Not only is this gentleman a superb artist he is also a superb teacher. So rare that both go together, it is a privilege to see his work and receive his instruction. Thank you Bill.
Finally!!! Thirty-five years into this, some detailed information on the equipment you see all time. The Step-Ladder easel for one. Why is there no information, article, design plans, whatever on this great easel idea? Bill started it and Ross copied him. They both moved on to their own easel design later. But this easel is a great idea. The spatter box too! Wet-on-wet folks want to know how to build this easel. The "Head" he talks about mounting to the top of this step-ladder is the whole secret. He and ross both had a similar easel head design. I guess I'll have to figure it out and post it myself. Great video. This really shows the difference between the originator and the apprentice. I always thought so.
bull...bill didn't invent the technique its hundreds of years old and bob was taught by bill and bill literaly handed bob the paintbrish and passed the baton to bob...also bob's show wasn't about painting, bob had the ability to help people relax and help stress go away, his gentle easyoing personality and induce relaxation is what made him popular, bob's show didn't become so widely popular because of the paintings...it wasn't about painting...bill's show was about painting, he was prob a much better painter but bob was a master of personality and people...bill was loud, aggressive bob was the complete opposite, bob did his own thing...forget the painting, bill didn't invent anything, he copied painters from hundreds of years earlier.
So true, although I think Bob was quite talented. I think he did simple paintings so people of any skill level can do it. Bill does that as well but Bill goes into more advance ways
I ‘m French a total beginner and I don t understand why I don t get that beautiful fade you get . Please help me . Where is the problem ? I prepare my canvas with magic white but paints don t blend together.
When I originally watched Bill’s “magic” series I always thought he used to say “matterbox” come to find out it was “rattlebox” again I was 3 at the time (WGBH was airing “Magic of oil painting” reruns around 1984 - 2 PM if I recall)
People saying one is better than the other didn't get the message in every episode. You paint for the enjoyment of it, talent should never come into play
Come to realize after beginning watching the few I can find of Mr. Alexander yes his paintings are the best in this style. Can anyone in 2020 here help me find his videos to paint with him. I am a beginner and have all needed to begin. I viewed one of a vase and fruits done on black canvas with alizarin crimson being the color over black. Now can’t seem to locate again. I’m in the U.S. northern calif.
Will there be more of this series? Bill had more time to explain the situation rather than the half hour timeslot. He was able to make a better painting in the end.
It's very sad that Bob Ross copied him in everything. I am astonished that Bob even copied his "moto's". Bill is a fantastic artist. It's a pity that he did not have the fame he deserved.
@@seeburgm100a Sure, and I guess I’m a plagiarist for wearing clothes made by a different brand, right? Right? 🙄 Bill didn’t create the wet on wet technique just so that only he could use it, he just got salty that Bob found a way to make it viral.
@@GameReviewsXX We could "argue" this all day long and we won't change each other's minds. But I stand behind what I said. Bill taught Bob, Bill obviously wanted Bob to continue on. But Bob mimicked. He didn't use what he learned to grow. I say he plagiarized because everything he did was a copy. Right down to phrases used. I would have had more respect for Bob had he named his show using "The Bill Alexander Method of wet on wet".. or if he had just grown on his own to be his own talent. I paint and I've watched them all.. an example of what I'm saying is Kevin Hill. His early work is very heavily influenced by Bill and Bob.. but if you look at his videos now he is his own man. He has developed his own style to another level.. Bill was probably salty watching the mimic up there capitalizing on his exact style. SO there you have it.. we can each think what we want. BTW I own a few of Bill's early large still life paintings not made for TV, they are marvelous. Bill was a true artist beyond what we saw on Television. Bob could never compete on that level IMO. Cheers!
My grandfather was a student of Mr Alexander in the 70s when he used to teach all over the country
A lot of Bill's episodes got erased and reused. This was a better learning experience for the beginning artist.
Thank you for sharing these. Can't get enough of Bill. The REAL artist behind the curtain.
Not only is this gentleman a superb artist he is also a superb teacher. So rare that both go together, it is a privilege to see his work and receive his instruction. Thank you Bill.
Bill Alexander is the ONLY oil-painting fellow I've ever found watchable and recall him from my very young years back in the 70's. Thanks
Wow, what a treasure! A more youthful Bill than I’ve seen. Thank you for posting this!
Very good example and great painting luck naturally you are especially tichel Thanks you for your time

Have come up with how to make the head on the step ladder?
WHEN YOU FIGURE IT OUT,PATENT IT.
MAKE A MILLION HAPPY BUCKS!
How did you do it?

My left ear enjoyed this very much. My right ear watched in horror as it could not hear it.
Even though he taught Bob Ross you really see how much more talented Bill is, this painting is incredible. You can feel the violence of the storm.

He also had 30 extra minutes R-tards
The problem is he cant speak right
Thank you, thank you for sharing this great video with us.
I watched him growing up and he inspired me to enjoy art my entire life! I hold him in great respect as a teacher and an artist.

His phrases and expressions are artworks in themselves........'Hypnotising the canvass' is one of many, that makes me giggle.

Thank u so much. You make painting so easy. Blessings
Here he describes and shows his "Bang Box", brush cleaning can set-up, and step-ladder-easel setup. Genius.
He is so Awesome. His Paintings look so real and not like an Orniment with Circus Colors.

Love it learn a lot from you, thank you
You are so wonderful it looks so easy I hope I could do it so easily
Je suis vraiment en admiration bravo pour votre talent
Bill Alexander is the Ip-Man of the wet-on-wet technique. ^_^
People saying one is better than the other didn't get the message in every episode. You paint for the enjoyment of it, talent should never come into play
I would like to see more episodes in this series. Bill had a full hour to explain how he created his magic.
This man was from another planet
Thank you once again...........
You notice Bill had more of a variety of subjects vs. Bob Ross - Ross was 80% of the time "sky, mountains, evergreens, water". Both are great artists
TY Todd this is gold man. I see Bill with different easels and I love the Ladder one the best. I wonder if Bob Ross got the idea from Bill ?
Bob ross learned to paint from Bill Alexander.

BEFORE BILL STARTS WORKING,NOTICE THE MIDDLE FINGER ON HIS LEFT HAND. RESULT OF HOURS OF HOLDING THAT PALETT. WOW!
4:19 That is the brrrrush... :)

Sorry, I don't have anymore.
Did you hear that ladies? He does it for sooo long!
Großartig
Perfect.

Taught Bob Ross all he knew.....
When I see any of his vids I always think the comments are about Bob Ross
What??

All these people claiming Bob “stole” anything from Bill are the laughing stock of this community.
Bob was not an original. He was a plagiarist.. plain and simple.
