Cobalt is also use in the refinement of petrol, no one seem to care about that...
Yes and if its used in batteries it's in every phone. Doesn't seem to stop some people buying the latest Apple or Samsung device on the day of release despite owning the previous model.
@@st200olyes and they type all this concern about cobalt on the device that is full of cobalt 😊
When someone brings that up, and I can be bothered, I say: approx 2 million EVs from Tesla and BYD last year were LFP and have no cobalt or nickel at all in the main battery. So their mobile phone battery has more C & N than 2 million cars in total.
80% of ALL cobalt mined is used in the DeSuplhurisation of Diesel fuel.
Cobalt is an essential industrial metal used in high performance and high temperature steels for example for metal cutting tools and then in turbines for aircraft and power generation, it's the blue pigment in pottery and porcelain ever since those famous Ming vases and Delft tiles and of course as mentioned already the desulphurisation catalysts in fuel refining.
"Wisdom chased them but they ran faster" love that quote 😅
Faster?
Probably because they had a perpetual motion drive.... (😁👍)

Hopefully, they will all get "lost" in Antarctica. 🤣
Kia eniro’s and Hyunda kona’s are now available from £16k now, that’s a proper long range 250-300 mile cars becoming more accessible. Not forgetting Renault Zoe 50kw, cracking value now!
they look like shit though
Ice drivers didn't and I presume don't care about the cobalt (child mined) used in the petroleum production process.....
looking forward to a collaboration with Mac Master....that will be interesting. Perhaps you can help him prepare better for a road trip and teach him a few fundamentals about EV ownership
he doesnt drive very quickly
Maybe you can show him what a large bank of fast chargers looks like when it is in the car park of the hotel the video is being filmed at, so he doesn’t have to drive off with minimal charge and complain about no chargers.
He’s going Australia and he’s going to test drive a Tesla
I hope it happens. But I won't be at all surprised if it doesn't. TBH, I think there's no way he can really address his content without making the guy look totally dishonest and untrustworthy.

Lithium I believe is available for extraction in Cornwall, as a Cornishman I'm not surprised as when I did geology at school there is every mineral known to man in Cornwall. As an aside, ev battery chemistry is evolving so quickly that we will be using something other than lithium inside the next 10 years. Love listening to you rabbiting on😊😊
Sodium ion is available is a couple of EV already, so who know in 10 years!
LITHIUM for EV BATTERIES - The art of mineral extraction with Cornish Lithium | FULLY CHARGED
ua-cam.com/video/FbzL09SoHdo/v-deo.html
Lithium energizes economy in Cornwall
ua-cam.com/video/asz_0Mn_-SA/v-deo.html
Yes, from hydrothermal brines - so it's possible that the heat from the deep brines will provide sufficient energy to operate the extraction or at least much of it, win-win.
The "we'll be using something other than lithium" opinion doesn't allow for "the periodic table".
.
We MIGHT be using Sodium ion, with new supporting technology (nanotubes, etc) but there's the fundamental issue of the atomic weight and structure of Sodium compared to lithium.
.
Essentially, you need more volume of Sodium than of Lithium to hold a given capacity of energy.
.
Yo6u cell, and therefore pack, will be larger in volume and heavier, which apart from making it less efficient (it has to carry its own weight) will make it less useful for the type of vehicle most advocates seem to think it will be suitable for, namely the "small cheap car".
.
Two fundamentals about such a vehicle.
1) There is less physical space for passengers, whatever they wish to carry *and* the drivetrain, battery included.
And
2) The battery pack is a larger percentage of the total weight as the vehicle reduces in size and as such will have a greater effect on the overall efficiency.
.
So, contrary to popular belief, the "compact" vehicle is really where you want a physically tiny but energy dense pack.
.
In current terms, that would be a Nickel based Lithium ion unit.
.
The most effective role of Sodium ion?
To make the supply of lithium, Nickel, etc last longer by taking over the role of "non weight/ volume critical" applications.
.
Examples, Storage and Public Transport (buses, etc) which have sufficient space, benefit from the low coat and are not weight critical.
my brother has a ID 4 and does 140 miles a day, he said its a bit close for comfort (10% left) sub 5 degrees but the rest of time it does it comfortably.
Even my little BMW i3 will do 140 miles even in winter. I would not like to be driving 140 miles a day anymore. :-) EV's are fine for 99% of people who have a driveway in 2023.
Two cannibals sat around the fire, eating a clown (or was it a jester?) :- "does this taste funny to you?"
The problem is that some (maybe a lot) of people have no ability to be objective and to change their opinions. They've accepted the first opinion on a topic and that's it....they will never change their minds, even in the presence of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
"Social" media Headline readers.
Is it true that car rental companies are dropping EVs because their customers don’t like renting them?
No.
@@drivingohm thanks. I had a check and they’re scaling back on EVs mainly because of the cost of repairs but also because drivers don’t want to use them.
A lot of these fears are created and irrational! I remember as a kid, watching kids TV, created an expectation that quicksand would be a much greater danger in my lifetime than it has proved to be 😂
It's not the best ceiling I've seen! But it's up there!

