@@JohnGlasscock I like to watch and had watched these before I got mine and still had a little difficulty with the m.2 installation it just wouldn't slide into the slot but eventually after trying it 3 times it slid into the slot and now I got the wd_black sn850 2 Tb in mine and it's great but I love the videos you make

Extremely informative and to the point. I actually managed to insert my SSD into the wrong end of the socket on the first try, but the fact that the notch on the other end didn't line up with a screw hole was an indication that I had messed up. Seeing how the spacer and retaining screw worked in this video got me turned around the right way!
I inserted mine correctly but it stayed elevated from one end is that normal ?
@@barcachamp4217 a little late but yes, the part that clicks in goes in the lower part, and it'll angle upwards at the end with the screw.

Worked perfectly. Short and to the point. Don't be worried though if your SSD bounces in the socket, it's not a tight fit, hence the need to screw it down.

I paid $120 over retail on StockX in January. Yes it’s over retail but I’ve also used/enjoyed it almost every day since then and more importantly stopped worrying about missing out on all the phantom “drops” that seemed to sell out in 5 seconds. Easy.

The only real difference between the brands is price man. You just gotta make sure it's to Sonys specifications. Samsung now sells their 980 pro with a built-in heatsink as well

Thank you for providing an informative, concise instructional video with as few words possible. During your ≈3 1/2 minute video, you were able to give step by step instructions, from start to finish. Whereas many of your compatriots clocked in at more than double that time.
Also, kudos for demonstrating various chip installations for those who opted for a different chip set from WD, both with and without an attached heatsink. Having been a big fan of Western Digital since the late ‘70s, it was an easy choice for me to make in determining which SSD manufacturer to go with.
The only challenge I faced throughout the entire installation process was removing the mounting screw prior to chip installation. That screw had been overtightened during the PS5 assembly, so I was concerned the screwdriver might strip the screw, complicating the upgrade process. Fortunately, the screw finally loosened, and the rest of the installation went through without any other complications.
So hopefully, this extra 2 TB of storage will be enough…at least for a little while.

Do you need to update this SSD before install? Im trying to find a ssd that needs no update because o don't have a cpu to update and don't really know how.

same here it wasn't hard at all to put the ssd in but there are videos out of people that claim to build pcs but found this to be hard and I find it hard to believe they build pc's

Is your 980pro still running good, I heard yesterday that a fee people are having problems, I put the SSD Black sn850 in my basket and buy the time I tried to buy it went from delivery the 30th to out of stock back in stock from the 9th Oct to the 20 ,Nov I couldn't believe how quick the black SSD are selling I was gutted so might buy the 980pro just need to know it's running good my heatsink is here 1st October

2nd best SSD you can buy it sells out so quick in the UK, the firecuba 300 is the best but it £199 just for the SSD were on Amazon I found a black sn850 for £144 but delivery from 9th Oct to 20 Nov no chance iam paying now and waiting so long so I found a 980 Samsung pro and the heatsink are sold out for ages on Amazon so I looked on eBay good feedback got heatsink for £9.64 on Amazon it was £16 so yeah happy I found a heatsink and I meant the 1tb black and firecuba my bad
@@backwoodstherapy the patches that are now downloaded are nearly a 3rd smaller than they used to be so eventually they won't take up as much space I think 1tb is enough, I have over a hundred games but I only want so many on my SSD but if you like to use the space go for it

the cm1 heatsink from bequiet is also very nice, and fits inside the ps5 and is suited for 2280 dual and single sided ssd's.

@@ruukusanla not better i think, more like it does the same, but a lot cheaper, and it gives you some more ssd's to choose from, sellers are now upping the prices on the ssd's with integrated heatsinks, but the prices on the same ssd's without a integrated heatsink are staying the same, it saved me a 100 bucks, and the ssd's with integrated heatsinks are hard to get also now, i could bought the wd black sn850 1tb with heatsink for 320 euro's, but the sn850 without heatsink was around 175 euro, the heatsink costs 12 euro's, and it's performing really well for me, no signs of overheating or performance drops.

@JonSushi yes you can have both installed. PS5 and PS4 games can be stored on both too, but you just can't play PS5 games from the external HDD, only PS4 games.
Yes, I would recommend having an external HDD for PS4 games, rather than waste space on your SSD. I have the Seagate PS4 HDD, 1TB. works fine. PS4 games will run straight from it.

