Pioneer 80 PRS famous for high-fidelity sound quality not for power output. I can use Pioneer 80 PRS for home audio and it can even compare to some hi-quality DAC,. Ken wood? Not so much but you can be right about everything except sound quality.
There isn't a better value for a head unit with comparable features IMO. Regarding the use case with the sub RCA output and speaker output, just increase the sub output level at the head unit and turn the gain down at the sub amp to compensate. This might be tricky for the average Joe to get dialed in, but it would be worth doing. This gets you a hotter signal to the sub amp, which subsequently yields cleaner output in the end. Also, I may have missed it, but what were the EQ/sound enhancement settings when you were doing all these tests? Were all of them turned off and EQ was flat? Did you just test it with the default out-of-the box settings?

One thing about the prs is it's a detachable face plate which is ok on smaller systems but you see modifications to keep the connection tight or it gets sloppy and the connection starts failing on powerful systems. EXO has a zip tie around his faceplate.

If pioneer just put the exact same features of the PRS in a double din with optical out and the ability to bypass the internal amp they would have the market.
Just open it, and do same on 80prs. You will see diference in quality parts. This Kenwood is waaay worse. Currently is 80prs best 1 din radio in his price range. And for quite a lot of years now. Decent sq sound and a lot of audio settings. Also multiline screen, which is today hard to find on 1din car radios. His problem is not suporting Flac format, and now very popular spdif/coax digital output which doesn't have them. Please be so kind and do some similar tests on new series of Joying Android 10!
My jvc kw-r940bts has pretty much the same settings. It’s a double din with a similar layout to your pioneer and was only $99. The stuff like car type and speaker size compensates for deficiencies and seems to work pretty well. If you have a passive front stage changing the tweeter size helps match their output to the mids. Overall I’ve been really impressed
jvc is kenwood.. if you look on the back it actually says JVCKENWOOD. I asked why jvc is in front of kenwood. i was told its because J is before K in the alphabet.. so the brand name is now Jvckenwood...
80PRS KILLER.?? I think not!!! okay...Flac...if this would have a optical output it would win..But why put the volume at 75%? I had a pioneer prs80..and i gain matched it to full volume..Because the PRS does not distort at full volume...And when you take full volume on the headunit doesn't that mean less stress on the amps??
The reason I mentioned 75% volume is because that’s what a lot of manufacturers recommend when setting the gain. I suppose they assume you’re not setting the gain with an o scope or dd-1. But I set my gains the same way you do.
One DOPE feature this has is the Tweeter crossover. On passive component sets, the head unit will attenuate every frequency above the set point so that your tweeter doesn't get hit with too much power. This is much better than just an EQ because every frequency is affected evenly so dips aren't as prevalent
Just a guess but I'd say the speaker sizes in the app would be based off the kenwood series speakers and it would set the crossovers for those speaker sizes...possibly eq to get those speakers to a flater response as a bass line....that's what I would do
What’s the differences between Kenwood Excelon KDC-X304 & kenwood KDC-BT378U. Too me they both look the same. I would really appreciate it if you can help me out. I just seen the KDC-BT378U in stock in my local Best Buy. Or should I order Kenwood Excelon KDC-X304 off Amazon?
Internal amps are noise generators and are a waste of space inside the headunit . You people need to control what the manufactures build and sell not the other wag around .
That is a way cool feature that should be incorporated into headunits these days. You could do so much more with the app than doing it on the headunit. Now if they could make it a standard to put a digital audio output. Either Toslink or Spdif would be nice. Great video Robert!! 👌
After setting my KDC-X304 with DD-1 I can turn my hu up to 31-32 easily before my amp starts clipping. I'm running a Wolfram AW250.4, W250.4, and a Wolfram C90.4, and a Wolfram W7500 with excellent sound quality.
I liked Clarion receivers back in the day, but havent really come across anything they had that wows me these days as far as their head units. However, about 4 or 5 years ago, I did purchase the clarion eq7 and tested or ran other brands on the market and that was the best one of that style I tried out. Still have it and it still works. Can't say the same for others in that price point that I tried. I prefer kenwood decks these days. Just had too many reliability issues with pioneer over the years.
Man this sucks b/c I just bought the Kenwood KMM-BT32U for like $60 after using Crutchfield points. Looks like the KMM-X704 is the digital media version of this one for $130. DAMMIT! Guess I should have done more research before pulling the trigger :-D