Did you see the article from GB news? It stated that ev sales were going to decline, because only 6% of drivers were planning on changing to an ev within the next year. I felt I had to point out in the comments section that 6% of drivers would be 2 million new electric cars. Not sure where the so called journalists got his information from, but that doesn't sound like a drop in sales to me.
Great video both - it is hard to understand some opinions and the extreme polarisation (sometimes on both sides of the argument) - if you post a different opinion there is so much anger and abuse directed back - its easier to ignore them and stop adding to one’s stress levels and their moneterisation
For the people who genuinely believe these conspiracies think how frightening it must be - i feel
Sorry for them 😢
Got involved in a silly, youtube argument about EVs exploding left, right and centre. One guy commented and you could almost feel the pent up rage, "You do realise that lithium is highly flammable don't you"? He shouted.
"Yeah, right, not like petrol then"?
All power to your elbows, guys. I think there are a couple of main issues at play with the "EV Haters" in this terribly polarised world: First, I think we all agree we are early adopters of EV technology and put up with the lower range and underdeveloped public charging network, but that could/would not be tolerated by a lot of people in it's current state. We have to hope that the infrastructure and range/charging speed issues will get better as the technology matures and becomes more widely adopted. Secondly, I think you hit the nail on the head with people kicking against the government decision to prevent further new petrol/diesel car sales and compulsion to buy electric cars instead. Without a workable solution for reasonably priced home charging for people not fortunate enough to have a drive to park on, this is a real issue which needs to be addressed by the government who are creating the problem by banning sales of new ICE vehicles. I look forward to seeing your forthcoming discussion with the MacMaster over this.
Logical gents.
I've heard worries about EVs being hacked. There was an article from Wired Magazine about hacking a gas Jeep several years ago.
All valid points and I loved hearing you chat about all of these ridiculous comments. The biggest part for me is over 90% of EV batteries can be recycled after any 2nd life, so after maybe 20-25 years they can be used to make a new battery. Cobalt burnt in the process of making fuel has gone out of the exhaust.
The grid is getting cleaner with all the renewables and the problem is that for some reason the UK Government still use costs of oil to work out the cost of electricity. Only with high electric costs can an EV cost the same to run as an ICE car in fuel if then charging at rapid chargers all of the time. Not many people do this and hopefully councils will soon realise that those without off street parking will want EV's.
Number of rapid chargers is massively increased and increasing yearly.
EV's are not yet ready for everybody, but they do not have the majority of issues that are made up, by all of the anti EV people. Remember who will lose out if EV's completely take over....oil companies, countries that sell oil... well now you can understand how and why misinformation is rife.
I want to see how everyone is being forced into EV's......the new laws say you can't buy a new ICE car after 2035. So you can buy an ICE one for a long long time, just not a brand new one. If by then fuel prices have doubled and electric prices halved, not many people would want to pay for fuel.
No jokes for you jESTER

saw a stupid one recently, something about electrics never dominating the market, well, sure in the next decade or few, but eventually, aside from that, maybe 1/100th of the market for electric vehicles is covered, that's a LOT of cash waving in automakers faces that they can't afford to pass up.
UA-camr MCToon who debates Flat Earthers sums them up best and that the follow the "anti scientific method" to build their case which i've realised applies to anything where someone is "anti" something as follows:
1) Pre-select the desired conclusion
2) Only accept supporting evidence
3) Reject contradicting evidence
4) Declare pre-selected conclusion undeniably "proven"
I got to the end. I was doing the washing up mind.
No jokes, hard luck.