Just make sure lift slightly upward on the connecting end of your SSD 👌🏻

It was actually easy for me and I have no experience with them. I bought the WD Black 1tb without the heatsink and just bought a heatsink separately.

I opted for the WD Black SN850 with heat sink - it was a little more expensive, but it was worth it. Your video was excellent - after watching it two or three times, I felt confident enough to do my own installation. It went smoothly, and I am happy with the extra 1Tb of storage space.

The wd have been burning out in 4-6months max with no customer service to respond. I'm glad I went with Samsung. Four of us upgraded and I was the only one to get a Samsung. Others have the wd. Already having issues. One went out in a month.

I was planning on buying the WD one but Western digital has always failed me in the past. i've bought hds from them before and they all have lasted up to 8 months to a year. I changed to seagate and their hds have lasted many years for me. but I couldn't find any near me and I didn't want to order it online so I went with the samsung 980 pro with heatsink. so far so good. i think the only reason the WD ones are more expensive is the name brand and because the design on it makes it look better. but it isn't.
@@bobthebuilder9267 basically he's saying the WD (western Digital) are not great. for me WD has always failed me. they last any where from 5 months to a year. I started buying seagate and those have last me a long time, many many years actually. sadly i was unable to get the seagate one so I went for a samsung. so far it's doing great.
Almost impossible to get the heatsink version of the SN850 right now, so I bought the one without and installed a heatsink myself. Hope it performs the same.

NASCompares did a great video on a bunch of SSDs, on paper the seagate firecuda 530 is the best SSD you can get. Just make sure you get one that's 1tb or more as they perform better.

Couple months behind most channels making this video, guess you didn't get in the beta lol I didn't either. Have had a 2TB Firecuda 530 sitting on my table for a month and finally installed it yesterday morning lol got a Warship Pro heatsink, fit perfectly and running smoothly! Played a 2hr session of Returnal flawlessly (teleports are even faster than internal ssd!) and tried Rift Apart for a bit, no issues

The SSD gets formatted once you turn on the console with the SSD installed for the first time. Thanks for your support! 😊

I had mine with the heatsink installed sitting by PS5 in a ziplock bag, the morning it went live I checked & on the 3rd try the update was there, did update & installed SSD, now I literally have triple the games on my console already!!!
So 9 games then xD

Thanks to this video I just got the public version of the update which finally allows you to expand the SSD storage which I needed so desperately I have so much PS5 games that take up too much space so I got a Western digital M.2 SSD 4 TB 😍 Which is the highest SSD storage capacity the PS5 supports 😁👍 After I installed it very carefully and slowly I was able to format it I couldn't believe it only took a few minutes to set it up now I have 3,000 gigs available 😍 I can finally install the PS5 exclusive games I desperately wanted to play and some third party PS5 games 😍 You deserve the diamond play button let's help him reach it Like this comment if anyone agree?
I am hoping that the PS5 will support higher capacities as they become cheaper in the future :D

I don't think that is possible to increase the internal SSD capacity limit unless The PS5 motherboard supports more than 4 terabytes At this point Sony needs to allow us to play PS5 games directly from a external SSD And I heard it's currently not possible Even if you have the fastest external SSD🤦♂️ Sony hasn't allowed the PS5 to create a partition directly on the external SSD and allow PS5 games to run directly inside the external SSD that is the reason why the PS5 has a USB type-C port in the front which allows us to use a external SSD so for now I guess we have to wait for Sony to release a official software update And let us play PS5 games from a external SSD That is why Sony allowed people to upgrade the internal SSD storage capacity Which you can only fit up to 4 TB so for now you have to wait until they release a new software update that will allow us to play PS5 games from your own external SSD 😢

So far nope I'm so happy right now I was able to install some PS5 games I have been dying to play and a loading time is insanely fast or should I say instantaneous 😍👍 It has the same level of loading speed just like the internal NVME SSD 😍👍 I was somehow lucky I didn't spend that much money Even though it was slightly expensive because it was on sale on Amazon during Cyber Monday 2021😍👍 So I'm glad I bought it 😉👍 I seriously recommend the WD black NVMe SSD for PS5 If you have the money for it I recommend you buy it You won't be disappointed 😉👍
