A minor glitch in a major endeavor. She looks great in the water. Lovely lines on that boat. Congratulations. The coolest part was hearing that brief wooden boat 'creak' when you first went aboard. Fine job!
some months later I am less destroyed by the water she took on. I've worked on the bottom a lot since then and look forward to Spring. Thanks for the kind words!
She looks great! If it is the keel boats causing the leak, you might remove the nut and washer, and wrap a bit of cotton line around the bolts, then tighten the nuts back down, essentially caulking the through-holes. Also, she might "take up" after sitting in the water and the leaks will stop.
yes, my mind is working overtime coming up with solutions. Interestingly, she held most all of the water to a point where I had to shop vac it out. In the shop, on the trailer and then lifted off of the trailer, probably 4 or 5 hours went by and I expected to have to mop the floor. very little leaked out. May have swelled up enough to seal already anyway. and no matter how much I know or understand about taking up, didn't alleviate my worry in the moment when I suddenly saw water in the bilge. thanks for your comment!
Chuck at 4:17. Reminds me of my son getting his first car. Exciting times. Congratulations Chuck looks good in the water. Wow 4 years. When you started how long did you think it would take? I was thought 2 years on mine but18 months in that’s not happening 😏
HI Bob, yeah, two years was my original thought too. I still have my full time job in my insurance agency and last summer I built a CLC kayak as a wedding present and so got completely derailed for a couple of months with that. What is even more strange to me now however is that I fully expected to sail her this summer and suddenly it is October. I may have rushed the sea trial but we have already had frost here so my days are numbered. Your seams look great, just saw your latest video over the weekend. cheers!!
Wet at last! She floats well. Had the water drained out by the time you got home? I know you shop vacced it, but was there any signs on the outside of the hull that gave you any clues? I left my boat in the garage overnight without emptying it after a rainstorm whilst I was working on my car, figuring patches on the floor would indicate where the leaks were. Still, a great milestone.
HI Dale, very little water drained out. I actually think this is a good thing. I'm pretty sure it is ballast keel bolt holes. It could be in the centerboard trunk. Water was up to the tops of the floors but not up to the sole. There is a reason we put limber holes in the floors. got a lot of sawdust out this way! Haha!
@@JenkinsBoatWorks It is an ill wind that blows no good, ha, ha. I can't remember if you did, but a lot of people use Butyle Tape around fixings. Hope you get it sorted soon enough.
hi, when i first launched my welsford pathfinder it leaks too from the centerboard bolt. badly. also i espected to build it in 2 years and took me 8. so life goes in between jaja. nice looking boat. in my list too.
Hello. I enclosed the bolt on both sides of the centerboard wall with a self made box and a put a plastic registration lid on it to check. And a lot of sikaflex. No leaks anymore. This design had the centerboard bolt almost water level and is a problem. Now i am building another boat a cape henry 21 and the damm bolt is much higher and i am taking care to make this part very water tight.
@@JenkinsBoatWorks Not only this last video- I've gone back and watched many since you started.. Even ones inside the garage are low volume.. Great build, and I really like the blue hull color.. cheers

Congratulations Captain! I said she looks sweet from behind just as you commented about her aft!

hi Pablo. how did you fix your leak?

Can you increase the volume of your video upload? Very hard to hear, even with my computer volume on max.