Let’s get you around a table with the macmaster and Geoff buys cars asap. They only surround themselves with like minded doubters
best show format... and you should do more exposer on conspiracy myths... which we can all laugh at in the future :)
I love the one about virus's being made in research labs and leaked... that one had me on the floor in stitches... still looking to find how the isolated the virus's personally, its seems very differ cult to find them. Although as you say the apsence of science to prove virus's dosn't of course mean that they dont exist, or that the theory isn't correct, its a clear conspiracy.
Have you seen the guy Paul Burgess on youtube... he talks about how terrible global warming is... and the importance of EV's and he's in his 70's I think.
love the Yorkshire cuisine... curry... its gone international now... even as far as india. Do the thing with electric fires... I think now a days every fire I see must be an ev... my wife put hot ash in our wheeling bin last year, and we woke in the morning to our neighbor calling out as our bin was already finished... it was just a few meters away from the leaf... and amazing the leave didn't spontaneously compost at the sheer hint and reminder that it should catch fire.
The scientific papers which claim isolation of virus's are just like you describe about articles headlines being the opposite of the content... the papers synopses states isolation, and yet the whole scientific report and description clearly show that they never isolated any virus, its so funny how these things are the same.
I love the moon landing best, people can't believe that those early frail models from high tech tin foil didn't work, or the wires holding up the astronauts on the landing walks arn't just artifacts of the old footage.
jester... squiril :) no good jokes sorry not yt friendly.
It’s not just obvious fools posting the crap - today the Conservatives climate minister was saying new oil& gas licenses contribute to decarbonisation.
One of my favourites at the moment is "what happens to your EV when the gov turn off the electricity". If you think about it an EV is a much better apocalypse car.
1. "They" are not going to turn off the electricity and destroy their own economies
2. The fuel pumps will stop working too
3. Anyone with solar panels or other renewable generation will still be able to charge their car.....potentially for decades
4. You could charge a car with a diesel generator just as you could put that diesel into a fossil car
5. There will still be some stores of fuel which could be raided but eventually these would dry up
6. EVs need very little maintenance so would likely far outlast fossil cars in the long run
7. A lot of EVs are SUVs.....perfect for driving over the bodies littering the streets
8. Some EVs could be used to power other devices
9. We'll have a lot more to worry about than our cars if "they" switch off the grid
You are clearly very odd and not the brightest. Point 1, you bought old tech. Ev which is already worthless
2. Electricity will go before fuel
3. It will take you forever to charge a high powered ev from solar
@@nigeltrueman6101 Oh my, there's no getting around your rigorous logic! I am scuppered!
@@nigeltrueman6101 No electricity = no gas or diesel. A single pump jack at the well head uses enough electricity in one month to power a Tesla for 34,000 miles. We have over 400,000 pump jacks in the US. The pipelines that transport crude oil and finished gas/diesel use electricity to power the pumps and valves. The refinery uses enough electricity to power a small city. The storage facilities all use electricity for pumps and valves. The tanker trucks that deliver the fuel to the gas stations are filled by electric pumps. And the gas pumps at the station run on electricity. And the whole process is controlled by computers that use electricity which are connected to data centers that use massive amounts of electricity.
ROFLMAO My neighbor charges his EV (Porche Taycane) overnight on solar as do many other EV owners. But I will let him know that the "expert" said it can't be done. LOL

The 15 minute city backlash is hilarious. It's got nothing to do with cars at all, but people are conflating it with the ULEZ. That horrible restriction where incredibly wealthy Londoners have to have a car more recent than about 2006, or just better in the first place. You know, Londoners who almost always have amazing public transport and don't even need cars.
In actuality it refers to the idea that you should be able to get to all your daily needs - groceries, work, education, medical care and leisure - within a 15 minute walk, cycle ride, or public transport. Imagine living IN a city and still not being able to find a supermarket or grocery of any kind within a 15 minute walk let alone if you can use public transport. That's a 0.75 miles as a radius - a circle 1.5 miles across.
It also applies only to cities. I do think Americans are a big problem with that because their 'definition' of city is anywhere that calls itself a city. We don't think of places as cities unless they've got 50K people or more. Your village isn't a city, but even that should be walkable. You can guarantee half the whiners live on a farm five miles from town and are horrified that they'll have to pay (you won't) for a shop within walking distance. Even if your local government wanted that, the idea would be for them to do what they can to make it easy for someone to set that shop up. Maybe provide some council land. Not to develop it themselves. It also means that when developers build housing estates, the council should be able to reject anything that doesn't have proper facilities... guess what... they've done that for many decades. Developers in the UK are supposed to provide things like schools and retail units and community buildings.
When people complain about not having community facilities, or anything for kids to do, pushing the fifteen minute city (or village) is what will solve that. All it really means is someone pays some attention to this, and tries to prevent food deserts or work deserts. That's an actual thing in a lot of places. And here it should obviously include a Chinese and Indian takeaway desert and incentives to prevent that because it's just not worth living without. Add a chippy and a pizza place and a pub while you're at it. ;)

