Aviva refused to quote my iPace as a 63 year old retired low mileage (4000/annum) driver. Last year was £650, this year same broker quoted £2,500 !!. Eventually got it for £750 this year. Keep up the great work guys.

As an ex retailer we had merchandise meetings explaining why products were placed where they are and why on occasions they were changed. ( margin / supplier bonus / shelf cap ) . So you are not going mad when you can't find something .
I also used to drive a HGV on nights out of a depot in Bradford!!!. Police interceptors wasn't filmed there for no reason.

Supermarkets - it's about increasing awareness of things we wouldn't normally buy. We normally buy a similar basket each week but, when the shelves are shuffled, we see products that we normally walk past. Then we say “that thing looks nice/interesting” and pop some of them in our basket.

Shareholder dividends from insurers - don’t forget that virtually everyone with any sort of pension savings plan is a vicarious shareholder of the big insurers so if there isn’t a dividend payment your pension suffers…………. I’m not condoning big payouts to share holders but remember most people in the U.K. now have to have auto enrolled pension savings plans that makes them a shareholder of something.

It's a well known supermarket tactic.
Move things and the customer has to search for what they've come in for.
While searching they spot something they didn't come in for and make an (additional) impulse purchase.
Turnover goes up for a couple of weeks.
The supermarket has to balance this with the risk of annoying their customers so much that they go to a rival store, of course, so they don't do it too often.

As an interesting point, my insurance went up around 40-50% for my ZS ev. With all this "ev's cost more to insure" I did a check on the petrol version, same age and spec as mine but valued less and being petrol auto, and it was £475.85 for the EV and £504.10 for the petrol version. I don't get where people are coming from that it's EV's that are expensive to insure.
Out of curiosity I got a quote for a Taycan, after seeing another channel say his was "uninsurable" and I got a quote of £1338.85. Fairly reasonable given the difference between mine and their car....

The problem with most politicians is they see a lot of London and all of the transport options. Then in the bigger cities that have trams and a great bus network. If you live in the countryside, public transport does not exist. We have no regular bus and living near to the county border, we can not even get to our closest large village that has the shops and pubs. So a car is needed and my EV is fantastic as I no longer need to do a 20 mile round trip to refuel. It also costs me a tenth of the previous fuel cost. But now being hit by insurance price rises is the biggest hit.
Cars have certainly increased in price over the past 2 years and this has definately affected the insurance cost as well as repair costs taking longer and parts being more expensive.
I loved the podcast being focussed on a subject and being objective.

In my 60s, never had a claim in 50years of driving. Insurance renewal went up 65%. Obviously shopped around and got it cheaper but companies are clearly profiteering. It is actively encouraging owners to drive uninsured which of course is wrong.

Had to visit my local repair shop to ask about a dent on the bonnet of my Fiat 500e. The chap I was talking with told me that paint for cars has gone through the roof. My car is rose gold and he said this is a special paint and will cost £1000 per litre at least. To remove the dent prep and paint the bonnet would be more than £850 if the paint wasn't special coat. Had a paint free dent removal done for £45 and he buffed out the small scratch. This kind of price will write cars off that appear to have very minor damage.

The lack of enough battery repair workshops is probably why EVs are being written off when there is actually very little wrong with them. In Norway, which seems 5 years ahead of the UK in this, there are companies such as Elbilmek which specialises in this work. Hopefully many more such companies will spring up soon in the UK as demand grows.

47:47 yes, it's deliberate because they want you ROAM around, hoping you will buy more stuff.
what you want/"feel like" vs necessities what you actually need.
so you going to supermarket, rarely/occasionally, already fed and with shopping-list is what they don't want you to do.
they ❤ frequent, distracted/confused and hungry shoppers.

A huge contributor to increased premiums and write offs is 1/ Guaranteed Courtesy Car ( and the “racket” surrounding that industry and it’s pricing to insurers) combined with 2/ Extended lead times for some parts to repair.
the combination of £150 a day car hire and, say, a month to get parts, means a £5k car hire bill before they start the repair, which may take another month

Car - do I need one - yes, and no! I could manage without, by getting the supermarket to deliver what they think I want, to my house, and if I go nowhere, but just sit and watch You-tube all day. For work, no, because I've been retired for 15 years!, But - for my main hobbies, yes, most definitely, because the main focus of activity with all of them is way out in the country (nothing improper, honest!) - and without the car there is no way I could carry everything I need, including basic spare parts, on a bicycle - there is no bus or rail route anywhere near, and a taxi - ha! Not a snowflake in a bessemer furnace chance of getting one to take me - never mind come and bring me back! (The phone signal is iffy at best, anyway!) - - Supermarkets swapping stock about - that really bugs me. I have so much to spend on groceries, and when it is gone, that's it. I don't care how appealing the 'new' item is, if I don't know what it is, I don't get it, in case I don't like it - (or it doesn't like me!), and then that money it cost has been wasted. Also - swapping stock They leave things in place for a little while, so the regular customers can just go to them, then suddenly the potatoes are chinese tv dinners, or something, so the ten minute shop becomes an hour, wandering up, down, and round, trying to find the things you went for. Now, recently, I've been plagued with arthritis in a hip, which means I cannot walk very far, so having to hunt for basic groceries becomes purgatory, and I often leave without having found the item I went for, if they've been swapped round again!

I just renewed my insurance on my Zoe. Ended up finding a deal for £100 more than last year. What annoyed me the most though was the 10 mins I wasted putting my details in on Direct lines website. Ohhh we aren't on price comparison websites, we don't pay them a fee so we can get you a better deal. Yeah right...£1400 quote. 😮
I'm 40, no points, 10 year+ no claims. That didn't even include breakdown cover. I drive a slow as hell Renault Zoe! They phoned me afterwards to see if I wanted to take it up...I unpolitely declined.

While prices have gone up we had a lockdown for most of 2020 so didn't insurance companies make a killing due to less miles being done and less accidents? Then in the first 3 months of 2021 more lock down. I am guessing the insurance companies are using 2020 profit figures as a bench mark to justify their lower profit in 2021 and calling it 'a loss' i.e. in comparison to 2020's profit they made less so it's 'a loss'?
As you say a lot of companies are using 'inflation' as a justification to raise prices way above headline numbers because people are expecting it. Bit like fuel prices are now at £1.60 a litre and that's accepted as it's lower than £1.90! It's all about what they think they can get away with - but they are businesses out to make a profit.

I don't get why when I buy a 3 year old EV I'll have to pay £180 VED from 2025, but my current 13 year old Peugeot 1.6eHDi will continue to only cost £30. Won't stop me switching but it's still odd.
Insurance wise, I have seen an increase in policy price, but it's closer to inflation increase for me. 9+ NCD, 37 years old, 5000 miles a year.

Keep the moan format with current serious topics/annoyances.
Supermarkets change layouts for various reasons, cleanliness of displays, they need to clean under shelves regularly so need to move stock around to allow this.
Certain brands pay premiums for prime positions for a set period of time, so require changes to the layout to accommodate their spot.
Also it helps to change annoyingly to make people search for stuff, it increases the dwell time in the store, so you are distracted into buying more stuff.
