You probably dont give a damn but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Jorge Kane Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Some are great photographers, others great teachers, you are without a doubt both. I love how you made this subject so easily understandable to the non technically inclined. I'm amazed how much you can bring a photo to life by making all these selective adjustments, great video Nick.
Nick, I can't begin to thank you enough for taking the time to make these tutorials! I have undoubtably learned more from your last couple post processing videos than I have from anyone else on youtube.
Saw you've not been doing videos for a bit but can I just say this has been the best tutorial for this I have seen. You have a knack for teaching! Please carry on. Your voice and your content is much appreciated.
Great Video... I Love how you keep things simple and use very precise and clear explanations. I hope we see many more like this since Photoshop can be very daunting to us beginners :-))
Please do give more of these Photoshop tutorials as I am really trying to learn Photoshop but finding it really hard to understand. Your calm way of teaching really simplifies the complexity of Photoshop. This tutorial has really helped me understand layers and masks a lot more
I have always had trouble getting into photoshop as it seemed very complicated, thanks for proving me otherwise and for the very clear explanation. Good on you Nick. :)
Great style, super informative and right-paced. Loved it. And... that beard is just super-badass. You should use Slipknot for your background music. lol
So glad I found your tutorials. Your ability to explain things simply is great and that you touch and explain the minor details is great. Am now a huge fan.
Excellent mate. I completed a three-year-long photography course back in 2010 - My teacher NEVER explained AAAAANY of this, THIS clearly or well. Thanks for clarifying my understanding :)
great job! much appreciated! i'm just getting into layer masks and most of the tutorials I have found seem to be "too much" or "not enough", often not specifying... clearly.... things like, "this is the icon you have to click on to generate a layer mask". with photoshop, I often get the feeling like I have to know how to do everything before I am able to do anything. this video removes that hurdle by answering the all important, "here's what you need to know to get started... and actually be able to do something" question. nicely balanced! thanks!
Earlier this year I told myself I wouldn't be intimidated by PS anymore & with the lunar eclipse, I did my first PS image....then _never_ went back into PS again 😅 I don't know exactly why, but it's overwhelming & I know it's a stupid/superficial issue to be hindered by when learning something new, but I let it hold me back. *THIS HELPS TREMENDOUSLY* 🙌🏽 I will give it a go (again lol). I'm determined to get the hang of it to be a better photog!
Dude - Thank you for being so free with your immense knowledge. You're teaching style is amazing and I've learned so much from both your photography and photoshop tutorials. Wish I'd know you when I lived up in Seattle, you'd have probably had a stalker LMAO. - Thanks Again
Jeez. I come from back when Adobe Photoshop CS98 was the hot stuff. Did everything with it EXCEPT photography. Webdesign, Logos, creative stuff and painting. Used CS12 a ton and then everything stopped with my 9-5 job. Picked up Photography as a hobby and learned Lightroom hard. Photoshop was still in my mind so it was hard to wrap my brain around Lightroom. Now I am fully stuck in Lightroom and when I open Photoshop I remember everything I did and how it works - but transitioning between Lightroom and Photoshop is brutal. I wanna lift my shadows a tiny bit and increase the saturation. Lightroom: Easy peasy. Here is your sliders. Photoshop: What?! Where?! Not that I cannot find the info. I know this stuff because I used it a ton back then. But re-learning that Photoshop is NOT "Shadows, Highlights, Whites and Blacks" is really difficult for me. Little stuff like dropping shadows or Blacks until they are "real black" is easy in Lightroom. Hold ALT while dragging the slider. In Photoshop? No freakin' clue. I need some crash-course on how to translate Lightroom-Editing to Photoshop-Editing. How to do X in Lightroom and then how to do the SAME THING in Photoshop.
What's up Nice? Good video. I'm surprised I haven't seen this video before. Well, I guess, better late than never. You were really thorough with everything basic about the whole operation. Good job my friend. Peace!!!
Another great video. I learn so much from your tutorials. I would like to ask you a technical question about your PC. I am running a Ryzen 7 2700, an RTX 2070 and 36GB RAM but when I use a brush to reveal on a layer, my PC lags way behind the brush strokes I am making. What do you have running in your system that allows you to make real time adjustments with your brush? Thanks for any advice.
Like the video. Heard about you via "Picturing Success" podcast. Do you happen to have any videos on a more manual focus stacking method? Seems the PS "Auto blend Layers" frequently gets it wrong... Thanks Doug
It is by far one of the best explanatory videos I have seen on the subject. It's a pity that Lightroom doesn't integrate these tools. A huge thank you from Switzerland
Excellent lesson, thanks Nick. For me, a non-American, it’s great that you speak fairly slowly and clearly. Any chance you can do a quick show how you set up your PS desk space? Mine gets really cluttered. First thing I learned, move the tool bar over to the right!
Love your videos on all things Photoshop as well as Luminosity masks and your clear explanations. You’re the Virgil Donati / Vinnie Colaiuta of Photography. I’m sure you know what I mean. Thanks for the amazing tuition on UA-cam
Just got photoshop. Ive been using Lightroom classic 6.14 for years and love the workflow. But, once I installed photoshop I was dumbfounded on its complexity, after this video, im hooked on these videos. I feel like im taking an editing course in college but 1 on 1. Well done. This dudes a fantastic teacher.
‘’If I say it enough times you guys will get it’’ lol That’s hilarious I have rewound and watched sections of this five times. excellent tutorial Mr. Thank you. I’m honestly confused what did the 12 people that gave a thumbs down see?
I'm an amateur so maybe I'm confused, but why did you use a semi transparent brush instead of lowering the opacity of the brightness layer? Great video, thanks.
VERY useful. Brilliantly clear explanation. I'm an Affinity user but I'm sure it will translate across. I like that I'll be able to use my tablet monitor to help with this too. Thanks for sharing. I'm horrified that you have tea in a Guinness mug btw. 😉
Nick, I have a brand new Wacom Intuos Pro Medium tablet and was wondering if you would share you button set up, or at least recommend a starting point. Thanks!
Nick can I use layer mask to simulate boke in a picture? I tried to blur the background on a picture and after many hours selecting what I wanted sharp, it did not work. But watching your video I thought I could duplicate my base layer and apply a progressive Gaussian blur. The use a layer mask to hide the portion I want to reveal (sharp) from the base layer. Will it work?
Is your Essential Photoshop for Landscape Photography course applicable to all forms of photography? i.e. It's a photoshop course with a slant towards landscape. I shoot food/product but I like the way you teach and would buy the course if it'll apply.
Hello, very clear explanations, thank you. What is the screen or touch pad that you were using with the sylus to make the adjustments in Photoshop please? Seems more intuitive than trying to work with the keyboard thnaks
Nicely done, some of the clearest explanations on how layers work. 😊❤️
Agreed. Was going to write that very sentence.
Yeah he has a great way of making complex theories and features just seem like common sense.
You probably dont give a damn but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account??

