@Davis Mohammed thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
You’re the only car reviewer with a sense of humor that always makes me laugh and completely enjoy interspersed vid clips of beautiful women. :) Thanks, John!
Carnival is a very honest car. Pre -pandemic I had to deliver a training course to a group of people, we were driving in a rented one for 2.500 km all around rural NSW for a week, five adults plus full luggage. The perfect car for the job, strong enough, smooth driving, very convenient. I found even consumption very reasonable considering the size of the vehicle.
I've ordered an SLi... can't wait. I love the fact that I can fit my entire drum kit in the back and still have five seats available for use. Can't do that in any SUV that I have tried yet. Seriously considering buying an extra full size spare as we live in Gladstone and do a lot of trips to Brisbane.
Love my poverty pack carnival. Great for the 5 grand kids, Nan & Pa. Great exercise closing those sliding doors. The Diesel engine is fantastic. The Best cruse control I have ever used, holds the vehicle at the set speed even going down Bulli pass. Brilliant car.
JC, is it just the camera angle, or is the 20-20 FO logo printed on that shirt off centre? On another note, I carry a full size spare when towing the caravan with our CX-9. Not only is the space saver crap and limited for speed, it's also limited for distance and - wait for it - only to be used on the rear wheels! Add all those restrictions together, throw in a couple of public holidays with no tyre shops open (like we're blessed with this weekend) and it's a recipe for the kids setting new car-counting records at the roadside whilst you wait for whatever help you can muster.
Absolutely love the review John! If I haven’t almost pissed myself halfway through most of your reviews there’s something wrong...... how you’ve made auto journalism so enjoyable I’ll never know😁 So the purchase has been made on the Platinum diesel and managed to avoid the “4 month” jargon with delivery in 3 weeks. I couldn’t go past it, it was a stand out. Fantastic review John and I would like to just make a special mention to the second from the left at 7:00😉👍🏻
Thanks very much, David - the humour is such an important device for getting the message across. Unfortunately (for other reviewers) it's also the hardest part of a reporting process, requiring the greatest cognitive demand and time... Congratulations on the choice - excellent call. Well done on the imminent delivery too - greatest challenge in the market currently. Thanks for watching mate.
Looking at that Carnival, I honestly reckon, give it an inch of lift and an AWD option and you can ditch that stodgy old "people mover" label and you get a cool, classy and on trend "Large SUV"
Ideally, you should have a raise and lower system. When loading grandma, you lower. When going down the well paved it can be normal height. When the conditions require it, you raise it and don't go 120k.
I actually like that it isn't pretending to be an SUV - lower centre of gravity means less wallowing in the corners. I take your point that AWD would be a good option but for most people I wouldn't think that is necessary.
As I understand it, it is specifically the lack of AWD that allows for the deep tub that the third row folds in to. This is in comparison to the Hyundai Staria which is basically the same platform, it has AWD when paired with diesel, but you lose the fold down third row.
John, just on the false positives with the collision warning system... My 2019 Mazda 3 has gotten a lot better over time. I can't find any information on the system, but considering the changes to the way it drives semi-autonomously (start-stop + lane keep assist) and the false positives over the 24,000km I've done so far, I believe it to be a learning system. Now, it almost never gives a false positive and the semi-autonimous driving has become much more smooth and intuitive. Given the evidence presented to me, I think these systems learn over time. Thanks for the video!
I have to try that door unlock / open function on my MY19 Platinum model. I agree those sliding doors are just awesome.:). Appreciate the relationship counseling as well, this channel has it all.
Completely agree the gear switch is great.... however John, perhaps you can explain the complete pointlessness of the park brake control. Surely, in Park, brake on, in drive or reverse, brake off. No need for the control at all, it’s just an annoyance.
Damn good detailed review John. I have no need for anything with more than two seats or doors but still watched the entire review as it was actually interesting and informative, so unlike most that simply 'spruke from the brochure verbatim'. Nice to know I'm not the only one who appreciates good switchgear.
It is possible to remove the outboard centre row seats, but yeah the wiring harness is a pain, primarily due to the strain relief anchors (and I broke one of them). You are also at risk of squishing the wires when you are putting the seats back in because the seats are pretty heavy.