I can't see him doing a collaboration with EVM. He'll be made to look the fool many of us already think he is....
The 'edge cases' I see presented to prove EV's can't possibly work seem to be getting more and more unhinged.
One bloke claimed that he and his wife regularly drove from their home in the East Midlands, over to the Welsh coast 'just for chips' which seemed a little hard to believe. Especially when, on one occasion, he said he'd done it immediately after having driven back from the Netherlands via the channel tunnel.
Another guy claimed his (yet again) regular 5 hour drive was only punctuated by a pee in a layby, if needed. Otherwise he drove the entire distance with a packup lunch.
Why people seem to want to torture themselves like this is beyond me.

Let's try this ....
"Journalism" was always fundamentally the "opinion" of the person writing the piece, who probably had direct contact with an "editor" whi may alter the bias slightly by removing or suggesting an addition of a phrase.... The original writer probably had some input to the edit(?).
.
(The Author probably had a degree of journalist integrity, and concern for their reputation)
.
Then, the piece was published.
It generally reached a reasonably limited audience, subscribed to a journal / newspaper, etc.
The majority actually *read* the whole piece.
It may or may not alter their opinion, but either way they considered the narrative.... Actually *thought* about it.
.
A changebin attitude due to a single article wad unlikely and if it DID happen, took a consuderable time to spread , being discussed at length.
.
Move to today.
.
We increasingly see literally *INSTANT* comment, "hosed" to our feed, based on previous viewing.
This opinion is essentially unedited.
.
It's often (usually?) presented by a oerson untrained, with no "journalist integrity", little talent, without research, based on opinion, rather than anything close to fact.
.
The amount of content fosters a "read the headline, move on" mentality.
Some may read the first paraghraph, or listen to the first minute.
.
At that point, the reaction is "thats what I thought!.... Next!"
.....
Side note for older gits....
Remember the hotel scene in Crocodile Dundee?
.
"Whats that?"
"Its a TV"
"Ah! I saw one of those in a Pub once!"
(Turns on TV)
"I love Lucy" is playing
(Watches for a few seconds)
"Yep! That's what i saw!"
(Turns off TV)
Now, THAT'S a lesson!
.....
Now, "We" see the headline, confirm our own bias and move on, the algorithm NOTES that bias and sends us "more of the same" which distills the viewing.
.
Even when searching, wr subconsciously (?) use search terms that shift us to subjects and opinion which we will agree with.
It's also easy to *always* find an individual or more usually a group which *will* hold the same opinion.
That's when "opinion" becomes "100% fact" within the group.
.
At that point, the opinion migrates from "the centre" *and* differing opinions, close to but on either side of that centre, to become *opposite* and increasingly extreme.
.
Its not going to end well.
Er...you've gone on too long, roger....
.... You always sound crazy when you go on too long .....
.....and NOBODY reads to the end .....!
But at least Flat Earthers can tell what a woman is ,Sir Keir Starmer ,Nicola Sturgeon and Ed Davey can’t .

Do you think it was a proportionate response to attempt to vaccinate every person on the planet considering our Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty announced on live TV in May 2020 that the virus would be fatal to 1% or less of the population?
It was an attempt to make the vaccination available to every person on the planet. There's a subtle but important difference.
@@garysmith5025 OK.If it was half a percent rather than one percent would you still think vaccinating everyone on the planet was a proportionate response?
Available to the population isn’t forced on.
@@drivingohm I bit so that you wouldn’t have to :)
@@drivingohm You are correct.I never said forced though.
😂
Best joke ever:
A policeman spots a man driving down the street with five penguins in his back seat.
The policeman stops him and says: "Sir, I really think you should take those penguins to the zoo."...
The man replies: "Why officer that is a fine idea!"....
The man drives off in the direction of the city zoo...
The very next day, the policeman sees the same man driving around with the five penguins in his back seat...
The policeman stops the car again and says "I told you to take those penguins to the zoo!!!"
The man (bemused): "But I did officer...we're going to the beach today!"
Tesla can turn off your car that’s a fact.
Oh dear! :)
@@drivingohm - you need to call them. They have the technology to disable your supercharging. They did it and have now reverse that for EV's that have had a crash and than put back on the road. They can disable your car and make it roll to the side of the road, if you do not play be the rules for auto pilot. They can disable a Tesla if it is stolen by tracking where it is and slowly reduce its speed so it stops. All facts

