As Lou chatters on, every word relevant, you just get the feeling that you're sitting there beside him as he gives you a one-to-one. You don't want interrupt his flow, and you don't need to, 'cos he just answers every question you were about to ask, effortlessly. Long may the lessons continue, he's a natural master.
I never thought I'd so thoroughly enjoy watching videos of boat repair, but your channel is now one of my favorites. I get excited when I see a new video posted. Looking forward to this project. I really enjoyed watching you repair the last Herreshoff 12 1/2.
Watching these videos has and is the most enjoyable experience I have had on tutorials. The presentation is easily understood Lou talks to you like you're right there. I have been doing light carpentry for some time and I never have built a boat but watching these videos makes one feel the possibilities.
Such an amazing craft, because there's so many things involved and one can't just jump in and fix, one has to be observant first. Awesome video and a great person.
I LOVE your videos. You have inspired me to build my own boat. It is only a 1/12 scale model.....but it is a start. You have the best channel on UA-cam in my opinion. Keep up the great work.
I just started doing some repair work to my little pram dinghy. At first I thought it was just a coat of paint and some minor work done to strengthen the transom, but the more paint I remove, the more problems I find, and now I think the boat is practically a complete rebuild. It's still the same boat once I've finishing all the repairs and restoration though, right?
I can't see how this project is economically realistic! However, if it is used as a learning Tool, then maybe. There is simply no way any person could justify spending this kind of money or the number of hours required to fix a boat in this shape. I saw a another boat, same model (2015 almost no hours) for sale for $25,000.00, that is the market, I love these boats, wish I had one, maybe some day. I'll enjoy watching and learning from Lou.
What's the deciding factor on when a boat is worth restoring or just letting it go? With all that's being redone instead of reusing it amazes me that such labor would be put into it. Or does it just sound alot worse off than it really is? Customer with deep pockets and an attachment to it?

Good question and well worded, I thought, but the answers verged on mystic. For me lou's closing thoughts provide clue as he talks about losing the shape of the boat. So long as you maintain a procedural process I suppose you could replace the whole boat without going through the much more arduous process of achieving that initial shape.
That boat was a wreck long before it went up on the rocks. Should have left it there. All it needs is a new keel, stem, and stern-post. Then new planking, deck, and bulkheads. Some caulking, painting, and new hardware, along with new sails and rigging will just about complete the job.
i agree. best use for that hulk is as a pattern for a new one. Dont see any salvageable material there. but then again, we are watching a video, not there in person.
Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are living righteously. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!

family treasure, that awesome!
Keasbeysknight The deciding factor is different for every situation, boat and person.
Love of the job and love of boats. It's in his blood, and he's their caretaker.

Louis Sauzedde should be in charge of Mystic Seaport.
Lou. I need a good epoxy or resin that I can use to fill voids in a plywood floor. Any suggestions?
