Interesting video, but totally misleading. Any bulgarian would tell you that the models from the 60's, 70's and the 80's have nothing to do with the bulgarian reality back then. This was western fashion and we were behind the Iron Curtain.

+orange pufi It's not like it was a dictatorship, it was kind of a rebellious fashion statement, but it was widely acceptable and quite frankly- very common, although kinda expensive and hard to find being only available in a few stores. Western culture was very interesting for us back then. The only problem I have are the 30s, 40s and 50s, those were a part of the Russian culture, not Bulgarian.

The 1800 look was valid well into the 1920s in the rural countryside. The 1944 look was sported by the underground communist movement under Soviet influence. The 1956 look was the work outfit in the factories or on the cooperatyive farms. The thus-presented 1965 and 1975 looks could have ruined your life - definitely not in line with the propagated communist morale! The 1985 look - HA, HA, this was the mandatory school uniform introduced a few decades earlier (except for the socks - these were nowhere to buy and would easily have you kicked out from school for indecent behaviour!). The 1989 look - do not confuse Polly Genova's current look with it! !!! Would be practically impossible to buy this outfit in Bulgaria and in 1989 the militia was still on the alert for any "anti-social/ist" fashipn mode. As from 1995 onwards -OK.

As for me, the main thing that makes this video even more interesting than the "official" serie is that it shows us not only some Bulgarian fashion icons, but the real, casual women too (for example, the 50s tailoress). And, of course, some traditional, authentic looks from the past. Really nice! :)

That was the bourgeoisie period, big french influence when a lot of people spoke in french and dressed like french. I am not exactly sure how and why this happened in Bulgaria. Maybe it was a "trend" back then. But to this day the Bulgarian language is full of French words (plazh, etazh, kurazh, asansior, siuzhet, etiket, bilet, kabinet, kamion, bonbon, and so on and so on).
