The irony of something called "Word Of Mouth" is, like many Munchies videos, the 20 Gram Cafe PAID them to get this video produced and posted. Its advertorial. Sponsored content.
Hey munchies its been a month. I want a video. Like this is fine. I just watch these on my breaks between cooking meals at work. I need some new stuff to watch.
The reason why Costco can do it (take a loss), is because their business is purely making money off a subscription fee. They either make a loss or break even on literally everything else. No small business could do that.
@@jimbojimbo6873The other items in their shop are probably expensive, like with Costco people go there for the cheap food but then end up buying a TV or something expensive.
loss leaders are a thing in basically every business, its just harder to see sometimes in the case of costco theyre able to have such an extreme precieved loss leader because of the subscription fee the hotdogs alone cost over 5$ to make
Every small business needs to remember this, be good to your community and it will grow and be loyal. Glad to see that some people can remember what respect, love and value can do for a business.
they sound like how all bosses should be, so many businesses are short sighted and don't understand the power of a loss leader, thats money that would be wasted on marketing, but they are marketing through word of mouth and value
Doesn't make sense. Capitalism exists to enrich profit. I don't like that system, but as long as people want and support capitalism that will always be more important.
@@allanpeter7700This isn’t a burger place. This a grill inside of a grocery store. A normal burger place would go out of business if they did the same thing.
To be fair its a very nice grocery store, they carry a lot of good stuff at reasonable prices. They were also giving out grocery store discount coupons with the purchase at the cafe.
The burger for 2.55 is their lost leader. Like the 1.50 hot dogs are Costco or 5 dollar roaster chicken at Kroger. The food is already discounted so they can draw more customers. Why would they give out a coupon when the burger IS THE COUPON?
@@scottyhart7181 because some people need extra motivation to actually shop. Also builds good will for the brand, as customers love discounts on top of an already good deal.

I don't know how #Munchies always finds these great start up and family businesses to showcase that you can make it... but I am happy they do. Is there anything better than learning about people doing their own small part to make the world a better place? If you are in NYC please stop by and support them by hitting the grocery store (and maybe grabbing a burger to go). Thank you Munchies social media team for keeping your focus on highlighting great people doing amazing things.
they found it cuz of instagram and social media that trended it so popular and they just jump on the bandwagon that everybody follows so munchies isnt original haha
Yes, because, as the genius @randytessman6750 showed with his profound analytic insight above, this business is so successful (whatever that means, its subjective), and cares so much about making the world a better place, as proven by an 8 minute youtube video edited by Munchies. Thank you for drawing such profound conclusions and inferences from this youtube video, you are so smart.
This is a very common practice found in street markets all over South Korea. Kudos to Young Kim for taking business inspiration from his ethnic heritage!
I’ve worked for Young in the past. It was only for a few months but I can tell he is an upstanding person. Im happy to see him getting recognition, well deserved!
What people dont realize is its very clever marketing. They might not make any money on the burger but it gets people in the door, and talking, and sharing and clicking. this style burger (oklahoma fried onion burger) was invented during the great depression. meat was so expensive so they decided to add a handful of thinly sliced onions to smash into the patty to use less meat. The burger was invented at Hamburger Inn in El Reno, Oklahoma.
That burger looks amazing and for $2.55?!? Hell, makes me almost wish I still lived in Jersey. I'd hightail it over the bridge so fast. I remember how many miles we'd go for good food. Ah but gas was so much cheaper then.
idk what it was like then but today youd pay a $15 toll to enter ny from nj. and you can go around but youd have to drive 5 hours. and yes then youd probably spend more on gas than the toll would be.

Wow, those look like great burgers, regardless of the cost. Reminds me of a place I enjoyed in Akron, OH back in the 1970s. Place called Thacker's. Mom and pop place with just one big grill. It was right outside the Goodyear factory, so catered to the factory crowd. They just kept the smash burgers and buns going 100 at a time on the grill. They sold them by the dozen (think they were 10 cents back then). They kept their formula simple - the burger came with onions, pickle, and mustard. If you asked for catsup or cheese, you would get laughed at and shown the door. No fries or any other menu items, although you could get a back of chips.
