I finally started using my GI Bill after about 6 years of being out of the marine corps and the days of carrying a binder and a book are over. I need to carry my lap top, charger, jacket, water bottle, edc gear. So I started watching the channel because I needed to find a new edc backpack. Your channel is fun and informative. I love it. Keep up the great work my man!
GREAT REVIEW! GREAT PACK! One thing I have not seen mentioned in comments yet but what sold me on the Eberlestock F5 Switchblade vs other packs like 5.11 and the little trick pack is that it is compatible with Eberlestock's modular systems. It seems this channel is geared toward EDC but with the Switchblade you can pair it with Eberlestock carrier frames (F1 or M1) and modular attachment packs and turn this EDC pack into the core of an aluminum framed, waist belted, BEAST of a camping/hiking/SHTF pack system with nearly limitless size, volume and application combinations. So you can haul this little guy around for EDC and then strap it into the carrier frame and slap on your camping pack or trauma kit or whatever the situation may be into a load bearing and ergonomic modular pack system. So I think is an excellent choice for EDC especially if you wanna still get value from the pack for hunting, camping or prepping.
Eberlestock and Arc'teryx reside in the top echelon of hunting, camping, and military backpacks. That's a very interesting take on a, "not an operator's, operator pack." Thanks for sharing. One.
@@nathankeel4308 MR makes very purpose built packs. If you're a medic or carrying some specific type of equipment MR is probably your best bet. I have this switchblade backpack myself. Love it it’s very tough and has held up fantastic. I also have their Tomahawk bag for overnighters and door we can pack trips. Plenty of room and versatility as well great durability.
Eberlestock are solid packs I have used them for years for Elk hunting and hold out 100's of pounds of meat and on deployments to Afghanistan. Their customer service is very helpful. Great review on the switchblade very informative. Keep up the good reviews.
Great video! The SwitchB is an excellent EDC, easily carries all necessary equipment for up to a 6 day GHB. I keep it in the back of my car, holds first aid kit, food, water straws, tarp/poncho, hygiene pack, lightweight net hammock, has a concealed carry section that is completely unobservable, etc., total loadout is 21 pounds, excellent piece of equipment.
One of the best reviews i've seen about a backpack!! Visually perfect and your description let me miss nothing. Thanks! Greetings from Germany Blackforrest
I have no idea how I haven’t seen your channel until just now, but I’m subscribing. This is a superb review that’s in-depth, honest, and insightful. Great pros and cons too. I just bought before I saw this, but your review definitely confirms my choice. Thanks for the review!
Eberlestock has been around for a while. They've made backpacks that the Special Forces use and these bags are incredibly durable. I forgot which pack it was but they loaded it with 600lbs before it broke a strap.
Good Review. One thing I find missing in a lot of these backpack reviews is if the bag can stand up on its own. There are some that don't and that is important to me.
Just bought the Switchblade for an upcoming deployment. I have the Terminator F4 that I used all over Iraq and Syria and I couldn't have asked for a better ruck. Eberlestock has been around since 1985 and they produce fantastic equipment. Do yourself a favor and look into their packs for your kit. I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed.
Great review! Just grabbed the exact same pack (black, w/ grey interior), and its definitely pretty invisible in an urban setting. If folks don't already know what it is, its not going to draw attention from most civilians. For the price I got it for, it was a total steal.
Elastic for the water bottles wear out. Draw string lasts forever. I have the bag and it is well engineered and constructed with quality material. The shoulder straps are perfect and I wouldn't change anything. The bag is not dope, I don't like the saying 😒. It is a great bag though with a lifetime warranty. The bag is priced fairly compared to 511 and first tactical. Like the Clay shirt though!
Nice choice. They are well known for their quality. I haven't tried their low key line. Being more rural, I can get away with things looking military surplus. I have their Low Drag pack. Which has served me well. Got it on the used (once then sat in their closet) market for a lower price. From an overnight stay to a carry on for a flight. This thing is a beast. I haven't needed to use the rifle scabbard for it's intended use. But it makes for a perfect laptop or jacket pouch. Also the most comfortable pack I've used. Been looking at the Switchblade for light everyday use and their Gunslinger 2 pack for more outdoor stuff. Thanks for sharing your take on the pack.
Please do the “little trick” also!!Im so glad you finally found this one! It is my travel bag for work and EDC when i cary a bad! The most comfortable shoulder harness i have ever used period. Stands up straight and allows access to the admin pouch on the top when sitting. My ONLY complaint is the watebottle pockets and i wish the bottom was thicker or rubberized since the bag is market to stand up. I ended up coating the base of my bag in flex seal. Keep up the good work george!!!!!!!
