I feel bad for murph cause he obviously knows a lot about dnd but can never do anything cause his shit rolls 😂
RIGHT?? T^T
I wonder if it's the same for S2 with virtual dice hahahaha
Kugrash rolls so much better than Riz, that character was fucking cursed
Eventually he will learn throwing techniques. But if someone gets to good at it it will kill the fun.
But yea maybe he should learn just a little lol
So the reason Murph looks like he knows so much of DnD is because he DMs his own podcast or channel or something (I've been meaning to check it out lol) so sometimes you'll see Brennan's eyes flick to him sometimes on rule checks and stuff and Murph will like nod or rule check him, it's lowkey hilarious having a DM in the party
@@qualityshloimy Not Another DND Podcast
The fact that Murph could've named the roach 'Kugroach' and it still would've worked, but he deliberately went for 'Cockrash' is sending me
I reckon that's as much for narrative shit as it is for comedy. Kugrash is already very close to Kugrich (his old surname), but Kugroach is even closer, and I think that Murph knew Kug would just feel uncomfortable at being so close to that name in the stock exchange, especially after talking to David that day.
@@matsvee6746yeah that's my thoughts exactly - it's a dirty ass cockroach, it should have a dirty ass name

Astounded at Brennan's dedication: the runes transliterate to "Make America great again". Truly incredible.
Holy shit that's incredible
WHAT?!?!?
There are runes for the word America?
@@michaelbull1566 Not quite, it's not a translation where you use different words for things (i.e. "Inglaterra" meaning "England" in Spanish), but a transliteration where you take the individual letters and change them to be their equivalent in a different script. These are the runes that make the sounds in the English phrase "Make America great again", as opposed to being a translation of that phrase using Old Norse words.

Honestly I believe that bagel is so potent, the player can invent any bs say what it does and the DM will just approve it. But player will die
After binge watching Fantasy High and making it this far into The Unsleeping City, I'm coming to the realization that when Brennan says someone is "fucked up," it really does range anywhere from 'just about dead' to 'lightly scratched'
so true
I think that it means they have less then half of their max health
But yeah the range on the description "fucked up" is pretty big
@@MintylLilGuy He’s said it after 20 damage to something that then managed to soak 200 damage before dying.
To be fair, he does say it in different ways, like "yeah they're looking fucked up" with a calm voice vs "yeah, they're looking FUCK-ED UP" stressing it a lot.
But you are definitely right about him using the same words for a very broad range haha
He has a LOT of annoying verbal tics in combat - "hell yeah", "Jesus Christ", "iiiiincredible", all of which seem to mean "I need an impressive sound here to fill the dead space, so I'll throw one of these out regardless of what is actually happening."
Out of all the side conversations and small jokes in dimension 20 Lou and Emily talking about loaned dice as their kids and having a full dialogue about that is definitely the tops for me
Same same same “How’d my boy do?” “Ooooh that red 12 is mine!” Its so great

I'm pretty sure that if you incapacitate the DM, you win the encounter, right?
The thumbnail said, "Vampire Stockbrokers", and I wondered, "Is there any other kind?"
There really isn't...

I'm still amazed by Sinatra's Law. Such a great name, a perfect name for what it stands for
Also, Siobhan just flat out figuring out what it meant last episode was pretty awesome, given that Brennan only said "Sinatra's Law" as a throwaway comment while quickly describing the very legalese Imperial Axiom ages ago.

During Misty's Big Show, he got mad confused and tapped out mentally after a while which was hilarious. He was genuinely like "😒" for the second half of the fight.
He fully lost it when Brennan just did a power word kill inside an anti-magic barrier ,that was just uncalled for, he was like "power word, kill????!!! Really?"

Very much a "Yeah, that's nice; what's your point? (pleasedon'tkillme)" kind of energy to it
The sad thing is it's a first level spell, not a cantrip
I fucking love how Brennan just makes an enemy have "powerword: kill" against a party who only has 5th level spells and thinks that's fair.
@tomasmanuelrodriguezretola5023 I don't think he finds it fair, just funner
@@havenperry9426 I know, also I understand Brennan for making his main bad guy strong enough to not risk someone coming up to him and getting an insane Nat20 and one shooting him before the climax
I freaking love how Brennan is a champion-level DM, making all kinds of extremely creative backstory and characters ("Dean is gone in two rounds... Sometimes as a DM you do a bunch of work and it doesn't get seen, that's okay.")...
...but the *one* time he gave the players a powerful edible artifact, it didn't occur to him that they'd really want to eat it.
nah mans just has writers block about a bagel
It’s not writer’s block-it’s good writing. In the same sense that this campaign has a dichotomy between possibility and reality, there exists a dichotomy between what you describe and what you don’t describe. What you explicitly describe as a DM has a concrete definition, and inherent limitations. What you don’t describe is up to the imagination of the audience, which is infinite.
H.P. Lovecraft used this technique of describing *around* something that is truly horrific and eldritch. His forgotten horrors can’t be perceived or described without simultaneously destroying that which perceives or describes it.
Brennan is tapping into the infinite when he describes the bagel. He is using philosophical language similar to that of Taoism. Brennan, as a DM with a mortal mind, cannot possibly describe to you, a player with a mortal mind, what the bagel does because it is infinite and our minds are finite.
The bagel is enlightenment. It is omniscience. It’s everything, everywhere… all at once
"Rats honk when you throw them!" -Brennan