The Vegans have been replaced by EV haters?
Bugger, I’m a vegan EV driver who chose Tesla partly as it has Vegan interiors and others had ‘premium leather’.
I tried to keep that to myself but couldn’t. 😂
Comes across as very patronising.

despite saying you don't want to be political - you have been and are generalising re. older people who may also be "right leaning". I'm both of those and we have two EV's - so please be more careful with your assumptions.
I'm "one" of those..... a d would probably be considered a "Lefty" by many.
(I would say "experienced realistic futurist")
We were clearly talking about the 'general population', which is where a generalisation comes from.
This is just spotting a pattern over the years from my angry commenters.
It's just data, not an opinion.
Oh dear...What a couple of clowns! 🙄
The reason why many people don't like EVs is because it has been because they have been mandated by many governments around the world.
So we will not have a choice.
It is also more expensive per mile than ICE if you have to use public chargers.
Worst depreciation than ICE cars.
Almost impossible to insure certainly more expensive.
Your rant is laughable.
Do you know anything about WEF? I suggest you check them out.
I will stick to my ICE car thank you very much.
Were you even aware of subscribing to a charge network to reduce the cost of charging? My local charge network is priced at 38p per kwh if you use one of their 3 subscription rates..... What has the WEF got to do with it? The WEF are not a legislative organisation, and cannot introduce or enforce laws or rules in any nation. I just renewed the insurance on my Kia EV. It has risen by £72 over last year's cost. Try not to place too much credence in the crap you read about EV's, as most of it is wriiten by people who have never owned one. Most people who choose an EV tend to lease it, so depreciation isn't a concern.
@tonyjesshope6861
.
Ya' see... The problem with starting a post.....
"The reason why many people don't...." is it's presumptive.
.
If you'd written...
"I believe many people may not....."
And maybe later
"... since it seems (to me) that they've been mandated...."
.
You may have been more accurate.
.
(I would point out that the term "mandated" would actually be "the job" of a democratically elected Government, deciding policy based on (hopefully) the best scientific evidence available, which would indicate not following the chosen path presented eventual danger to that population?
.
There may (should) also be an element of that Government considering a global trend and recognising a multi generational opportunity which would greatly benefit their electorate?
.
They might even consider that they may be negligent if they *did not* engage in the opportunity?
.
You can (hopefully) look forward to the Government reforming energy pricing, removing the "Marginal gas price" con.
.....
"More expensive than ICE per mile"? Using which chargers?
Maybe in certain circumstances, using SOME chargers, but much cheaper when using others.
(Note, there's going to be a price war, the expensive suppliers are going to have "issues")
.
Insurance...
I'll direct you to another well known UK channel, RSymons
They Recently spent time checking insurance on various EVd and ICE *equivalents* (not "Tesla vs ICE Yaris")
those looking for quotes varied in age and circumstances, they used the same criteria for every quote.

@CamConcious
.
I suppose it might help if you give "us" a clue, by defining the term "You people".
I mean, I can *probably* guess, but your answer/ definition would make the dismantling of your opinion so much more fun.
EVs are a rolling bomb all the early adopters and the rich and stupid bought one and now it's the end for EVs, nice product but just a toy.
Less than 1% of the people in the world have and EV and that will fall soon.
WTF are you talking about troll!
Please explain how the number of EV owners will fall, once ICE cars cease being produced. Are you even aware of the very recently introduced legislation governing the sale of new electric cars in the UK? I thought not..... Were you even aware that around 300 petrol and diesel cars catch fire every day in Britain? Again, I thought not.... What sort of cars will everyone drive after oil runs dry?
A "Bomb" is an "explosive" device.
.
As in
"....a reactive substance that contains a great amount of potential energy that can produce an "explosion" if released suddenly, usually accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound, and pressure..."
.
That requires a material with an incredibly high energy density AND a means to release ALL of that energy essentially instantaneously.
.
Batteries don't do that.
.
One of the main FUD comments is "they're heavy".
If they're "heavy" it's because they need more volume (weight) to contain the energy required.
.
If a cell fails (Which is how a pack fails), it will fizz, maybe "pop" a little, but not "Explode".
.
The "Pack" failure will take tens of minutes, maybe hours.
.
That doesn't describe a "bomb"
.
On the contrary, *Gasoline* DOES have the energy density, and CAN release that energy at such a rate that it can be considered "A (rolling) Bomb".
.
I was going to say "nice try"... But it really wasn't.
They aren’t all locked up - jester and squirrel - very apt! 🤡 🥜