I run the Eberlestock Terminator, the adjustability makes it a great pack to run with kit when I have to ruck with kit on, overall love Eberlestock bags, great bags with thought out design, and great durability
Great review my man! Appreciate your opinion and knowledge and experience applied to reviewing this backpack. I went ahead and got one and found everything you said to be true. It's really a good pack (because I got it on sale)
Elastic on the water bottle pockets would eventually lose it's elasticity, a simple piece of cord will continue funcitoning the same way for way longer. Plus, I assume it can be more easily replaced than an elastic stitched directly to the pocket edge
Ah... Eberlestock. Yeah, that's one of my go-to brands for load bearing backpacks. I have this backpack. It's great if you need CCW capabilities, and it's generally a good all-purpose EDC bag. For my purposes, though, the back panel was not ideal. When this bag came out, I was hoping for an EDC bag that would seamlessly transition to a load bearing bag with a hip belt (the capabilities which it has, but I don't think you mentioned). The back panel just wasn't stiff enough to do that properly, and it just ended up deforming to the shape of my lower back. In any event, it's a really good bag. Bonus, is that you can attach it to their external frame pack (M1 Mainframe), but I found the G hook attachment system kinda loosey goosey as well. In the end, I went to using a Vanquest IBEX 35 without a hip belt for EDC, with hip belt for heavy load bearing. Slightly larger bag, very similar in design, but a bit more versatile in terms of flexibility and storage compartments. And... a stiffer back panel, so ended up being pretty ideal.
Eberlestock can thank you for the shout out as I never heard of them before. The compartments are well laid out. I'm more of a travel, airport commando and see the great uses for it. The compartments are great for battery charger, ear buds, magazine access at the airport without exposing all your contents. The top flap that exposed the molle when open is only good for attaching a bag like you said. I would have preferred to have a zip up pocket with translucent material that is waterproof instead of a flap with molle. It's a lazy use of space that could have been exploited. I'd consider this bag. It would hold enough clothes and my fishing reels for the travel that I do when i'm able to escape for a long weekend fishing trip when I fly. I don't think it's worth $200 though. Great review George, thank you.
Mystery Ranch, Eberlestock and Arc'teryx aren't really hidden gems, they're the lambo/ferrari/koenigsegg of the pack world....they don't have to advertise because it's necessity that will drive their customers to them. Live a certain way and you will find their products. Great content man, it's about time for a "1 year in the switchblade" review!
I'm actually replacing my Vertx Gamut Checkpoint with the Switchblade. Vertx turned out to be just a hair too short for my RDB-S rifle. Somebody is going to get a great deal on a 3 week old Vertx. I'm loving the Switchblade.
You earned a subscriber here. Great video. Eberlestock primarily makes military packs and really solid, high quality packs at that. As far as I have seen this is their first "civilian" bag. Looks awesome
Ive got the s27 little trick, i went in to their headquarters here in boise Idaho and glen the owner hooked it up! Even gave me a free hip belt for free with my purchase. I love the bag its bulletproof! They were pressing me to get the switchblade but i thought it was a little big for my use. Great review man! Thanks for all your hard work!
Just discovered your channel. Excellent review. Have heard of them before, and they make good stuff, in the same range as Kifaru. I like how you take your time and show actual use of the pockets and compartments, along with your opinions on how to improve the pack. Keep up the good work!
I too have an Eberlestock Switchblade. Love it, everyday bag. Also have a pack frame and another bag. Soon I’ll be getting a smaller bag for day hikes. Top quality stuff. I’ve been to their store in Boise. Were great guys!
I had a Switchblade b4.. its a great bag..However I found it kinda big n cumbersome especially in crowded places.. so in the end sold it n got myself a A19 Evade 1.5 Lite..no regrets..a greater bag over the Switchblade..
Eberlestock has great bags! I got a backpacking bag years ago, I can carry 90lbs about as comfortable at 60lbs in my first backpacking pack. I love the way they put pockets and organizers in a way that makes sense to me. I was teetering on this bag or a Cannae Legion pack, it looks like Eberlestock is the winner. Thanks for your review!
Excellent review of the pack. Appreciate the obvious honesty in your review. My step son is getting ready go to boot camp then A school and want to get him a go solid backpack for the school. Definitely on the top 3 list.
Finally a good review of the Switchblade! Thank you. I use an Eberlestock Halftrack a lot; it's a terrific pack, but I need something less obvious (and smaller) for EDC and was looking at this one. You answered all my questions about it.
Great video, and always honest. This was almost the PERFECT bag to go for, the only thing to let the bag down was the water pockets on the side and no compression straps. At 3.58 in the video when loaded with the plastic water bottle it looked as if the bottom of the bottle wouldn’t take long to rub or puncture through the pocket :( I feel if elastic was used to expand the bottom of that pouch the bottle would sit more cleanly and less prone to rubbing a hole in the bottle pocket when climbing between rocks or trees. Such a shame....