@@TamaraWiens It's supposed to be difficult, it's the bloody big bad boss fight. I think Brennan is in fact a master of battle design: he is able to consistently design battles that actually feel like our intrepid heroes have a risk of losing, yet are always manageable in the end. @@eoincampbell1584 Mr.TimestampMan is the God of speed
We're not invoking his name because we know his power

The critical role cast STILL rides Mercer for his mispronunciation of sigil as "siggle" five years ago and yet Brennan gets away with it with no repercussions whatsoever?
It’s because they’re longtime D&D nerds and they’re conflating its pronunciation with the Planescape city Sigil which *is* pronounced “siggle”
@@Malkav65 I promise that's not true.
@@CJMGalaxy It actually is! Planescape's city is very famously pronounced Siggle, to the point that natives sneer at idiot tourists who don't know that. A lot of that generation of nerds never heard the word out loud, only reading it in books, so they assumed that was the correct pronunciation.
@@kevinomalley1090 I think he is referencing some talks machina episode or maybe it was a c2e2 panel. But somewhere along the way Matt said something about doing a lot of reading as a kid and never heard it pronounced out loud and never been corrected. I don't know if he was joking or if that was true it was a bit hard to tell.
Google also says "siggle" is just the american pronunciation
I've never been more stressed by a dnd game in my life I'm quite literally sittin on the edge of my seat fidgeting like a crack fiend
Brennan's combat scenes are the stuff of mad genius. From lunch room corn monsters to stock exchange vampire mechs. What a ride.
Still fucks me up that all the vampires and Moses had Legendary Resistance...
I mean, liches and vampires do get it.
@@GZilla311 yeah the cr 21 lich and the cr 13 vampires fighting level 9 characters this is the equivelent of sending mike tyson at a 6th grade classroom
@@johnpalmer5065 To be fair most of the times I've seen Brennan design an encounter that is dramatically more difficult than anything that came before he has added a puzzle element to them that makes the fight easier (Pizza Rat and spoilers for Fantasy High: the prizes at the arcade and the time watch they got after one of the fights) and/or has given the first character to die outright a means to return to the fight as well as an important piece of character development and maybe some insight into the fight.
There were probably some choices that could have been made in preparation, such as Ricky going to the stadium or calling Alejandro earlier, that may have had some influence over the fight and it's also plausible that Brennan intended for the ritual to be almost impossible to stop for the purpose of making the narrative more dramatic.
I also think that his preference to focus on single encounters over dungeon crawls necessitates some degree of compensation, as there are no smaller fights to drain the players' resources and spell slots.
@@casanovafunkenstein5090 There was this sudden interest with the bell during the animate objects cast. I think there may have been something there, just like there has been in all previous fights (Santa, La Gata, Pizza Rat, the Golem...)
Holy heck, props to whoever is scoring this, it's really well done!!
I Wish Kug would have bit the bullet and used the Bagel. Hear me out: When you eat the bagel, your body is destroyed but your essence becomes part of all things in all realms of New York. Kug could have had a moment of ultimate cosmic intervention, and disrupted the ritual from an ephemeral level.
And what better Karmic way to redeem his former rat-broker self that doing it to Protect the American Dream from the power of greed *IN* the NYSE.
Yeah, Murph would have had to have sacrificed his character, but the story part of it, and the biggest plot F**ck You would have been glorious.
But what about Wally :(

Damn, paralysis and stunning frequently, a Power Word Kill, every enemy getting legendary actions and resistances... Holy shit, Brennan.
Pretty sure this would be a CR 30 encounter even if he lowered the HP of the monsters.
I think brennan needed the fight to be possible but he also needed the ritual to go off.

It's always a blast when reserved and protective characters lose their cool! Such an incredible moment!
I feel like the Hangman got reincarnated into Ricky's ax and I'm pretty sure he would be exhilarated about that
"I've realized that holy grail detergent is not a spell"
I feel like since sofia is drunk all the time any vampire that bites her should get drunken disadvantage afterwards
Thanks for putting these on youtube guys this is such a heart warming series
Idk about dnd and less about making a show but...when it's realized thay Rowan can't animate the door by Robert, there's a huge trust exchange. Brennan realizes he messed up and tells Siobhan the deal, she, honestly, destresses that there's very little for her to possess as otherwise, brennan makes a suggestion that could help her/ hurt him and also gives it the same class as the door, and Siobhan trusts that Brennan is being fair.
I only mean... to a very very basic player like myself, that seems like a very annoying situation but theo8gh understanding and communication could, potentially, save the experience. And that's what i love.
