- In this video, I share my experience of testing my underground drainage system for leaks and the unexpected results I encountered. After conducting both air and water tests, I found that my drain system had failed in some areas.
I walk through the steps I'm taking to fix the issue. I also share some tips and tricks for DIY plumbing and drainage repair, such as using the right tools and equipment and ensuring proper installation.
If you're experiencing similar issues with your drainage system, this video will be helpful for you. Don't let a failed drain test leave you with expensive repairs and headaches down the road. Watch this video and learn how to fix the problem yourself.

This is why I’ll be doing the drainage myself on my upcoming build.
Great video as usual, has given me idea on how to trace leaks in garden drainage. Thanks Aiden
Moral of the story - better planning to avoid using adjustable connectors. However, this is just another step in your learning and you will be better for it in the long run.
In an ideal world yes, although I'd say it's almost impossible to avoid using some adjustable connectors with the amount of drainage I've got (whilst keeping within the correct fall range). Plus some of the internal pipes and the inspection chamber, where the water sewage treatment plant is, were already set by someone else. I made the best of the situation but didn't realise these adjustable sockets aren't any good 😣
Decided at the last minute to stick a water feed and drainage in my workshop for a sink in the future, dug the tench and I’m just about to connect the drain up when I get a minute, I’ll be avoiding those adjustable fittings!!
Honestly though, is any builder/ground worker doing any of this? They’re going to throw it in, maybe chuck a bucket of water in the top to check it’s flowing ok and cover it all up. This is above and beyond, and then some!
Yeah I can't imagine any builders/groundworkers testing it, at least not on standard domestic jobs. Maybe that's probably why there isn't much information on the internet about it 🤔
Well done. Thanks again for a very good educational video
My pleasure!
As you say water won't be sitting in it so it will be fine. Glad you got it in a much better state though
I ended up smashing the last one full of lsx 😂 I'll air test it today and see if its made any difference
Good video mate. Spring and summer are coming soon, it'll be plain sailing then!
I was thinking about that the other day, spring is just round the corner 😁 I can start doing some long days and actually get stuff done 😂
Excellent I have to test a small waste pipe for the council builder forgot to test it trying to get someone to do it bloody nightmare,Im worried as the pipe is now under the mono block drive
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞 even if it fails an air test it can still pass a water test, I done another video on that too
Good job fella! 👌🏻
Sometimes these leak due to something simple like the seals haven’t been pushed fully home within the joints before tightening the nuts because I had a similar issue one time when installing an adjustable bend. I’ve never personally had any issues with floplast products although the worst case scenario it could have been a faulty product
Hi , thank you for your videos, very helpful and informative. We are struggling with a leak from an adjustable aqua flow bend but this has been probably badly fitted and is also concreted in . The interesting thing is that aquaflow has the rubber o-ring at the bottom of the join whilst Floplast has the o ring against the inner side wall. Maybe a design flaw ? Can you tell me how you would use the Ls-x, where would you put it in the join. Keep up the good work!
@@hansvansloun3556 I undone the compression nuts and put the lsx all around the o rings, completely covered them and then done the compression nuts back up. The lsx will only help with the compression nuts, not any leaks at the very end joints. I've been advised that Marley have the best pipe fittings
Hi thanks for your reply, I’m amazed you have got the time to answer! Initially we put the Ls-x on the mating parts of the rings but not on the o-rings. Didn’t work. However I am working under the block and beam floor and the height of the crawl space is not more then 30 cm so I didn’t manage to tighten up the rings with the strap wrench.
Managed to get Marley multiflex which is a sealed system. Wolseley informed me Marley will stop making the whole undeground range so get it if you still can. The multiflex is not as long as the aquaflow or Floplast. Got so many leaks maybe 7 in total. Don’t like the horobin metal bungs, however the horobin balloons work well and we have used them with an extension of the hose to check several joints separately . Getting a testing balloon from horobin now as well as it’s so much easier and I find more reliable. £40 ! I wish I could get a better tester instead of this awful plastic toy, the same as you are using. My building inspector insists on 38 mm water pressure for 3 minutes and not remotely :( .that is a very high standard.
Cleared 3 leaks. 4 to go…
Keep up the excellent work.
@@hansvansloun3556 Good luck with it 👍
This job would drive me mental mate 😂
Haha yeah, test it, fail, fiddle, test it, fail, fiddle.... Ahhhh! 😂
I’d have parted the joints and lubricated before re-tightening. I have used those flowplast joints (the single adjustable version actually).
That might have helped. Although I think I'd rather go for another brand if I ever had to use them again
Great video ty
Never used flopast drainage, but seen traps and push fit fittings fail, although their glued fittings appear ok
Yeah I think any solvent weld stuff is fine but otherwise I'd avoid floplast in the future 😬

👍
They are sometime the only solution, but I avoid using the adjustable angle fittings. Rarely find a scenario where a bit of planning cant be worked for only fixed angles
If I ever do it again I'd get the inspection chambers that have the adjustable sockets on them cause I was only a few degrees off. I reckon I could have avoided using at least 2 of the adjustable angles 😣
@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT To be honest they shouldn't really be selling them at such a shit quality. I doubt a lot of builders would even think that they should need to tighten them for a water tight seal
@@bensdad8343 true, I can't even imagine many builders even doing the testing in the first place though 😂
Would you please explain how to air test the drain lines?

Marley Marley all the way. Buy once, cry once.
Thanks 👍 if I ever need to use one again then I'll try the Marley
Guess that Screwfix doesn’t sponsor your channel?
😆 I wish
I have a daft question, but ill ask it.
Why do you need to test in such an intrusive way, the pipes wont be pressurised?
It's just the regulations. Building control may want to see you checking it. Although I think they often just take your word for it. The fact that you can have a little bit of leakage when pressurised means that they can be confident it won't leak when it is just under normal working conditions
That was a bit of a nightmare. What a shame the flexible fittings were such poor quality.
I wonder if other manufacturers are the same 🤔 I think if I ever need to use one again I'll smother the o rings with lsx before actually installing it
Why a small leak should be acceptable. It is a brand new pipework. It shpuld be zero drop really
It's just the regulations 🤷 but that's when it's under pressure, in the real world it would never be under pressure so if it leaks a tiny bit under pressure it's likely it won't leak at all in normal use.
flopast fittings are crap we fitted kitchens and bathrooms for the last 30 years. push fit fittings and wast fittings total crap
It's a shame they are the ones that are readily available 😑
Don’t use flo plast or poly pipe I know there cheaper but the quality is bad Marley Terrain Osma products are the dogs bollocks
Thanks for the tip