Eberlestock only advertises them as "cupholders." Theya re not tall. If there were taller, they would interfere with the side molle. I don't even consider them bottle holders. I have used the predecessor of the Bandit (H3 Sawed-Off Hydro) to hold the base of trekking poles, and even a small tripod. The strap is to keep small items from falling out. Anything larger than a cup will fallout. I lash the top of water bottles (or anything else tall) to the molle loops because if you swing the bag down, a tall item would fall out. On my bag, the pockets are very durable. I'd lash anything to be honest to deter theft.
I used Eberlestock’s gunslinger pack on deployment to North Africa in ‘11-‘12 and it absolutely failed me. Zippers broke down and seams started to wear out. I returned CONUS, called them and was told, “oh sorry, that was when we had manufacturing issues but that’s all resolved - we are better now”. Oh, great. Glad to hear. But I won’t risk myself to their gear again.

Nice review. Over the top on detail. Had a question about the laptop compartment, is it protected well? Currently own a 5.11 tactical backpack but the laptop isn't protected on the bottom so when I set down the backpack it hits the ground. I know you mentioned on the Eberlestock that its suspended but is it suspended enough?
First time seeing ur vids, I almost left when I heard u say u like backpacks but never heard of eberlestock but happy to say I stay tuned and I love ur review. You just gained a subscriber keep up the good work 💪
Eberlestock makes the very best “Operator’s” backpack. It truly is the highest recommended and used by all Spec-Ops military and private contractors for observer/shooter teams. It is called the “G4” and I know first hand ... it is truly a masterpiece of efficiency. Don’t choke and gag when you see the price ... this is not a toy, wanna be pack. This unit is entirely civilian tech, but as they have never compromised durability... it should out perform most packs in it’s class. From insertion to evac, the high end military models are as good as they get !
Hmmm, I'm thinking I like the Vanquest Trident over this one. I like the internal deep pocket and the molle with velcro. But @ $199 even that ”Je ne sais quoi” is bit sketchy for me. Are those side pockets big enough for Maxpedition Cocoon pouches?
I thought the switchblade came out after the date of this video. Was this an eval version that Eberlestock might have since changed on the currently available version?
Hello George I own this backpack and I’m very happy with it. I need a little more space than what the bag offers. In your opinion is the top of the backpack compatible with the Fannytop pouch from Eberlestock or is there something better out there , thanks !
It very much resembles the Vanquest IBEX... the IBEX always seemed kinda “plain” to me, that’s actually why I don’t have one. This has more organization to it so now I’m debating on getting one.
hey friend just wanted to say eberlestock is one of my most favorite companies.. their packs are designed for both hunting and military and law enforcement. they make the strongest bags ive seen. bags holding up to 700 and some pounds before malfunction. i own alot of their products. spendy but if you buy them you wont regret. most of their packs are tactical looking. about 95% of them even the so called hunting gear. its all tactial. they are a hidden gem but if you like their looks buy them cuz youll never be sorry. go see their website and look at all of them. you might want more!!! be well!!
Hey George, just randomly stumbled on your channel. I have no need or interest in the bag, but this was one of the best reviews I've seen for a bag. Appreciate the quality and work you're putting in.
Another great video. I really enjoy your approach and the use of the bottle and training weapon. Now that I have been watching more and more videos, I wish you had more of a scoring system for your final "grade." Like you, I carry a larger water bottle, so that can make or break a decision for me. I also do not carry a CCW, but can appreciate the untility of such compartments. Can I suggest a series of categories with your honest score in each, then if its between 8/10 and 10/10 it's great, 6/10 - 8/10 it's good, and so on. For your consideration! Please keep the great videos coming...I'm going back to watching more!
If you like this bag, you should definitely check Cannae ProGear backpacks. They have great options for EDC Grey man style and they are priced very friendly without sacrificing quality.

Tell her George said LET ME LIVE WOMAN!! lol See ya man!
Wow - this looks like a heck-uva bag for sure. Thanks George for another great bag review.
Really solid review, been looking for new pack for a while and this just may be the one, 🙏
Really good review man, informative with a super combination between your words and imaging! I’m definitely subscribing!
Thanks Dimitris! See man ✌🏾
Impressive review. I appreciate a down to earth review so much more than a gear geek review! Great content
Thanks for your time. What a great review.
I'm a backpack collector from way back and I enjoy your reviews. You do a great job
Cool.. What is your favorite from your collection? Be Safe ✌🏾
@@GeorgeDEFINED My continuous curse is that I can never settle on THE ONE! when it comes to EDC needs. However, when it comes to comfort and being light weight, I choose my Osprey Radial 34
I've never seen your channel before. But eberlestock; they make them right down the street from me, right here in Boise, ID. USA.
