Geoff - Agree city or fan market is key to value. However, don't compare baseball to basketball or football. Baseball players have much longer careers that basketball and football. Acuna's value is driven by location (Atanlta), projected career, (Acuna can't buy liquor, can he? Judge is much older "rookie" in the #1 baseball market.) performance. Acuna is two way player with great stats. Super Stars: These players have value regards of year or location. Collect their parallels and #ed. every league has a player or two that are Super stars and hold or drive value regardless of city. Trout is example. Curry is almost a super star. Lebron and Jordan in basketball are Trout worthy. Lebron's value follows him to Heat, Cavs or Lakers. Brady value can't be hurt and great investment. (Mahomes might be next) Biggest factor to value: Rookie scarcity! Rookie cards will always trump value. Scarcity is huge. One reason Prizm Basketball is popular, is there is only 1 Black Finite. They did add the 1/1 Nebula last year. But unlike Spectra or Immac or Draft where a player has 30 plus 1/1s. 1# Rule of Investing: set up exit. Geoff, you haven't discussed setting goals on investment cards. I like Beal, but I think people should set an exit value if you invest. Same in your Acuna example. If I buy him today and they win the series, do I sell after the series? Do I sell during or do I hold? TV Time: Often part of the market they are in. However, watch rookie players value go up during the play offs. The best time to sell players is ofter during a play off run and or championship. Timing is key to value. Most cards value peaks with in weeks of release. I think this is important in understanding trends and long term investing. For example, if you are buying Shai Rookies, it made sense to wait a few weeks after each release to buy. You can watch prices peak and drop on players as new products release. Tips: Baseball collect hitters. Football collect QBs. Basketball collect playmakers. (Longer careers) Warning: Don't expect college fans to translate to value at the pro level. Ie. Tebow
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Johnny Kyson Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Interesting! I’ve been a collector/ investor for 42 years since I was 8-9 years old... Non stop 🛑. I love what’s happening to the market now... new sub ...new channel.
I look at Trout cards to be like Mantle cards one day. Many Years ahead, I’m thinking long term. What do you think? Is it wise to pick a player like Trout to strictly PC for the future? Thank You! Keep the vids coming!
I'm digging the baseball content (finally). I get that you're a basketball and football guy. You even seemed to steer the baseball conversations back to those sports. But... there are definitely some baseball-only collectors out there who would love a better mix. Having conversations with knowledgeable guys like this is awesome, especially if baseball isn't your forte. Also, it's "Acun-ya" not "Acuna" :) Love the show!! Thanks for all the solid content.
What are your thoughts on buying cards on eBay on a different continent. Eg basketball and baseball are not huge in the uk so I would think the card prices are cheaper here ?
Another great video. A bit of constructive criticism if I may: I love hearing your thoughts, hence why I watch all your videos. That said, if you’re going to “interview” a pro in the industry, it would have been nice to hear from him more. You often asked a question and then answered it without him commenting. I would have been interested to hear his thoughts more. All in all, thanks for the video!
Have a Large collection of "Luka Doncic" RC's and the Silver Prizm's seem to be holding the best value. Double or triple the value of Hyper Silvers which I really don't understand! The National Treasures RPA is even dropping in value compared to the Silvers. ??? (RPA NT /99) It's a strange market, any advise or speculation on the best time to sell off the Doncic collection?
I will add one simple rule i like. First I like players who have nicknames example Big Ben everybody knows who i’m talking about and when your out and about people never say Tom Brady or Drew Brees It’s Brady or Brees I have noticed when players start to be referred by last name only then they are starting to garner respect or by a flashy nickname. I noticed during last game on Sunday night football Baker Mayfield is almost there but there still calling him Baker Mayfield. I think he will be referred to as Baker but he’s just not there yet and if he doesn’t put up in the next couple weeks I would watch his card prices fall. All the legends have a swagger when there name is said by TV announcers and that’s when I notice first. Listening to TV announcers start saying there name. Sorry i’m not a Facebook fan but I would say you could start to see there nicknames start there as well and baseball just look at Big Papi, Jeter, Judge, Trout, lol 😂 😎
Geoff- great content! Assuming we sell on eBay or auction houses. What are your thoughts on being in the hole 10-15% for selling fees right out of the gate?
They are definitely worth grading... especially the polar bear. If you don't think you'll have a chance at PSA 10 or BGS 9.5, I'd probably flip them now while ROY is still in everyone's minds. I bought a ton of Alonso RCs to send off to PSA, so I'll have to wait to sell, but I assume his stuff will lag in the off season and then pick back up next year. If he hits another 50 next year... who knows??
