Because red paint absorbs blue light and others which are shorter in wavelength, the more energy it absorbs compared to other colours means the red pigment in the paint is eroded faster.
A great way to spend a Sunday morning. Some of the display cars were so sweet, I couldn't decide which was my favourite. My dad had a 100E Anglia in the early 60s. The colour scheme was two tone blue and I do like the two tone on that model (but not on all cars). He wrote it off in an accident one night whilst picking my brother up from the pictures, as he had missed the last bus. I flew in an RAF VC10 from Northern Ireland in 1977. I was coming to Blighty for R&R leave, mid-tour. I must say that it was the most comfortable flight that I have been on, and so smooth. At the time the aircraft was older than the civvy flights that I had been on. It was a million times better than the flight out from Germany in the back of a Lockheed C130, you may know that as a Hercules, a cargo and certainly not a passenger plane.
As a former graphic designer with a degree in advertising, I loved that RAC book with the great old ads. It's sure a different world... That little Renault is delightful!
That was a really good video. Had a bit of everything. A great attendance at Crewe, the Lada estate and Anglia estate would be my pick of the show. Good to see your Anglia on the road, such a sweet car.
One of your best videos - such variety! Your gorgeous 4CV remains my favourite with the Riley Monaco at the meet a close second. Amusing to see the Youthful Assistant vacuuming his shed and the Mazda. I wonder if Mrs OCC expects him to vacuum his bedroom?! I thoroughly concur with your advice on cleaning out wheel arch lips, something I do a couple of times a year even on my modern cars, and your sound advice to re-torque cylinder heads. My car-owning children believe these tasks, along with simple checks of levels, are only for 'old codgers' and they mock me mercilessly! 🙂
that beautiful 28 dodge be my choice to runaway with i be-leave 27 or 8 was the first years of that 6 that find itself in little and big dodge fun show thanks for showing us
Great content as usual , I'd take home Harley's tin of ' Eezit ' but must admit that Nash Metropolitan is very tasty !.Forgotten about those long thin metal spout oil tins that allowed perfect , accurate, remote dispension .
All models at a time when a young boy could stand at a traffic light-controlled crossroads for some good old fashioned 'car spotting.'. Front. back and sides of vehicles were all recognizable unlike the soulless shapes of to-day!!
2-07min Gunk , I was brought up with that in my nostrils ! ( liquid not aerosol ) still use it on my Moto Guzzis , drying off on a freshly washed down engine Ahhh !! runs a very close 2nd to Castrol R and freshly cut grass ( grasstrack racing , strange combo i know )
I’ve always said I don’t buy my cars to just sit in that garage 😃 The seasons are a bit of a challenge at bringing them out but I agree, have to find that balance so things don’t get a bit hairy 😅 One of mine is actually the daily and I constantly get fussed at by my fellow car enthusiasts 😂 but oh well 🤷♂️ if I don’t drive it when I’m gone somebody will 😆 cheers and keep up the great videos 🇺🇸🇬🇧❤️🤍💙
The dream of every classic car owner resembles the opening title sequence of "The Italian Job". For most of us, the difficulties and expense closely resemble the moment of hitting the bull dozer.
Nice to see Derek Lancasters Metropolitan HEJ 926, i have 4 Metropolitans. This is an Austin NOT a Nash, Austins were RHD Nash were LHDs, although the same car, these later ones were simply known as Metropolitan 1500s. I know this series 3 car, its beautiful, although the owner is aware that Black was not added to the colour chart for Mets until 1959 when the series 4 was introduced until end of production in 1961, series 4 cars has a rear opening external boot lid and quarter light side vent windows, this colour was known as Classic Black (P908) and Frost White (P914). well done Derek for displaying, nice to see some classic 50s cars amongst a sea of modern non classics at a show.
Thirteen years from a battery is unheard of where I live in California. It's so hot here, we're lucky to get three or four years. But, the cars don't rust much, so there's that.
When you were talking about screen washer it bought back memories of when seconhand car adds used include in the description "electric washers" wow big deal in the day, some had foot operated washers as well, not to mention floor mounted dipper switch. Them was the days, lol. The saab 99 from memory used a lot of Triumph parts, engine, gearbox etc so maybe fitting a Dolomite sprint engine would have been fairly straight forward other than space wise. MG BGT is a fairly basic car with a well proven engine that is simple to service and as you said a good beginners car. I have very much enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.
I was given a tip by a friend re. a very cheap car dust cover. Get a Queen sized doona cover from a secondhand shop. Slit around the seams to double the size and this is enough to cover 2/3rds. of most cars. Then a single doona opened up is enough to cover the bonnet. Saves the car from all dust and is easy to throw over and take off. I do this with all my old cars.
Seeing the Redex advert reminded me when we used to travel to Dorset from London my dad would fill up the car and for each gallon of petrol he would insist on a shot of Redex, I wonder if it really was needed or just a clever marketing ploy ? I also remember him swearing by Duckhams oil, so I followed in his footsteps and put in my Vauxhall Fierenza BIG MISTAKE it knocked like crazy so I stuck with my good old Castrol GTX
Why red paint fades more than other colours is the pigmentations in the paint.I was a painter in auto body shops back in the day. Red also cost more than other colours. I’m sure with today’s paints red stands up to the elements a lot better.
Great vid as usual! My father had a visiting French scientist friend who had one of these in grey, the dash has about as much as the Fiat 600 it seemed very old at the time ! How often are the meets at Crewe?
Our bacon(beef bacon in our case) sandwiches include lettuce and tomato on toasted bread with mayonnaise. We are having that this evening. Are your's constructed in such a manor?
At the meet they were no-frills sandwiches but still very agreeable. At home, things do get more varied and toasting has been known to play a part in the overall construction of bacon-based sandwiches.
The earlier 1709cc SAAB engine did owe its origins (loosely) to the Triumph engine of the time, but it was majorly re-engineered I understand especially once the later B-Series SAAB engines in the 99s, 99 Turbos and the 900s went on sale.