No way near an 80 prs killer. No auto eq, internals are not the same quality as the 80 prs, eq is smaller, 80 prs is 16 band per channel
Have a Kenwood x998 and a pioneer prs80 ..... I hate my Kenwood...pioneer build quality needs to be better on the prs though....
I prefer kenwood/jvc decks. I have a refurb JVC, paid $35 on ebay. Best deck for the money IMO. My test shows my deck clips at volume 34
What phone do you have? I've got the kmm-x503 and the app never worked as well as their video, showed. I've tried it on iPhone XS, iPad, and Galaxy S7. It's useable but not a well designed app.
iPhone 11
Mine iPhone 11Pro on a Kenwood kdcX7200Dab+ is useable but really slow
Pioneer deh s4220bt only 90 bucks I would like to see how it stacks up
Aside from the crappy bluetooth range and connectivity speed and ah ok touch screen response my pioneer avh-210ex double din dvd/cd touch screen has most of those same features time alinement, crossovers, 13 band EQ, color change ECT other than the oddball one like speaker size... it was around $140. One thing about the prs is it's a detachable face plate which is ok on smaller systems but you see modifications to keep the connection tight or it gets sloppy and the connection starts failing on powerful systems. EXO has a zip tie around his faceplate.
I always run a pre-out eq. My hifonics is 9 volts output and I can keep my volume low and sound clean. It's in the tuning.
Isnt there a difference between clipping and distortion? Ths thing wont touch the PRS-80 but for a budget headunit seems to be a good investment.
I only tested the internal amp to clipping and if you’re using the built in amp you’re kind of missing the whole point of the 80prs. The RCA’s were measured to 1% thd
@@HifiVega Your absolutely right about the internal amp and the 80-PRS. It is best used 3 way active through the RCAs. My comment was simply that unit you were testing is great for a budget unit but no where close to the 80-prs..The question about clipping and distortion was just to seperate the two as different things. Clarification is all
I love my KDC-X304! It supplies all of my needs for the system in my truck! 💪
80prs killer? No. Not even close. Great budget deck for a basshead yes.
The 80prs is such an old and out dated head unit.. there is so many more head units that are better than the 80prs
@@schons77iceman name some I’m in the market 😂
@@rafaelrosales9046 most new double dins by pioneer or alpine or kenwood offer all the features the 80prs does.. I have a jvc head unit that does everything the 80prs does minus the network mode and doesn't clip even at max volume.. just do some research
@@schons77iceman 80prs doesn't clip. And network mode is why most of us get the 80prs to begin with. This one literally clipped on 24/35 lol thats terrible
@@michaelburch5594 if the 80prs is so good then why aren't they making them anymore??? And clipping has alot to do with the input signal weather it's from Bluetooth or from USB or from cd
Been a Kenwood guy, since I had a pull-out version #1990s 😆 Once I tried the Excelon model, it’s the only one I buy now. Thanks for sharing 👌🏾
Hello, which stereo is better today, the KDC-X304 or KDC-x705? I want to buy one of the two devices but I don't know which one to choose.
The 705 has HD radio
Kdc-x305 is this an upgrade for the x304 and still prs80 killer? I want the product but only find used. And I am replace factory head unit for my Land Rover Discovery.
OG!! The rotary volume knob is a must! Glad I got rid of my avh1300nex, might have to pick one of these up!
^TrueOG^
That answered my question, true dead head fan here!
does this head unit have a momentary audio interruption when adjusting the eq ? I just bought a new double din excelon and when you adjust the bass, mid or treble there is an interruption of the audio signal. kenwood says this is normal.
I didn't understand why these crazy builds have a single din but less is more if u don't care for a screen baller
Single din for life!
Bcuz their 1 note wonders
I didn't realized that to get 4-5v RCA pre-amp volt you need to be near max volume?! Thought its was always for all range of volume at 0-100% you get max 5v RCA ... dam!
My Pioneer FH-S701BS has all of those features too and it was less than $150.
Pioneer makes some dope entry level units as well
pioneer app doesn't have q factor this has, however both should have parametric eq not just standard frequencies.
@@katexpero2 no, it doesn't have q factor, but it does have network mode, which the Kenwood doesn't.
DAAAMN BRO!!! You beat me to it!!! This is the stereo that's going into my SPL van build
Yesssir!
I’m quick like a ninja!
INDEED!!!
You've been hanging around dean to long. Lol
😃
@@HifiVega and Deric are like pees and carrots.