Good information here. Jeff please slow down a little when you talk. Let Joe Davis speak when its his turn. Got the feeling you rushed him so much and when he talked you kept saying stuff like "ya, yup, right, etc.." Just calm down and let the guy talk
I do like your analysis.. and . Hope your having a blast at the Jimmy buffet brother!! I do have a question, for the 10 dollar card may be worth a hundred and just in general, and future giveaways where do you post the winners? Email maybe? Sorry prob a dumb question, and you probably have even mentioned it...your shows awesome and it jumped up to the top of my list. I like this kind of thing and my real life friends aren't into it.. which I do get... it it's fun... so they... are missing out
Hi Iceman, I think that athletes aren't concerned about their card values as much. Playing well for their respective team and becoming a superstar are more along their lines of thought. Professional athletes are rather obsessive in their approach, because they carry a very competitive nature; hate to lose. Take it easy bud.
Let me first start by saying trust me I'm not shilling for anything when I bring this up it's just something I've been thinking about lately - And i have a very minimal percentage of my net worth in sports cards. I'm just posing this question to a couple of content creators that I respect. But the whole existing / still playing modern player phase, particularly for rookie cards, just seems like it's a well known pump and dump year in and year out. But it's worse than that - are people really that stupid to hold these bags. Ill keep it at rookie cards for this rant only. But I just get baffled at the prices for unproven players nowadays within certain "good" Panini brands - I mean I get it but I don't. It just amazes me that a Luka doncic silver Prizm with a great grade can go for $500. I mean there's a million different Prizm colors, parallels, inserts.... and that's just Prizm! There's no guarantee there's a first mover advantage at this point just from the past couple of years with Prizm or that it will even last for 15 years. Hell there's barely enough proof Topps chrome basketball (past tense) will "be" Topps chrome in 15 years! But Prizm!? Panini messes up with everything! But then you've got 33 other panini products printing out millions of Luka doncic rookie cards, parallels, colors, etc. literally a million Luka rookie cards! What if one of those brands actually has a good idea for once? What's keeping people on the Prizm train? Have people ever thought about going out and getting a KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR (Lew Alcindor) rookie card? I mean there's only like 2,000 PSA graded Kareem 1969 Topps rookie cards! KAREEM is arguably the GOAT! Nba ALL time leading scorer! And you can get an average condition Kareem RC card for the same price as a good condition Luka that is a one of one million Luka rookie card (if that)?! Wtf! Do people have no idea about scarcity? Don't be like these people? Have some sense for the history of the game! Stop with the pump and dump! Or what about the other arguable vintage goats? Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain also have GOAT arguments - and they have only like 1,000 PSA graded rookie cards each - I mean yea their prices are high compared to Kareem but compared to Luka - WTF is going on! You can have a rookie card of a GOAT or of Luka - Luka is a player that looks pretty solid, probably a multiple year all star (I'm a Mavs fan), but he could tear his acl tomorrow - Or he could just not be the next lebron (he won't be) - I mean does it look like he has lebrons athleticism?!? It just amazes me no one is out there trying to preserve their investments - no one wants to invest in the GOLD STANDARD. It could be KAREEM Abdul Jabbar 1969 Topps (Lew Alcindor)! It could be the MJ 1986 fleer rookie card (there's 20k graded PSA's of those, although it is easily counterfeited). It could be Wilt or Russel RC's (1,000 PSA's of each of those). Respect the history of the game! Invest in the GOLD of sports cards! End the madness of the pump and dumps! Care about your investment long term. Goats are Goats forever! Kareem! MJ! Lebron! Russell! Wilt! Pick your goat!!!!
Boston team are excellent investments! One of the most passionate and wealthy fan bases. This is why I would put Tatum has best investment rookie in past few years. I like Tatum as much or more that Luka. Luka in Boston would have been "Legendary" Football - Brady is the 1# player in football. Highest value rookie card I know of. Also they produce excellent QBs in the hobby. Buy Pats in breaks and hoard away the QBs. Baseball do I even need to go here. Great place for players. Big Poppy Autos still pull cash.
I 1000, not a 100 but a thousand percent agree... numbered cards are better versus something without. I do like prizm silver but it was never the end all be all simply because of this.... price. I think they're a common ish type of line that is selling high end eight now but it's more of a fad. I'd rather go for different things such as national treasures all decade and some others... d ont get me wrong I do like prizm but the cost, the flip is higher risk than it should be. A regular card, Not autographed, low run, or a numbered run, or even a relic even.... given they are pretty decent for quality and I do like the look, and the chrome in general
like-ability in the big market is huge. Jeter and Mo Riveria are worth more than Bonds and A-rod b/c personality and market size. THey sure didn't hit the long ball as often. Look at endorsement deals too.....the more money Nike puts into a player the more popular his cards will get! Great videos. Enjoy being an over-seas parrot-head!

Enjoyed the conversation. FYI. A Tim Duncan BGS 8 sold on eBay for $50k last month.
House of Jordans you talking the pmg?
Jake M Yes.
Panini Prizm debuted in 2012 with massive success and the rumors of low silver runs immediately established Prizm
Great episode, but don’t forget about the international players that aren’t great but they are huge back home.

Do you know what are the factors that would make a sports card rise in value?
Is a numbered card 100/100 worth more with that number then 64/100 of the same card? What numbers in a numbered card is worth more?
