Morgan Yarbrough animal cruelty at an early age like that is a strong sign of how they’ll grow up. It’s one thing to learn to be more gentle and another to need to be taught not to innately want to hurt other animals/people. I’d see if you can get someone to take the dog from him. Sounds like it’s not a safe place for it.

Chaotic Entropy well there’s plenty of fucked up things in the animal world, but neutering your dog or animal is not fucked up it is very responsible and continues to promote adopting from a shelter instead of a breeder. for some dogs it is just healthier for them to be neutered rather than be pregnant a million times. @@HaliteHorizons most likely. Dogs can feel the same way about it as humans, which is in a basic strategic safety kind of way: "small X can be aggressive, but their maximum potential for damage is low if they are a threat, ergo there's just less to worry about with smaller X, even if larger X seems friendly enough."
This is why (especially for adult males) when approaching new dogs body language is very important. Kneel down to look smaller, turn palms up in a nonthreatening way, no sudden movements, etc. Size can be intimidating just for its own sake and no other reason, so it is important to establish trust that even if you could hurt the dog you never would. In my experience with dogs, I have heard of those with, "male fear" but they don't show fear if you show them these things, and I conclude that the cause is actually "size fear;" if a large woman approached them without considering these aspects the dog would still show fear, but not for a male who recognizes this.

@@iangoldsworthy2056 funny story there's actually a St.B nearby me. I was out walking my little 40 lb McNab/Border Collie mix Zoot when we ran into each other. Zoot was terribly intimidated by the St.B, raised up her hackles, tried to puff herself up, while the St.B was not intimidated whatsoever he did really want to play and proceeded to try and follow all the rules I listed about trying to look small and non-threatening. Every time Zoot growled he just tried harder. Unfortunately she just wouldn't get over his size and relax, so I moved along. I just thought it was so funny to see the massive dog try his hardest to look small, while the small dog tried her hardest to look big. That was actually my first IRL encounter with a St.B, he was so patient and engaging with Zoot, it's a shame she wouldn't warm up to him, he really seemed like a Saint of a dog.

St Bernards might be the sweetest, most tolerant dogs around. If you're looking for a big fluffy potato that loves to snuggle, this is your dog. They're very expensive to keep healthy and happy and can have a lot of medical issues but they're perfect for small kids and small animals. They'll seriously just flop down like ragdolls and watch the clouds roll by. A toddler can pull an ear, snatch the tail, grab a foot, and they won't even bat an eye over it. It's almost like they don't notice 🤣

Saint Bernard's are sweet dogs. I had a paper run 20 years ago and one jumped up on a knee high fence to show me he was there. He didn't bare teeth, growl, or bark, but he made his presence felt. I wasn't afraid, but his display of dominance is memorable.
