Rear Headrest Mod', 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

- Short story: The rear head rests will lay back and out of sight unless needed. The modification provides a tremendous increase in rearward visibility. When there are passengers in the back seat then simply raise the head rests into position where they will lock in place and work as normal.
Details: This video describes the process that allows the rear headrests in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited to remain flipped back and out of the rear view field of vision when there are no passengers in the rear seats. When there are passengers in the rear seat then the headrests can simply be flipped back up. They will remain locked in proper upright position until the seats are released and flipped flat, at which point the headrests are released backwards normally. But when the seat is raised, the headrests will remain flipped backwards until manually lifted back into the upright position.
Other mod's I've made to my Jeep can be seen on my personal web site at www.fshrmen.net...
my kids car seat kept getting pushed forward because of the headrest and now it leans back more comfortable for my boy to sleep. GAME CHANGER!
Just traded my 2010 Jeep Liberty for a 2016 Jeep JK. This is a no brainer & makes a Tremendous Difference in being able to see out of the back window when you do not have passengers riding with you. Thank You.
Thank you! Why the factory doesn't offer this, is beyond me. I always kept the seats down when I owned a crew cab Colorado because of the obstruction. That, and it was a great place for my two small dogs to ride.
hell of a blind spot with the head rests up for sure, off to try this on my 2018, Many Thanks for figuring it out
TIME !....took about 25 minutes, small screw driver and 4 zip ties, no more blind spot, Many Thanks
Thanks Andrew. Excellent use of video and subtitles. You broke it down into easy to follow steps which anyone can follow. ++
Andrew this is awesone thanks! No more ridding with the seat down which makes more road noise. I often think about removing the spare. Big help.
Thanks for showing us how to do this one. So much better rear viewing!
Great tip! Worked on my 2014 Sahara!
It is. It's perhaps the one simple one I like and use most.
Excellent Video. Greatly increased my Rear View
This is fantastic. Thank you! I would add one tip: Hit the buttons to remove the headrests first. It's easier to see and if you slip with a tool you don't gouge them.
Thanks. Just did this on my 2016 wrangler unlimited. Super easy.
OMG huge like.
I’ve been looking for it since I bought the Jeep.
Thank you so much.
I'm glad it helped.
Works great on my 2018 JKU Rubicon. Thanks
Glad it worked for you.
Oh man, i'm doin this asap. Thank you.
Great tip I'm gonna try this thanks
My man👍🏻
Very good. I'm glad it helped.
Wooooo Hooot!! Worked on my 2014 :)
Nice thanks
I just did this. Thanks...
on the 2 door I either fold the seat up or remove the head rests...
Great mod
Just got a 2017 JK unlimited Willys and was wondering about some mods to do to it...just found this video off of the Jeep Wrangler forum and it is an awesome quick upgrade! You have my subscription:) Not sure you are still on here but is there a basic tool kit for the JK like screw head sizes, wrenches, etc...?
Mine came with a basic set, but I've since sold it. I fear I'm not going to be any help.
@@LindsayFamily Glad to see you are still here...lol...thanks am learning all this stuff:) I have the Jeep kit for the doors and all I guess my other tools will work once I figure out the common ones for the jeep.
Done!
looks like the mechanism in my son's unlimited is rusted , i'll try this mod before i firebomb the jeep.
Performed the mod like shown in this video. Head rest does not fold back when the seat is moved forward. Ugh, going to a forums for Jeep JKs.
@@beeman1134 worked for me on 2014 try it again ?
Sandy Fish I have removed the spring off both posts of the headrest, does not tip back.
@@beeman1134 I had to fold the seats forward to get the headrest to go back. Then pull the seat back up in an upright position and the headrests stayed 'flat' out of view. I did see a different video, more difficult, but you can remove the factory seat covers, which gives you access to the cable and then the headrests can be completely removed. Good luck to you!
Sandy Fish that’s the guy in Australia or South Africa. The release cable at the bottom of the seat. Not that much a inconvenience, don’t have to use the vehicle to move furniture etc.
Preciate this very much.
Can those headrests be removed?
Thank you!!!!
Would this make a rear passenger, otherwise not in the middle, where no headrest resides anyway, more susceptible to whiplash, in the event of an accident, as the now spring-less headrest might be more likely to not resist forces towards the back of the vehicle?
I'm not trying to poo poo this idea---just get a handle on the implications of this change.
Dave Jones, this mod' only allows the headrest to remain back and unseen when the seat is up. It has no impact on the function of the headrest when it is up. All the spring does is lift the headrest into position where a different mechanism locks it in place. The lock is not impacted with disabling the spring.
Ia there a way to remove them all together? I dont want them just flipped back cause my dog rides back there.
I have no idea. I no longer have the Jeep.
Can the spring be enabled again if desired after this mod?
As explained in the video, that is the purpose of employing zip ties instead of just disengaging the spring.
Just tried this….it didn’t work 😑
Is your Jeep a 2015 Wrangler Sport? If not, you may want to search for the solution specific to your model. Other years and models may differ. If yours is the same model as mine, review the video and see if there are any steps that you missed. This mod has worked for everyone I know.
@@LindsayFamily I have a 2010
Typical fucking Jeep...take a task that should be a simple as pushing a button at the base of a headrest post...but noooo....
Another reason new Jeep interiors suck. Not sorry.
