Ive an 02 since 2005, done 112,000 miles, apart from wear and tear(brakes,2 Springs) only changed cambelt, coilpack and a new cat fitted with front pipe, good car, service it regularly, look after it paintwise and it'll last a long time :)
Just bought it today, cant wait to pick it up tommorrow, it's my first car and it feels so dinamic and sporty to drive, i heard these 1.6 16v ZETEC engines have really good mpg and are reliable, and i only paid 760€ for it :) hope it wont have any major problems in the future
Nice, I'm also thinking about focus mk1 model, what year is your car? 760€ sounds like a really good deal imho, also do these focuses tend to corrode a lot like mazdas of similar years or are they more persistent on northern climate weathers (rains a lot + heavy snowing couple of months per year)?
I've been using it for a couple of days and it's a great car! Mine was made in 2001 and it spend 15 years in a cold, snowy and rainy climate (also, the roads are always covered with salt over the winter) and it still looks good. They tend to corrode a bit on the rear wheel arches and on the bottom of the doors. Also, the rear boot hinges tend to brake after around 10-15 years of use (it depends on how many times the doors have been opened - however, they cost only around 20€ on eBay and you can replace them yourself). I had to invest 30-40€ into the car for some filler, paint and sandpaper to repair the corroded metal, but it's very easy to make the car look like new, it took me 4h to fix all of the rust on the car and now it looks brand-new:) And make sure there isn't too much rust on the bottom of the car (especially the sub-frame and floor panels - just bring the flashlight and check for excessive rust when buying it), because fixing that can be frustrating - I've done it on a couple of cars (my friend is a mechanic and I sometimes help him), and trust me, you don't want to buy a car with holes in the floor panels :) But overall, I really recommend buying this car, since it has plenty of power, great fuel economy (700km with a single tank of gas, or 500km if you drive really fast), and you can buy plenty of mods (like diffrent bumpers, side kits, 7" touchscreen LCDs for the dashboard, daily LEDs, etc.) and the build quality is excellent! Really, I've never seen a car with such great design features and innovations (especially for early 2000s cars), and they are extremely reliable (the engine/gearbox are bullet-proff, electric systems still work perfectly, ...).
Thanks a lot for your comprehensive reply, I'm now really even more into getting this car, I'll probably do that when my roadworthines checkup of my old megane coupe ends very soon

Two quick buying tips, -See if the bonnet lock opens smoothly, it is a nightmare if the cable connection breaks, tiny plastic parts inside, so you wont be able to access the enginebay. -Check for rust thoroughly, the bottom near the doors is sometimes wet and rusted.
The 1.6 does provide enough torque and you get pretty good gas mileage with 5th gear cruising 80 km/h at 2000 rpm. I average around 6 litres per 100 km.
As a daily driver I can say that 5th gear is very long, good for cruising at a mostly level speed above 50 km/h, but not great for overtaking. 4th great above 40km/h. 3rd from 25km/h-30km/h. 1st and 2nd are good for starting off. 1st can get me up to 50km/h, 2nd up to 100km/h. You'll obviously sacrifice fuel economy by doing hard acceleration though. But generally light on petrol
The Borg 2nd 100km/h??? My Focus races at like 5000 rpm when i do 50 in 2nd. Yes i do it sometimes to get to the 50 quickly. But then it’s up to the 3th or 4th. 5th is too high to 50, the engine will go below idle rpm. 2nd gear is for 30km/h zones. 3rd gear for 50 with the capability to brake on the engine.
@@Engineer9736 when on a flat straight, I use 5th. If there is any kind of incline, I have to downshift. My car gets 7000 RPM in 1st at 60km/h. 5th is kinda like the "I'm here, but don't deliver much" kinda gear. Never use it below 45 km/h. 4th is generally a manageable gear. But at 100km/h I'm maxing the revs in 2nd. I would not recommend doing it regularly if you want to keep the engine. The only time I have done it is when I had to pull off a tight overtake
It’s an old model. Cars of the current year are much much much better. I often rent cars, those and brand spanky new, they drive like a dream. Now i bought a Ford Focus year 2000 but it takes a bit of getting used to, like not letting it stall (You have to rev properly before bringing up the clutch), and there is no stock cruise control and the stock radio is just crap. But that’s the price difference of course between a new and 20 year old car.
My dad use to have a 2003 1.8 ford and he didn't have to fix or replace any parts for 8 years before someone is a tractor decided it would look better it he crushed the front of the car into millions of pieces