Another enjoyable video, thank you.
Harley has caught the classic car scene bug that's for sure 😂 good on you young man , 👍

Ahh I see, thanks for the explanation
Lovely story about the Air France model. How lovely to repurchase a childhood toy.

Charming video and I really love the 4CV it is delightful.
I like the "Hazell" white Triumph Stag, but the Vauxhall Viva HC takes top spot for rarity. 😁👍
That was a really good video. Had a bit of everything.
A great attendance at Crewe, the Lada estate and Anglia estate would be my pick of the show. Good to see your Anglia on the road, such a sweet car.
Thanks Allan, it was neat to get along to this meet again

Thanks, yes the weather does its best to mess up driving plans, but I'll use 'em whenever I can :)
@@oldclassiccarUK absolutely 💯🚙💨💨💨🌝
Greatl video, very varied car turnout ad what a large collection of hand drills . Your Renault looks superb.
The dream of every classic car owner resembles the opening title sequence of "The Italian Job".
For most of us, the difficulties and expense closely resemble the moment of hitting the bull dozer.
The Morgan 4-4 series 1 used the Coventry Climax and placed well at Lemans in 37 too!

Hi yes I've a couple of cotton bed sheets in the garage that I sometimes use, when I remember ..
Seeing the Redex advert reminded me when we used to travel to Dorset from London my dad would fill up the car and for each gallon of petrol he would insist on a shot of Redex, I wonder if it really was needed or just a clever marketing ploy ?

It's surprising just how different oils can be despite being the same grade etc.

MKIII Cortina is a good looking car. Many a PDI on them.
When you refurbish Harley's shed exterior I hope you keep the blue colour for the paintwork.
Maybe or we might go for a change, we'll see! Either way it'll still look olde worlde

Great vid as usual! My father had a visiting French scientist friend who had one of these in grey, the dash has about as much as the Fiat 600 it seemed very old at the time ! How often are the meets at Crewe?
Hi, I think these meets are monthly-ish, best to keep an eye on the Crewe Heritage Centre website as they post events on there

Did the Saab originally share Dolomite 1850 Hal engine ? If so Sprint was obvious upgrade , good move .

@@oldclassiccarUK thanks for that info .