Thank you! I truly appreciate the feedback especially when it’s positive 😂
@@HifiVega lol
Can you recommend me something that might cost more I’m willing to spend 250
Would a single sub out on my deck cause my amp to not function in high pass filter setting on my amp?
Your still not gonna get the same sound as the 80prs it’s the only single din I’ve ever ran
That app does not work like you said, only thing it does is the color settings and volume eq and crossover setting don't change a thing.
So what do you think is the better single-din unit I wanted to put one in a classic car is it the DH 80 PRS pioneer is it the Kenwood is it the Sony I'm doing a three-way speaker in the back base tube or box and single highs in the front if knowing that helps at all which will probably be driven by 2 amps a four-channel and one amp just for the base
My $60 pioneer has all that!!!!
The 80prs has much better internals .. the king off headunit before stepping up to a dsp
Sorry Roberto, alpine did it in the late 90s-early 2000 with my 7995 which I have retired to my work truck and it still sounds awesome 👍😎
You should also test the RCA outputs under a load ( powering an amp ). Usually you will get different / more accurate or " Real world" numbers on voltage and at what volumes you reach it. Most electrical signals in general will change or act differently under a load. Just Fyi, Love the reviews!
I wish you would do the Pioneer DEH-S4220BT. I know its entry but is well liked
Does anybody have the problem we’re im on Bluetooth and it stops my music and says announcements
An entry level Kenwood (wich is JVC), 80prs killer?!?!? So, the medium level Kenwood, is the p99rs killer! ...Sorry I did not understand, about what 80prs is limited compared with this kenwood???
It was a bit of a joke the 80prs is no longer being made so it is actually dead
@@HifiVega Dead?!?!? The Alpine 9835 is still alive more than ever!!! My 80prs has a big problem, the Pioneer official technical assistance is not able to fix it, I want to buy a new one but, the few 80prs on the market has increased their prize!!! In the next years, 80prs is gonna be much more than the Alpine 9835!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@supermassiveblckman the plant that made the dsp chips they used went under
@@HifiVega can you explain? I didn't understand anything, even using translator
@@supermassiveblckman they used a certain dsp chip for the Pioneer 80 prs and it isn’t being made anymore forcing them to quit production. Of the 80prs
Is there anything under 200$ with built in amp @40 watt RMS????? I'm building a system
Better watch out with that amp at the end you'll be SHOK---ED🤣
OG 😉
You can buy Kenwood KMM-BT328U for 104 right now with same features.
www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZPDJB5J/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_6r-UFbEYZ3RZH
If pioneer just put the exact same features of the PRS in a double din with optical out and the ability to bypass the internal amp they would have the market.
I swear they do make that unit I just can’t recall the model number off the top of my head
@@HifiVega I know in Japan they have one its a pioneer carrozzeria I believe.
Would be better if the manufactures would make all decks preouts clean all the way up too full volume.
He went over all that, did you pay the bill? The attention bill. lol I crack my self up!
One DOPE feature this has is the Tweeter crossover. On passive component sets, the head unit will attenuate every frequency above the set point so that your tweeter doesn't get hit with too much power. This is much better than just an EQ because every frequency is affected evenly so dips aren't as prevalent
I’ve had the KMM 304BT for years and that too is awesome. Dont know what they have changed but Kenwood is great budget options for us plebs. :)
4:04 ground??
Just a guess but I'd say the speaker sizes in the app would be based off the kenwood series speakers and it would set the crossovers for those speaker sizes...possibly eq to get those speakers to a flater response as a bass line....that's what I would do
What’s the differences between Kenwood Excelon KDC-X304 & kenwood KDC-BT378U. Too me they both look the same. I would really appreciate it if you can help me out. I just seen the KDC-BT378U in stock in my local Best Buy. Or should I order Kenwood Excelon KDC-X304 off Amazon?
I’m not familiar with that other model so I can’t really say. Sorry
So they are not the same?
When pioneer decided it was ok to allow bluetooth connection but not allow music streaming is when I stopped paying attention to pioneer.
Internal amps are noise generators and are a waste of space inside the headunit . You people need to control what the manufactures build and sell not the other wag around .
Yeah, I run a higher end double end excelon for my system, and love it, the sq is fantastic in my opinion!! Thumbs up 👍 👌
I love the Toyota speacials on the blue cd gold players and I don't need the money in layers I got wooden Penny's jin and juice man
You should try Alpine UTE-73BT
That is a way cool feature that should be incorporated into headunits these days. You could do so much more with the app than doing it on the headunit. Now if they could make it a standard to put a digital audio output. Either Toslink or Spdif would be nice. Great video Robert!! 👌
Digital out would be awesome, but I imagine they gotta save some stuff for their higher end units.
Make a video on the Kenwood KDC-X305 eXcelon
After setting my KDC-X304 with DD-1 I can turn my hu up to 31-32 easily before my amp starts clipping. I'm running a Wolfram AW250.4, W250.4, and a Wolfram C90.4, and a Wolfram W7500 with excellent sound quality.
🤯🤯🤯🤯 honestly,I'm a Clarion man bit my next choice would be kenwood and jvc, alot of kenwood head units have peco fuse issues
yes sir same here still have my old school clarion but kenwood excelon would be next best
I had this radio and took it out pioneer for the win
Great value but idk about it being a 80 prs killer lol
Great head unit
Can you search songs by name or letter ?
I’ll have to try that and see because I honestly don’t have a clue
It does not produce the same quality sound as the prs80 hands down.
We in this cell phone down like four flat tires on a caddy daddy Snoop dog
Man this sucks b/c I just bought the Kenwood KMM-BT32U for like $60 after using Crutchfield points. Looks like the KMM-X704 is the digital media version of this one for $130. DAMMIT! Guess I should have done more research before pulling the trigger :-D

I think the reason many rav about the prs is that its 3 way active. Otherwisemost all its other feature are matched fo sho

Ahh man that sucks
Solid, punchy lows... Get a clarion.
I have the Kenwood excelon x301 cd player.

Good review of a high feature head unit. The app control is great idea since navigating through clicks and turns on the deck can be such a pain. Thanks for emphasizing the true speaker outputs of this and most other decks. I’ve had to explain so many times how meanigless those 40 watts+ claims are to people asking my advice.
Thanks man I appreciate the feedback!
