NWS type forecaster. We can't do what we do without the 53rd!
Algorithmic engagement comment.
That "tiller" y'all are making fun of extends all the way into the forward left corner of the nose landing gear wheel well and ends in a sprocket with a length of bicycle chain on it. The chain pulls cables that operate the nose wheel steering hydraulic valve. I haven't been in that wheel well in 15 years, but I can still picture it clear as day.
Got to see a hurricane hunter C-130 at RIAT last year and chat to one of the crew about their role! Was really interesting to hear how they collect data andhave all their equipment palletised to switch between hurricane hunting and transport operations. Even bought a patch to add to my growing collection of those! Definitely looks like a really cool job to do!
My former boss was pilot for the hurricane hunters and flew into Hugo. He had some awesome stories.
My younger brother was born at the base hospital at Keesler AFB (Dad was a HM1 assigned to the SeaBee base at Gulfport).
Hurricane Camile was no joke...................................
May I just say, 45 days until Gonkey lands aboard the Hornet School Discord. 😊
Really would look forward to a hurricane hunter guest interview….Gonky..the C130 picture😂 great picture
My hi school MachineShop Teacher [1978-79] Blew up a C-130 Hurricane Hunter [he was on the ground crew failed to remove air duct thing ] at Kessler AirForce Base in 1964. I remember this event. We were stationed there for yr as Dad got his Radar Training. Small World.
Do the thing again ! 😃
brother in law is with the DEPT of commerce hurricane hunters out of Lakeland, he was navy and still is in the P3.. I remember when the J came to NAS PAX (Force warfare) for testing, everyone was excited.
Gosh. How tall is Casmo?
Didn’t this squadron’s CO just get arrested for burglary?
No.
@@themoverandgonkyshow It was the CO of the 126th Weather Flight out of Wisconsin. Felony burglary, and now subject of a protection order while awaiting trial. One crazy chick.
Yeah, there's lots of room in the new "Super" Hercules flight deck. That's because they took out my seat. B*****ds. But I'm not bitter or anything.
With radar etc. being what it is today, why do we need the hurricane hunters? From what I’ve seen all they do is verify what the technology has already shown. This isn’t a knock on them it’s a serious question.
You can have enough precipitation in a convective cell that it absorbs ALL the radar energy. Works like a wall in the sky as far as the radar is concerned. You'll get a lot of that in a hurricane.
@@ballisticarc Thanks, so they get data the radar etc. can’t, that makes sense.