Carnival unnecessarily hit the brakes on me three times reversing out the driveway, and FCM went crazy as I crept up the driveway toward our Sportage. Just as well I too thought it was utterly brilliant in all the right ways. That 2.2 diesel will spin the wheels if you ask it nicely.
John I’m chuckling at another brilliant entertaining video. When I emigrated to NZ in 2006 I wasted money on Toyotas, Subarus and since bought Range Rovers and Mercedes. My wife sensibly made me buy Kia Carnival Limiteds. They’ve been fantastic. Now with 4 kids, we’ve had diesels and found that the V6 Suited us best. I’m convinced that the best family wagon on the market. As much as I love range Rovers the practicality and comfort of the top spec `carnivals are much better value than the max 5 Seater Rangey.
Range Rovers are gorgeous but also emphatically crap cars to own. The best way to experience a Rangie is as a motoring journo - pick it up clean and full of fuel, thrash it, then give it back filthy and empty a week later.
@@AutoExpertJC spot on John. I’ve only learnt this the very expensive way. I still love them though. I’m going to buy the new latest V6 Carnival next though they’re awesome.

Hi John, have your seen the new ad for the Kia Stinger Gran Turismo? They mention that it has won "a cavalry of the world's biggest awards". Did they mean "calvalcade" or have I been misusing that word my entire life?
Hey John, about that 2 phone feature, it may sound stupid, but as a professional, I do carry my personal phone as well as my work phone. This feature would be useful to me as it would allow me to receive personal calls as well as business ones without having to mangle around bluetooth.

Hey John, great report, my 2017 Jaguar XE (I know) has a rotary dial - not exactly the same - but the cup holders and the parking brake switch are in identical positions. Go figure.
Speaking of forward collision warning.... I was driving a Holden Caprice a few months ago, and it had that feature. I didn't have many false alarms on the front... but the REAR. Ever time i would overtake a car, when i pulled back into the left lane, a few car lengths ahead of the car I'd just passed, it's Rear collision warning would go apeshit. I'm guessing the rear sensor was just looking directly straight back. "No car in lane, No car in lane" then when you pull back in "HOLYSHIT A CAR! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!?"
I used to own the VP in 7 seater with a 2.2 diesel. If I had 6 wives I would have kept it but I started watching Johns channel and woke up to reality. Thanks John.
As you were not accepting comments on your paint protection video I am commenting here. I was one of the gullible car buyers who purchased ceramic paint protection for my Subaru Impreza. I was threatened with a waiver to sign just like you said.. I purchased my Impreza from a Subaru dealer on the North West Coast of Tasmania, west of the city of Burnie. I’m not so bitter as to name them😂. They certainly saw me coming!
Carnival (Sedona) is absolutely best choice for consumers in Pakistan where they pay 200% to 300% in duties for sedans and SUVS which's more than Singapore.
I appreciate your comments regarding the switch gear. As a geek, that's the sort of thing that I notice and often lament even in "premium products". I am curious about the decision to go with the rotary control for the transmission. Is this just for interior packaging efficiency? Does it allow for a common SKU for LHD and RHD variants? I am sure it is nice, but the shifter in the current model Kia Seltos feels and operates so well that I feel they could have just stuck with that formula.
It arrived on dealer showrooms these past 2 weeks in the US. Unfortunately with just the V6. I'd love to have the diesel option. Still going to consider it in comparison to Odyssey and Siena. Thanks for the review.
I have a question not about this video but I dont actually know whats the best way to get a question to you... so here it is...is it beneficial for my automatic transmission to put it into neutral whilst I'm waiting at the lights or just stationary, rather than leaving it in drive...?
I'm thinking of buying one even though we're a family of 3 hahaha. Is it true that in Platinum trim, wireless android/carplay and virtual cockpit isn't available just yet due to some licensing or something of the nature? We were about to pull the trigger on the Sorrento till we saw this.