Nice! Yep we in here Daniel.. see ya ✌🏾
Nice detailed review! I'm gonna check your channel before I buy any packs now.
Thanks man!
That medical kit is a good idea. I'm going to have to get one. Thanks George.
Yep and it doesn't take up that much space.. Be Safe
?
Good review! Love my ES Lowdrag - solid kit, highly recommended.
Hell yeah Elmberlestock got the Gunslinger 2 / phantom both I use for hunting up in the hill country.
Nice! I don't hunt that far off the beaten path so I can always four wheeler in. If I ever needed a meat hauler I would check them out. See ya
George, I know this video is a few years old, but would you recommend this or the Mystery Ranch RipRuck 32? Thanks!
Excellent review. Well researched and presented! Thanks!
Great review, looking for a bag and found this brand today.
For me this can be a weekend bag as well. Sick bag!
First time seeing ur vids, I almost left when I heard u say u like backpacks but never heard of eberlestock but happy to say I stay tuned and I love ur review. You just gained a subscriber keep up the good work 💪
Thanks for sub!
Thanks for the insight!
Nice review - Eberlestock is killer…the real deal in all categories.
I think the Vanquest IBEX 26 maybe a better option, if I had to choose between the two.. IMHO
Your reviews are awesome! So this pack of the Vanquest Ibex-26??? Trying to get in on the post -turkey day savings 👍🏼
Vanquest.. All day day and twice on sundays,,
I thought the switchblade came out after the date of this video. Was this an eval version that Eberlestock might have since changed on the currently available version?
Awesome video bro. Love watching your videos. Keep up the cool work. 👍
Great review. Tnx. I'm a get one. Military green though.
I have the Halftrack and the Hispeed 2. The Switchblade is on the way. Great company.
Okay Cody! They must be okay if you have three of them....lol See ya
Hello George I own this backpack and I’m very happy with it.
I need a little more space than what the bag offers. In your opinion is the top of the backpack compatible with the Fannytop pouch from Eberlestock or is there something better out there ,
thanks !
I thought that in the Eberlestock video, they said this was made of 500D ripstop?
It very much resembles the Vanquest IBEX... the IBEX always seemed kinda “plain” to me, that’s actually why I don’t have one. This has more organization to it so now I’m debating on getting one.
A couple people have pointed out to that is looks a like the IBEX. Thanks for watching David.. See ya
My next bag George, great find!!!!!!!
hey friend just wanted to say eberlestock is one of my most favorite companies.. their packs are designed for both hunting and military and law enforcement. they make the strongest bags ive seen. bags holding up to 700 and some pounds before malfunction. i own alot of their products. spendy but if you buy them you wont regret. most of their packs are tactical looking. about 95% of them even the so called hunting gear. its all tactial. they are a hidden gem but if you like their looks buy them cuz youll never be sorry. go see their website and look at all of them. you might want more!!! be well!!
It looks like a maxpedition entity. But some things looks better. Eberlestock is great quality. Good review 😉👍🏻
I’ve had a couple different bags from them when I was In the army and absolutely loved them, I just ordered this one and hoping it gets here this week
Great review, and looks to be a great bag. I have an Eberlestock Cherry Bomb that I like quite a bit. I’m definitely gonna check this one out.
It's a solid option! Have a look..
Excellent, thorough vid. Thanks
so would you rather have this pack or the Kifaru Antero 2.0?
Thanks for opening the fridge, it was getting pretty chilly. Uh, can you open it up for me
Very good review bro , keep up the good work . Great presentation
Much appreciated!
Hey George, just randomly stumbled on your channel. I have no need or interest in the bag, but this was one of the best reviews I've seen for a bag. Appreciate the quality and work you're putting in.
Thx!
Hi George... here's the million dollar question. Now that you've tried out this pack as well as the Ibex 26, where one do you favour?
Great review George I liked your opinion on this backpack...... A viewer from Canada
I like the idea of a scoring system. See ya Peter ✌🏾
Thanks for the video! Well done! By the way, what's your favorite bag ever in the 23L to 28L range that you have reviewed?
Alpha One Niner Evade 1.5
Great review. I just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to see what other stuff you are into and review
Thanks for the sub..
If you like this bag, you should definitely check Cannae ProGear backpacks. They have great options for EDC Grey man style and they are priced very friendly without sacrificing quality.
Thanks for the suggestion! I got that in my cart right now... See ya
Nice video, I love backpacks too and switchblades! I’m really digging this backpack a lot, pretty sweet!
