That is one technique I had heard of years ago, but never seen it done. I have to try that out myself since I have material which I can use to make the char cloth. Again, thanks for sharing this information with those of us who didn't know how to use this technique.
For those new to making char cloth, it's also common to use an Altoids tin. They're readily available and the hinges provide the vent hole. Just cut your cloth to shape. Char cloth is great even if you're using something more reliable like a ferro rod; the easily lit, long-glowing ember is good in windy conditions.