Re space saver spare on a Carnival. It cannot be used when heavily loaded nor can it be used on gravel roads. I had to take a Carnival wheel (In my Falcon) over 80km of gravel road, each way, to get it repaired and return it to the owner. Otherwise, they are a great vehicle and that V6 is a great engine.
John , I was just looking at the Kia site here in retardastan ! We still have Sedona, and now have Carnival also. They call Sedona a minivan and the Carnival an MPV. Look like two different vehicles . I will make a trip to the dealer to see them up close and let you know about them if you care at all !
I see a lot of delivery drivers. Whichever manufacturer bites the cost of adding remote doors and tails will have sales coming out of their arse. Cuts out a repetitive task and would make the workflow so much smoother, maybe even save a hour in the working week.
Ok John, I perceived this vehicle as a competitor to gobs of SUVs on the market. Yes, as a rearranged KIA SEDONA I can better put it in minivan family hauler vehicle. My appologies
I have two minivans. They both have spares under the body, below the front seat, and they both wind down when needed. But only one has Stow and Go 2nd row seats which I wish would become more common.
Sir Cadogan, are hats and shirts on the horizon by chance? Oh how I need to convey to my fellow Sydneysiders of how I wish to Make Australia Less Shit. Many thanks in advance.
My 13 year old BMW does that magic window and sunroof thing with the remote too. Great for cooling down the car quickly when its been parked in the sun
Ok here we go. I hired the 2020 model to go up north. About 1000k round trip. I couldn’t go more than 20km before I had to stop. The drivers headrest wasn’t adjustable and cranked my neck forwards. I simply had to remove it and put it in the back. After that I loved the car. Interested in any feedback guys and JC. P/S that lovely gear selector is in my junk Jaguar.
Almost the same ground clearance as the Sorrento. Wonder why they bother with the extra seats and low profile tyres on the Sorrento? Scomo from Marketing working for them?
One thought came to mind in regards to the spare tyre, could the "space saver" be replaced with a full sized tyre without compromising the under-chassis clearances too severely?
I have witnessed two Helo crashes in my time on the blue sphere. Thankful have not been a pax on said shot ducks. Pains me to see destruction of any fine machinery, but would pay actual money to fit in a third. Dramatic spectacle, surprisingly survivalable.
The stand up seats being removed is a big negative in my books. It has made our life much easier with two special needs children. If the rotating seats are available in Canada, it would just as helpful. This review makes me hope that they have one of these in the showroom when I take in the van to swap to the summer tires next week.
"Club Seating" not available down under? I can't seem to find where it IS available. I looked at US spec'd (hope that passes punctuation muster) vehicles and see we get "lounge seating" with recline and large thigh support...irrelevant to hauling children. Might have to check what the poverty package 2022 Carnival offers here in America. Had there been "reversible" seats in row 2, I think that's a far superior design for small children as a safety offering and heck, in military aircraft we traditionally rode "backwards" as a practical arrangement. Maybe in 2023.
my 2017 Ford Everest also gives me false alarms with the forward collision detection system. Every time I drive forward out of my driveway, it sets off the alarm because the driveway is angled slightly down the the road is angled slightly up, so it thinks I'm going to collide with the road :-)
@@AutoExpertJC Subaru's Eyesight system seems to do alight on this. I've had one for over a year and no false alarms from collision detection so far. EDIT this is on an XV, I just remembered that they apparently have an issue with it in the Outback.
It's just an appliance, one cannot love it or hate it. Falling in love with ones Toyota, after a 30 year long relationship I could almost understand, almost. I mean 30 years without an argument is a long time.

Dude It links up with 2 phones (or tablet I bet). Go buy a cheap 2nd phone, pair both up, and sit back and smile. About the "you are going to crash" warning. I know of a software case where "they" demanded some "are you sure" thing in a lot of places that it didn't make sense. The result was, the software folks ended up having to add an "are you really really sure" thing to the one place it mattered. This did not amuse the users a whole lot but people stopped stomping on the important thing because they were trained to click the "OK" for the warnings.
