- This is the second part of the discussion of developing Exercises for the treatment of tics. In this video I am focusing on Motor Tics, which are tics that primarily involve external, observable movements of the body. This can include arms, legs, and head as well as movements of the torso and abdomen (the “trunk” of the body). Movements of the eyes, lips, ears, scalp, and face are also mostly considered to be Motor Tics. Once we are inside the mouth or nose, however, we begin to refer to them as Vocal Tics (because we mostly recognize them by the sounds they make).
I try to focus on the first part of developing Exercises for Motor Tics, which is understanding the tic in depth. This means knowing which parts of the body, which muscles or tendons, and what the sequence of actions is like. We usually find that tics actually have a sequence of movements and we may accidentally focus on the ending part of the tic sequence rather than the beginning. However, if we understand the sequence well and find the beginning, we may get a better result by focusing our Exercises on that rather than the end.
