At 5:58 "And you can always do this almighty stroke!! There is one stroke, and that's the almighty stroke. And all that fiddling, that is for the birds..." Hilarious. He's like the Mister Magoo of the painting world!!
This man, along with Ross, POPULARIZED an art form. Wet on wet was developed back in the 15th century when oil painting was developed. It is neither Alexander, nor Ross, who invented or developed this technique.
Many are commenting in other pictures how his simple strokes make a wonderful masterpiece...and I certainly agree. I took art classes in college and the teacher always taught us to keep the wrist relaxed and make sweeping strokes. It certainly seems to pay off.
Just wonderful! It is like I believe he said, some educated painters who do not like the wet-in-wet style like that of Alexander or Ross, but their principles still hold! The light-on-dark isn't new, and the brushstrokes are very similar to the formgiving technique used in reqular drawing. Alexander is like living energy, whilst Ross is pure calm. The music makes me giggle, too! Thanks for posting this Mr. Markel!
It's good that you taped these episodes because even the Alexander Art company doesn't have them. They did a Q&A livestream and I asked if all Bill Alexander episodes were accounted for. Unfortunately the Magic of Oil Painting is among the shows with large gaps in its library. In decades past it was common for networks would reuse tape and that entailed erasing whatever was on it. KOCE was no exception and apparently they owned those shows not the Alexander company. By the way they addressed the fact that fans are posting episodes and they're apparently fine with it. They appreciate that fans like you have helped preserve these lost episodes.
I read somewhere these shows were wiped (recorded over) by the contracted studio [I’m surprised KOCE-TV didn't try to save the "Magic" series from being erased]
Dinosar Bob Ross was great at what he did, but I agree Bill has a much better range. Nothing wring with sticking with what you are good at, but artists are people you expect to try new things.
Such a gentle man who spent his life making people smile.
We miss you Bill.
The music in the end is just like an old...and i mean old arcade game....such nostalgia....

@@r.f.richardsonjr5691 Yes, and as Mike Ivy said: William Alexander perfected it. Bob Ross immortalized it.
@@KhaidenTajigen Monet, VanGogh, Sorolla, Sargent, and even Picasso, perfected it. Alexander and Ross, only popularized it.
Wild man Bill Williams!! Every century has their wild Bill's! Love this man!!
You meant "Alexander", friend)
7:50 “you better become round” 😂

26:46 music sounds like it's out of some kind of horror movie
The Magic of Worn Out, 40 Year Old UMatic Tapes

@Andro mache what year did it become acceptable for women to cheat on their husbands? wut

This always still seems easier than drawing (or painting people, also perhaps animals), and even learning guitar...
Hope you post more of these! These are great!

here we go, the Bob Ross hairs x)
👍🏼👍🏼🤗😍😲
What Month, Date and Year was Aired?
Did anyone else here that sneaky attempt of a British accent also ALMIGHTY STROKE!
Good stuff. Bill was better at a greater range of subjects than his student Ross.

I always loved when Bill painted still-lifes
Absolutely , Bill was much superior . Bob was very good but nowhere near Bill's potential .
Bill or William?
Did you actually put a banknote in an envelope and mail it to pay for things back in the day?
I think this guy just straight up gets off from painting XD
This guy is so fun. I like Ross too but he's too soft spoken. I need to learn the almighty stroke.
What now brown cow? 🤣
This dude be painting plums with a fan brush ….!
Fantastico ❤👏👏
The music is terrible
How dare you have the last name Ross saying this about Bill Alexander. It’s the 70s, man. The 70s on PBS, at that! What do ya expect? 😛
