    It's just due to the fact that if your wrench happens to touch the body or engine (ground), nothing will happen if you are disconnecting or reconnecting the ground (-) wire. In this case, you are touching together 2-negative terminals. There is no "electrical pressure" (voltage) difference so there will be no current flow. On the other hand, if you disconnect the positive first, and your wrench touches ground, now you have completedd a + to a - and current will flow. Burned hand or Batt Kaboom

  • @deividhac
    @deividhac 11 років тому +1

    the positive cable holds a charge....power..... you could errantly make contact with the engine ground producing electricity......in the reverse..putting it on first...to be safe for it possible that while moving things around you can accidentally touch it to a ground source

    I have an 01 Camry,4cyl, started up,run good,alternator output charge 14.7,after about 5 to 10 minutes,car started to shake. I checked the output charging voltage,12.5 to 13 volts. So I unplug the connector at the back of the alternator, I checked each one for voltage,I found all three wires,have 12 volts. It should be only one wire that has 12 volts,right? The other two, are signal and ground,right? Can you explain ? Thanks

    Hello mate, I see 14.7V directly from alternator but 13.4V at battery on idle. When I connect + of multimeter to + of battery and - of multimeter to the + bracket of alternator I see -1.5V which confirms the appr. diff between 14.7 and 13.4. Where is the problem? I sandpapered all terminals. And the + cable harness loom between alternator and battery is quite well isolated and very hard to reach as it passes between exhaust manifold and engine. Your help will be appreaciated.

    I took my drained battery to AutoZone they said I needed a new battery and could not recharged it becuase they said the battery was no good bad cell. I had left the lights on. So I had to buy a charger and charged it myself. That was two years ago the battery is still working. Bad cell and all.

    I get a message from the computer "no fuse" and the alternator doesn't charge. Measured at the battery. But it's so hidden under hoses and stuff that I have to disassemble half of the accesories to get a reading of the ampermeter. If there is a relay or fuse for that how must it be labeled ?!

      You can check your amperage before and then pull the radio fuse and if the amperage goes up after pulling the fuse, you know that your radio is your problem.

    I own a Nissan Maxima 04 with a new Optima Yellow Top battery.
    With the car off it reads 12.6v, with the car on it reads 14.1v.
    Here´s the thing, once I start driving, like in a busy road where I need to stop every two seconds the voltage starts to drop ´till 12.3 when the driving voltage was 13.8.
    I don´t know if its because the heat but it starts to decrease from 13.8 ´till 12.3 or lower.
    It only goes up if I hit the road again (with speed) and it won´t go up to 13.8, more like 12.8v.
    So does the alternator works or is starting to fail?

    • @kensimon4478

    • @kensimon4478
      @kensimon4478 9 років тому

      LOV2XRL8RL did autozone say the alternator was fine? or did you take it to another shop?
      I charged my battery up yesterday and after a charge and the car running my portable meter reader shows it's at about 12.59V when running....

    • @LOV2XRL8RL
      @LOV2XRL8RL 9 років тому

      +Sir Jay I went to AdvanceAutoparts. The thing is when I start up the car it reads 14.1-14.3
      While driving it goes 13.6 -13.8 and in a stop it goes 12.6 - 12.8 (idle)

    • @kensimon4478
      @kensimon4478 9 років тому

      LOV2XRL8RL mine doesn't get to 14v. highest is 13v...
      i have a charger and will recharge it for few weeks to study it as i diagnose it. i'll go too auto zone again and see what they'll say. las time i was there they said it was too low for them to pinpoint the problem.
      also the positive was a little lose but tightening it didn't really make a difference..