There is a lot to like in this video, too. Hotties slow mo beach pan a pleasure to be added to a vid on this big boy Kia Hyundai thing we don’t get in the UK
I would argue that you get a lot of power at low RPM because you get a lot of torque at low RPM. My argument is based on a lesson you gave where you showed us the formula to calculate power 🤭
18:40. In the UK on motorway cum highways we’ve been banned from changing our own tyre and must wait for the highway wombles. So there is that. I’m loving on this vehicle I’d never own as a family of 3. Nice white good mover. Nice thing.
@@AutoExpertJC I didn't even know it myself before read the driving bible, essential skills for driving ( driving instructor book ); nobody knows this either !!!
22:15 Imminent collision warning has another downside - not sure how it is in Oz currently, but some cars in the US have an automatic emergency braking tied to the system, so the car will automatically apply full braking in all its ABS joy - all completely autonomously. This has included plenty of times when there was absolutely nothing in front of us, but there was a risk of a collision because the car behind was about to climb in the boot after we suddenly (and without obvious reason) applied absolute pants-wetting emergency panic braking. So my in-laws have turned it off, deeming it safer that way (and they're likely correct, at least in some instances), but which also rather negates the so-called "safety" of having the system.
My 2020 Kia Cerato GT (Oz version) has auto emergency braking (AEB) and have done about 15,000km. During this time it has only once very briefly activated for no apparent reason. On about three occasions it has activated when the car in front was turning onto a side street and the car did not understand that the vehicle in front was doing a turn and therefore would not present a collision hazard by the time I reached that location. My experience is that it is a good thing. Older cars may perform worse as tech tends to improve with time. Also, the systems do need to be carefully calibrated and have a clean windscreen to operate correctly.
Six? Wow. That's almost symbolic. Like almost everyday of the week. Oh man, I hope you have or get to settle down with your day of rest. I'm a dudette who can only say they have had one day of the week crossed off and I feel for ya dude.
@@AutoExpertJC I don't know. Speaking as an undertaker, Its not suitable for a hearse, does not meet requirements for funereal ideals. However as a body transfer vehicle. 👍👍
Perhaps they changed Sedona to Carnival for North America. I'm always the last to know...
Hey sir john I changed from a toyota 86 to a 2014 astina and super happy
86 would have been hard to live with, except for a deadset purist.
John, no 2021 lemon list ? or has the list remained unchanged ? :)
Such a shame they misspelt 'tyre' on the 'Spare Tire' winding hole cover.
Maybe that is a secret code.
Hey John. Toyota Granvia VX versus the new Carnival ?
I have two minivans. They both have spares under the body, below the front seat, and they both wind down when needed. But only one has Stow and Go 2nd row seats which I wish would become more common.
Agreed on the stow & go mate.
Sir Cadogan, are hats and shirts on the horizon by chance? Oh how I need to convey to my fellow Sydneysiders of how I wish to Make Australia Less Shit.
Many thanks in advance.
John getting all Taoist, metaphysical and shit.. there is no spoon.. fuckin love it
My 13 year old BMW does that magic window and sunroof thing with the remote too. Great for cooling down the car quickly when its been parked in the sun
Mate I'm surprised 13y on that the feature still works as there electronic aren't known there reliability
@@robertceroli3512 My 17 year old BMW does it too!
Okay...My 18 year old Nissan maxima does that.
We can remove all the 2nd row set here in australia . We can even face it backeards.we just need to disconnect the wire.
I dont know how to add a pic.
Absolutely love the review!
One thought came to mind in regards to the spare tyre, could the "space saver" be replaced with a full sized tyre without compromising the under-chassis clearances too severely?
Probably - like, where else are you going to carry the flat tyre once you change it, with the vehicle otherwise full?
@@AutoExpertJC Yes, true enough. I should have thought of that.
I hate those "space savers", I'd use a repair kit (and compressor) before them.
So this is a good new car. Will it be a good old car?
Maybe?
It's industry-wide.
@@AutoExpertJC Subaru's Eyesight system seems to do alight on this. I've had one for over a year and no false alarms from collision detection so far. EDIT this is on an XV, I just remembered that they apparently have an issue with it in the Outback.
@@AutoExpertJC What you didn't say - and I really wish you had - is whether you can disable this "feature".
