      Another reason I like pnr with Austin or DLo is that it makes Murray work on defense. Denver wants to hide him on defense so whoever he is guarding should initiate. Looks like Murray came up a little limp too in that 4th so that should definitely be tested early to see how he handles it.

    • @scottbrewer8671

      @@sy12 you’re right. We do need to go after both Murray and Jokic on the offensive end to make them work. Please note our “role players” (AR,D’Lo, Rui) in the first 3 games were outscored by the Nuggets “role players” (AG, MPJ, KCP) 183 - 131. In game 4 Lakers role players had the edge 51 - 49. Getting those guys open looks early so they can see their shots go in early will set the tone for those guys to build confidence early and help us to win the role player battle which is crucial to get the result we want. Bron dictating play and penetrating the paint to then look for open shooters I believe will be a strong strategy going in. HAVE to knock them down!

    • @jovanbuha
      @jovanbuha  26 днів тому

      I could be wrong. I still think size matters in this series. Lakers have gotten away with playing smaller but I think it’s bad process (and partly why they’ve been outrebounded in 3 of the 4 games and lost the offensive rebounding battle in all 4 games). Now, Rui needs to play bigger. The point I was making in this video was that he finally played better offensively - 9 points is his series high - and he was rewarded with a season-low 22 minutes. I think that’s how you start to lose Rui. Maybe the Lakers are getting there anyway. But I think he’s been slightly better than people are saying. And the alternative is Taurean, who has played well overall, but I think it’s mainly been the offensive side and his rebounding and defense haven’t been better than Rui’s. (The defense has been better but not the rebounding.) LA has been a net-negative all season with the core 4 + TP. It’s been better this series but I’m skeptical it is the rest of the series. We’ll see.

    Its insane to think how the lakers have lead for more than a 130mins out if a possible 192 in this series so far.
    Strongly believe that we need to dominate the glass, if that means playing Jaxson Hayes more minutes (10-15min range).
    I believe Jarred Vanderbilts presence wouldve been significant in maintaining LAs energy in spurts where Lebron was fatigued, been a tough series for us with Wood and Vanderbilt out( two of our better rebounders), as Denver hasnt shot the ball well at all, but have dominated on second chance points snd bench production.

    • @jovanbuha
      @jovanbuha  26 днів тому +2

      I noted that the Lakers can shoot better too. Both teams have largely shot poorly in this series. LeBron, AR, DLo can all shoot better. The point I’m trying to make, and I think I can make it clearer, is that Denver’s offense generally generates better shots. In rewatching the game, they had a lot of good looks that they missed. The Lakers missed a lot of good looks too, but I think Denver missed more (in part because they generated more). So both things can be true. I think the Lakers are due for a better shooting performance too. That’s why I said maybe next game is 135-132 game or something like that. I just think that the Lakers have struggled tracking guys like MPJ and KCP and their defense is designed to give up open 3s, to some extent. Denver has missed a lot of those shots - they’re shootjng 27% on 3s, 10 percent worse than their season average - and from a Lakers perspective, my concern would be them finally having a good shooting performance.

    The adjustment the lakers made was late in the 3rd leading into the 4th we sat Austin on the bench and went with Gabe and our defense. It was the key to the victory and was Austin’s least amount of minutes his played in this series . The season was on the line and the lakers made the correct adjustment to finally closing a game against Denver . I said in this video I still think Denver winning in Game 5 is the most likely outcome (and I said last game that I think this series is over, it’s just a matter of if it’s 4 or 5 games). However, I think the fact that the Lakers led wire to wire and won in the manner that they did, along with them leading for much of the series, creates cause for optimism. So, again, I think they likely lose in Game 5, but based on how they first four games have gone, they’ll likely have a chance (barring Denver’s shooting regressing to the mean and them blowing them out). And if they somehow win, and push it back to LA for a Game 6, all of a sudden the pressure shifts a lot.

    You call Jokic the best player in the world when he's a worse defender than Bron and yet spent so much time criticising Bron's defence.
    When was the last time Bron got targeted in the playoffs for his defence?
    My thing is; if you're going to criticise a player for his defence, don't ignore it when it comes to other players.

      Watch game 3's highlights, watch Denver's 2nd bucket, and watch Lebron's "defense"... I've never seen something that embarrassing, on defense.
      and that's just ONE example.

      I have criticized both Jokic and LeBron’s defense in this series. I would counter that Denver has targeted LeBron at times in this series with his low-man defense and defensive rebounding (especially with Aaron Gordon). I hear you. I just don’t know how you can watch Jokic and not think he’s the best player in the world. If so, then we can agree to disagree, to quote D-Ham.

      I disagree. Yes, AD has played over his level more compared to Jokic in this series and yet Jokic, even not going at full power is still ahead.
      Jokic might be the best scorer, rebounder and playmaker out of himself, AD and Lebron.
      The reason why AD has more points and rebounds is because jokic took way less shots than him in gms 2, 3. and because he played at least 8 more minutes than Jokic in the series.
      If minutes were matched Jokic would lead in rebounds too

This solves our offensive rebounding issues and allows us to punish them in the paint and more specifically the dunker spot. Wood can go one on one vs mismatches.
