I just wanna say that hours of watching these videos subconsciously taught me how to break a fish down and ended up being very helpful when I went to Pohnpei in the Pacific for research. We went out with our friend on our day off and caught a bunch of yellowfin and mahi mahi (I have never fished out in the ocean on a boat before), and he let us keep 2. My years of watching this channel out of pure entertainment and I was able to cut it up (very roughly for a first time) back at the house! So thanks for that lol
10:58, nice Kagami! I think they call them African pampano and diamond travelly in other parts of the world. You could actually see them next to the shore when you thought they were omilus. Awesome strike and way to land it from shore! Such a beautiful fish!
Diamond trevally and African pompano are very similar but they are not the same. Diamond trevally is an indo pacific fish and doesn’t come to the Atlantic. That’s 100% what taku caught. I’ve caught AP before and that’s not what he had. The African pompano inhabits pretty much all warm water areas of the world so it’s possible to catch one in Samoa but don’t think that’s what he caught. AP at that size have lost their long dorsal fins, at least in the Atlantic. Either way, I bet they taste very similar and AP is maybe my favorite fish. So good cooked or raw.
Awesome Job Taku!! The Shiney one is called a Kagami in Hawaii. They usually travel in pairs. If you catch or shoot one, the other will be close by. Nice job!
Also I visited Samoa en route to Kanton Atoll in 2015. Beautiful spot. Didn't mind the Vailima! Wonder what happened to our deckhand, Taula. He'd get all excited and call bluefin trevally Bluvalley!
Can’t wait to go back home in Faleaseela. Been away for 14 years now.. out here slaying Uluas in Hawaii now😊. Definitely going to try out those spots when I go back Samoa lol. Taking VILI with me.
I remember I watched your vids few years ago, and I totally forgot about you unfortunately. But gladly youtube algorythm made your vid pop up in my feeds. This is what I love about you and your channel- the real people, cozy atmosphere, some genuine folks and culture . Honestly makes me feel like home and gets me feeling that Im travelling as well. Thank you!
It's so great that whether you're Japanese, Indonesian, Polynesian, or Micronesian, there is a culture of using every part of the fish. I get so sick of fishing channels where the heads and collars are tossed away like garbage - such disrespect for the ocean.
@@harrymiram6621I put all of this in my instapot 1/4 c vinegar 2T fish sauce mushrooms of choice 2 C of chicken stock or water handful of Thai chili Hot and sour soup so good. Had firm tofu at the end. And noodles too. Yummm
I’m white and grew up fishing with my dad who had that mentality of waste. He grew up working on his dads charter boat that just gave clients filets and tossed everything else. I learned from UA-cam channels like takus and many others about how to use everything. He’s so mad at himself for what he’s wasted after I’ve made him collars, grouper ribs, fish cheeks, fish head stew, pasta sauce made with snapper racks, crispy fish skin, etc, etc. People really don’t know what they are missing out on and just need to be educated about how easy and tasty it is use everything from a fish. Still need to get bold and try to use organs but my dog sure loves them haha.
Samoa looks like a great place to visit for people like me who like to camping simply. Also a great place of our group of friends who like the simple life too❤. The fishing looks great and the relaxation is good if you want it. 🎉
Enjoyed your catch and cook. It’s nice to have friends and family to share it with. Food is the best way to incorporate in celebrations. Ty so much for sharing it with us. Cheers to more! God bless
I believe that is called an African Pompano, I could be wrong but here in Florida we catch them on the wrecks and it look exactly the same. nice fish for sure. nice job Chef.

African Pompano in the Caribbean for sure.

In Jamaica, they roast breadfruit over a fire, let it cool, peel it and then shallow fry it in oil and sprinkle with salt. It’s so good.

Split ring pliers, new tool i never knew i absolutely need now
The overheat is so relatable, thats why I have a mini umbrella for my phone while filming 😂🤣☂️
hahahaha mini umbrella for the gopro would be hilarious
Great content Taku! Have you tried using a portable powerbank for the gopro? It helps with overheating when you don't run batteries inside the camera.
As a Polynesian living in Brizzy....wow! Poly Japanese fusion, love your style bro. ♥️
Great video! Can you catch some crab and cook it while you're out there? Love to see that.
Good lord this one of the most delicious hiyashi chuka I've seen!!!

We don’t have these out in the PNW must be nice for the locals to take ya out and fish and have a great time
Awesome catch!!!!!
Awesome fishing living the life fishing and eating
the food looks so good as always
Great video Taku!
you can steam bread fruit before making the tempura, use like smash potatoes.
get a longer rod. 11 or 12foot for double distance cast. And try to retreive it a little bit slower so the fish wont miss the lure.
That cold noodle bowl is inspiring!!
HEY!!! You caught a giant Trevally. My dad caught one of those off the beach on Guam one night, over 3 feet long.. still have the picture.
That Kagami fish is a beauty
Meanwhile, it’s winter here in Canada. Loved the content!!!