Thanks Nick, this really helped me. Just got LR and PS.
Thanks from Ireland. I love the pace and repitition.
Ok, now I'm dangerous. Thanks Nick!
Hi Nick, great video. Did you use ND filters with the photo of the ice and do you recommend ND filters?
Thanks Nick, very nice tutorial. you made the layer concept so easy to understand. Good work :)
Excellent. As others have said, nice and simple. For the first time I feel as though I have an actual understanding of what is going on. Thanks Nick

Where did you hide for a year? I wish I found you long ago, what a clear explanation, at last I understand thank you so much!!
Others have already said it- really useful information and clearly explained. Thank you!
Nick, we must build you a "Layer Mask Statue" for the best explanation I have heard on that topic !
Thanks for that video. It's super cool. Well done. :-)
Nice done.
Just LR user because I’m afraid of the large amount of stuff in PS.
Well done Nick, one of the best explanations I have ever heard. I learned a lot.
The summer doldrums must be weighing on you. A bunch of tutorials on LR and PS.
Like you I can not wait for better light&weather for taking images.
Excellent video. The detailed examples helped me understand how to use masks.

Thanks Nick for an excellent plus clear & easy to understand video on layer masks in Photoshop.
Very nicely done and beneficial Nick. Thanks for doing these.
This was so helpful to me, clear calm instructions! Thankyou very much
I like those videos. Great work. Do you like your WACOM for editing. I think it is not so easy to work with.
I just need to learn how to make layer masks quicker but this video definitely helped clear up some questions
Nice touch using the ice images as you scratch the tip of the PS layer mask iceberg! Great video!
