Have you ever built an entire system of public transportation only to have your citizens not use it? Frustrating, we know! Hopefully this tutorial helps you solve some of those problems, and gets the ridership up for your bus routes, trains, and metro!
Worse for most times for me is that there will be cims that are waiting for a bus and there are 300 of them, but they're going to a place that they can easier walk to. Once they have decided to take a form of transport, they don't want to do anything else. What I've had to do is make the stops even further apart AND not near where the metro et al stations are, just so that if their destination is within walking distance, they'll walk rather than take the bus for three blocks. Access Only streets would also help: you can make a bus stop that is long enough to let some busses backstuff each other onto a road without blocking traffic (other than other busses).
Sam Bur: "During disaster evacuation times with an intentionally bad and far bunker systems, my traffic flow is 75%. Now that's probably a good number for most of you-." Audience, most of whom has hundred hours of playtime: I feel attacked I have almost 200 and still finds a lot of things that can be optimized in my city :'D
I dont find this tutorial very helpfull so Im going to post my own here: So first we should take a look on where the cims are going. Usually the cims are going from residental zones to industrial/office zones and from residental to shopping zones. - From my experience, shopping zones tend to get more cims going in them ( around 2x or 3x more than ind. ), especially if you compare them to industrial/office zones. That means that shopping zones recquire more public transportation options. Second thing to look at is how to plan public transportation. It is not as simple as just doing a bus line from residental to shopping - like yeah technically it would work, but it would by no means be good way. What you need to have is first of different kind of transportation, mainly depending on the capacity - So you need light transport, medium transport, and the heavy transport - I will explain. - Light transport mainly buses However they are for kinda collecting the cims in some smaller area, transporting them to some transfer stations or hubs in the area. The area should not be bigger than few junctions and the lane should have less than 8 stops ( in one dirrection if you are not doing loop lines ). - Medium transport - I preffer trams ( but you need snowfall dlc for them ) So you may say, that trams are basically buses but worse, because you need aditional infrastructure, but that is not true. Key to having them working succesfully is separating them from the roads - because, if they are on roads, they can get stuck in traffic jams and sometimes even cause them. That is why I recomend running them separatly on tracks ( only for trams ) on the side of the road, ideally underpassing every main road ( 4 and 6 lane roads with high traffic use ). This makes them into really good medium capacity transport to move cims around city. Make the lanes from residental zones to shopping zones and connect bus lines to some of their stations, so that they can pick up cims from the bus lines / drop cims to the bus lines. - Heavy transport - I use metro Mainly because it is fast and even less dependent on trafic flow + it has quite high capacity. Main point of this transport is to connect the bussiest places and relieve stress from medium transport. Keep in mind to have each line running in it's own tunels and stations, so they dont block each other. I would recomend getting some modded vehicles of your choice, because the ones that the vanilla game offers have quite low capacity. Now what you need to have second are hubs, not one central hub as the video suggest, but several smallers where metro lines cross each other making a transfer station there ( I recomend getting these 2 or 3 platform metro stations from workshop, but placing 2 normal ones should work as well ) and having some tram line stop close too. Also as goes for normal roads, dont rely only on one line to the area, have multiple enterring from different places, so that the cims are distributed across more lines - by that you prevent overcrowding of one line / station or atleast reduce it happening. It is shame that I can't really show you pictures, because that would make explaining easier but what can one do. Also if you are interrested, I have around 16 000 cims using my public transportation, but that seems to be the maximum, because I have it like this from like 60k pop. and now with 100k it is still the same. Anyways hope this helps atleast a bit.

If you have hundreds of people waiting for buses does that effect the economy or usage of public transport? Have seen Cims seeming waiting days for a bus. Increasing the bus budget (number of buses) isn't always helpful.
What I don't get is how far from each other the bus stops must be. You are talking about 4 blocks. But is this a block as in one square? Or this a undefined sized residential block?
@@jsomhorst It doesn't matter how many squares lol it's up to you with how many "Blocks" you have and how spaced out they are! Then you'll be able to space those stops out :)
@@MrWhitesoxfalife Now that is a more workable answer. Some Fairlife Milk doesn't have a definition of size for "Block" apparently, so that is way too vague.
Hopefully a few top Cities Skylines You Tubers see this, as they never seem to make their public transport efficient enough using these tools. You should have discussed the magnifying glass tab and the ability to increase the budget and thus the amount of vehicles on each line.

Interesting, but not deep enough in my opinion. Would need to see some real situation example in your cities. With that video, which is pretty straightforward, we still don't know how to correctly place transport district. Thanks for it anyway though.
No real correct way of placing a transport district or hub, That's truly up to you and where you want it. As long as you're incorporating multiple forms of transportation in one area and making it a hub that brings everything like Buses, Trains, Metro, and so forth to one location it'll help get people to ride different forms of transport when they reach your hub and try to get to wherever they're trying to go :)

Paradox, you guys should make a realistic DLC, it would have real life disasters like car crashes and more. I think it would be cool. Edit (You do not need a DLC, you can just add more details like car crashes) it might be a bad idea but for some it is not
A game is a simplification of real life mechanics. To allow all the complicated calculations to take place, you need to take shortcuts and unfortunately “realism” is way too complex

Pickle Does not Game! Yeah I do have desires for the same kind of stuff but I think that should be left to the modding community as it would take a lot of resources and would potentially need a total rework of a lot of major functions, which in turn would ruin the modding community (which is HUGE in this game) and also break everyone’s saved games from the past years of the game being out. It’s a great idea no doubt but going to the devs for it isn’t the place to do it. I would suggest bringing this up on the forums and see if any modders have ideas on how to implement this.

Really enjoying the tutorials! One idea for a future tutorial would be for water in the Map Editor. I can never quite get my rivers to stop creating massive waves that makes them overflow and tree placement is also something I’d love to learn more about!
this is easy. put the game on fast forward and wait until the waves vanish. if its still leaking out, edit the terrain around it. But waiting does the trick 90% of the time.
Mister Gunsen I’ve tried waiting and it seems that it’s more likely that you just can’t have downhill rivers. I would love to know any tips or tricks for this as I love using terrain party to get realistic maps and then altering them in photoshop.
I’ve tried rocks and banks but I am really unsure how to tame the water when going from high elevation to low elevation gradually without waterfalls and flattening all of the terrain to one level
