A lot of historic people, places, and events across the state that's for sure. Over the years we've been to a lot of the major ones. Jamestown, Williamsburg, Monticello, Mount Vernon etc. Going to hit the lesser known and smaller places this year. Looking forward to it. Thanks. Steve

One more within walking distance then I'll checkout the bigger more well known ones. A lot of little historic places around here have been destroyed or built on. I'm amazed at how many are still around. Take care. Steve

Great tour and video. Ft. Darling is a good one too, tall cannon positions over the James. If you ever get down to central Georgia, check out Andersonville prison. That place was a complete disaster. I went to it back in the late 90's.

Got plans on visiting Ft. Darling also. I've never been there either and looking forward to it. Got one more little one like this within walking distance then I'll branch out. Going to try City point next. Some nice earth works there and Appomattox Manor, National Registry homes, one of the busiest ports in the world back then. British troops, Benedict Arnold, Lincoln, Grant lots of famous and historic people spent time here. Hopewell played a big part in the founding and building of this country. Going to spend some time in western South Carolina this year might talk the wife into a side trip to Andersonville. Thanks. Steve

Grew up in bensley area and we rode our bikes all thru drewers bluff all in the trenches. Behind the old Wilson trucking company on jd highway and the back gate to defense General supply center.drive down drewers bluff rd and when almost get to back gate look to your right and you'll see some nice trenches, get you some tea and check it out!

That's over near Bensley Park ain't it? That's just down the road a piece. Would be an easy and nice afternoon for me. I'll check it out. I never knew or heard about that area of Drewers Bluff. Got plans to checkout the Fort Darling/Drewers Bluff park shortly. Thanks. Steve

This is very interesting to me since i love history. I try to put myself in their shoes, way back in time. What happened to the Lee monument?

I enjoy history as well just ain't no expert. Lived here all my life just never knew the history behind a lot of these places. Now I have the time and learning. "Woke Culture" took the Lee Monument. I'm not real sure what they did with it. Heard different things. Either they melted it down or donated it to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia. No telling. We have a road in Richmond called Monument Ave. there were a lot of statues there. Slowly but surely they took them all down except for the Arthur Ashe statue. J.E.B. Stuart, "Stonewall" Jackson, Jeff Davis and Matthew Fontaine ( the founder of modern oceanography) and confederate naval officer were also removed. Over a hundred years of history gone.Take care.
