    It's so true! Just because something is naturally occurring doesn't necessarily mean it belongs on your skin or in your body or is automatically superior to synthetics. So many companies make money by playing on people's fears perpetuating this myth!
    I spend very little to no time in the sun but I'm still constantly stressed about SPF and incidental exposure causing pigmentation and wrinkles. The stress probably causes more wrinkles than the sun!

    Hello, I totally agree with your critique of how the term "natual" is used as a marketing tool and to scare people. It is super annoying in any situation when the term natural occurs. It is almost always a flawed argument to begin with if the dubious term natural needed to be attached to it.
    I wish that you both (I sincerely enjoy both or your work) would look more into what we should be carefully with when it comes to ingredients in skincare. It is not enough of an argument for me that we should trust big corporations because they are "like us".
    For example Johnsson & Johnsson was recently order to pay masses of money for failing to warn that their talk powder could course cancer. And I was listening to a science program on the Swedish national radio (like the BBC) about nano sized metals. There they said that the EU do not yet agree of how to test nano sized metals and that therefore they do not know how to regulate the usage. And because the lack of data you cannot really say that much about the possible damage in a body or in a ecosystem. I know they cannot get through the skin, but I was recently in the pharmacy and every sunscreen stick ment to go on your lips had nano sized physical sunscreen. Is that not a little bit worrying?
    I really appreciate that you both what to clear the air of the bullshit and to bust myths (please continue!). But maybe what I am asking for is for you to bust your way through all areas of the skincare jungle.
    🙌💚☀

    • @sable7114
      @sable7114 5 років тому +2

      @@MrsChrisRedfield I don't believe there is any natural sun protection in melanin or darker skin tones. In fact I believe skin tones are darker because of the areas of the world darker tone individuals originated from, in other words exposure to lots of sun. Also think that is why hair textures or curliness vary, or at least that is what I was taught in school, and that the tighter the curl the more protection to the skull and the Brain. I have seen many people of color with tans and many who tan very quickly as well. Perhaps the effects of sun damage like hyperpigmentation may not be as noticeable on darker skin tones as it would be on lighter skin tones. I don't know, that's just my take on it and that is what I was taught in school.

    • @juliabazanska
      @juliabazanska 4 роки тому

      @@sable7114 It's the other way around - darker skin tones developed in sunny regions because of the sun exposure in order to protect the skin. So yes, darker skin does protect from premature ageing caused by UV damage, HOWEVER research has also shown that there could possibly be higher risk of skin cancer the deeper pigmented your skin is.

    • @sable7114
      @sable7114 4 роки тому

      @@juliabazanska yes that's basically what I said , what you said in your first sentence. I think the darker tone might be slightly more resistant to sunburns but not skin aging nor skin cancer, I think all skin tones must protect themselves from the damage of UVB and UVA. Thanks for enlightening me on the newer studies however regarding the fact that darker skin tones may be more susceptible to damage that causes skin cancer. I believe that all along though and have encouraged friends with darker skin tones to use sunscreen as well and to also have the skin checked periodically by a specialist. We have been having some strange weather so I do hope that you're having a great day!

    I do not only think about my own health when I refuse to use silicone in my skin care or cosmetic. But what about the environment? Will we end up in a sea of dimethicone? What about synthetic sunscreen and the great barrier reef?
    I’m the first to know that ‘natural’ is not always good for skin, because I’m one of the patients Michelle talks about - I’m allergic to any kind of fragrance. No difference between essential oils or fragrance. I also react to some (thankfully not all) preservatives in skincare. Guess what fun I have finding anything to put on my skin...

    My take on natural vs. synthetic from a layman perfumer perspective: natural is nothing more than a bunch of chemicals found together in nature. I find single molecules easier to work with because they are *one* building block as opposed to a conplex form of architecture.
    Likewise I trust glycyrrhetinic acid more than the more romantic sounding licorice extract, because the latter has more potentially disagreeable molecules.

    I’m curious, in Caroline Hirons recent videos on rentinol/vitamin A, she made a really big deal about the ingredient being high up on the inci list but Michelle said this doesn’t matter? Merinda Kaye Hensley I agree with Michelle. There are recommended levels for ingredients. I can’t imagine retinol being the second or even third ingredient in a product. It would exceed the recommended formulation and be too harsh on the skin.

    • @annamacm4063
      @annamacm4063 5 років тому +2

      My recollection is that Caroline Hirons stipulated that the retinol needed to be ABOVE a particular other ingredient on the inci list, rather than ‘high’ on the list. .. sorry I can’t remember the name of the other ingredient off the top of my head. But I hope that helps reconcile the apparent discrepancy here.

      Clinique moisturizers, like the dramatically different (jelly is weightless and great for summer, I prefer lotion at winter or for night time), my favorite 72 hr moisture surge, love these, super simple and light yet extremely effective. Also Neutrogena body lotion, Sally Hughes (who they mentioned) has extremely dry skin and she swears by them and I agree. Ordinarys NMF. I would also point out that all these also contain propylene/ butylene glycol which are jusr as fabulous as glycerin.
      Side note: glycerin is also lovely for wavy/curly/coily hair, but only in certain dew points, otherwise it actually makes hair frizzy and dry or limp.

    The only oil I've actually had real results with is Rosehip oil. It was my very first skincare product, I used it without sunscreen, moisturizer or retinol and it single handedly did give me an even skin tone.

    I agree that glicerin is great, I sometimes do a home made serum with matcha green tea and glicerina, or camu camu. Thank you for the video...!!! 💕💕💕