It's just an appliance, one cannot love it or hate it.
Falling in love with ones Toyota, after a 30 year long relationship I could almost understand, almost. I mean 30 years without an argument is a long time.
16:55. Lovely. Wish I’d had my Aussie holiday this year.
No - you really don't. All we do is beaches. No Trafalgar Square here, dude.
Lumley has stayed hot. Worrying so. Loving the 70s pic of her. I was zero at the time in 77
She has. Enduring hottie. Go figure.
Hi John,
What are your thoughts on buying a 2015 BMW X5 X30i with 100,000kms?
How deep are your pockets if something goes wrong?
@@AutoExpertJC Why are the pretty ones always so toxic on the inside.
Guess it's Lexus RX or Mazda CX-9 for me.
Is the S.L.I. trim the E.X. trim in America?
If only it could make its way to Dingo Piss Creek, we’d all be happy! 😀
You could airlift it there, on a Chinook.
@@AutoExpertJC ooh, twin gearboxes and clutches in that - double the trouble if it goes down!
@@AutoExpertJC You could push it out of the rear ramp of a C130.
Can not find your video abot the most werst cars ever .id like .to know wats up with the ford barra engin I've had mine for years and at over 600.000 kms and still going strong as do most ford barra engines i agree after sales service is crap .but other than that i find .fords to be a great car thanks for putting Holden last on the list or i would have had to bin your channel as funny as you are .please can you explain your thinking about for barra
I've heard kia motors start having major issues over 100 ks is this true?
I respected you before John, but six wives! Wow, even more respect for you now. Respect.
I'm aiming for double digits before I die. Please don't tell wife #7.
It must be a challenge to make the seatbacks with the integrated seatbelts strong enough in a crash.
Yes - agreed. Hence why most attach to the pillars.
Dude
It links up with 2 phones (or tablet I bet).
Pro tip: a pan is sideways rotation. That's a gimbal follow (tracking) shot.
Sliding doors are the best feature - children and careless adults should be forced to only use sliding doors on their vehicles
What about the regular Sedona LX
I would argue that you get a lot of power at low RPM because you get a lot of torque at low RPM. My argument is based on a lesson you gave where you showed us the formula to calculate power 🤭
JC likes to play word games with power and torque.
18:40. In the UK on motorway cum highways we’ve been banned from changing our own tyre and must wait for the highway wombles. So there is that. I’m loving on this vehicle I’d never own as a family of 3. Nice white good mover. Nice thing.
I did not know that - about the regulations for flat tyres up there in the Motherland...
@@AutoExpertJC I didn't even know it myself before read the driving bible, essential skills for driving ( driving instructor book ); nobody knows this either !!!
Ironic. To keep a seatbelt buzzer to shut ANCAP up, we lose the ability to have seats face backward-which is probably the safest way to travel.
I know. It is fucked up.
Nice review. Thank you.
Wasnt this review published earlier?
No. It's my second package on this.
So is last years better?
You're quiet John. Hope you're not stuck at DPC?
Wonder what engine the pickup TASMAN will get
2.2 diesel from Sorento/Santa Fe
Had to give you a like for "the motoring journalists code of ethics"
1/2 way through and i just realised what is on your Tee shirt. 2020 nic3on3.
He’s a big boy. Without being a bad boy.
Six? Wow. That's almost symbolic. Like almost everyday of the week. Oh man, I hope you have or get to settle down with your day of rest. I'm a dudette who can only say they have had one day of the week crossed off and I feel for ya dude.
I'm aiming for double-digits before I die. It's about the journey, right? As opposed to the destination...
@@AutoExpertJC I don't know. There is something to be said for a fort with an in house knight .... especially when it could be possible to go with the familiar on little journeys, in something like a Carnival, for a day trip, reconfigure those seats, put down a uniform more comfortable surface from which to take in the scenic look out without a look in ......
6 wives? You serious?!
I came here looking for a story about the C8 Corvette and instead got one about a Kia Carnival. Not happy John.
It's now called Carnival in North America
You had me at Joanna Lumley...Yessss. Still hot today.
