The deep v neck t-shirt is fine as an UNDERGARMENT. It keeps your shirt nice and neat, free of sweat in the summer months and it won’t show around the neckline if you’re not wearing a tie.
Sound advice Antonio. The sooner men start dressing somewhat more classic the sooner they'll find out that it comes with more respect. Men today in general dress way too young for their age.
Ong bro, saw this kid walk on the sidewalk the other day and when I noticed that he wasn’t wearing a 3 piece suit I pushed him into a ditch, I kept walking and as I looked back over my shoulder I called him a peasant.
I always wear funky socks if I wear trousers, it show I can be serious in a suit but don't take myself serious with my colorful socks. My usual tie bar is my Marine Corps issued one
I think wearing fun coloured/patterned socks can add a lot to your outfit. Of course you got to colour match it, but they are often a great conversation starter. I love art-inspired socks, for instance I wore a khaki summer suit with a white button up and cognac shoes/belt to my sister’s wedding, together with a very light/blue greenish pair of socks with a sunflower pattern inspired by Van Gogh. Or, when I need to wear a jacket (black) and tie (red with white pattern) to my student rowing club I have socks matching with the tie pattern which I wear with the traditional preppy combination of beige chinos.
As for #10 and sock colors, I personally try to match my Socks to my shirt color. I have a light brown pair of Chukka's that I even sometimes swap in the colored laces to match my socks and shirt. Did this recently with a yellow button-down shirt, yellow socks, and yellow laces paired with dark jeans and had multiple comments about brightening up the room and once they noticed the socks and laces also matching they realized more thought went into brightening the room than just a shirt.
I avoid white socks and solid black socks. Old school dress socks look so dated now days. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a flashy pair of Stance socks with pretty much any outfit. Always looks good
I have tons of patterned colorful socks. I try to grab a pair that matches the majority of colors to the shoe and the pant and then I look at the shirt for the remaining. I'm the same way though, I've had people compliment my socks and not the expensive shoes they are tucked into lol. Oh and Chukka's are great to do that with because of how quick you can change laces.
@@neo7759 100 percent. If you are smart with colors you can wear them even with chino's and sneakers and get lots of compliments. It can go bad when people don't really think about how the colors work though.
Antonio, yours is the best channel by far! Also the way you prsent it is very professional. I have benefitted hugely from it. My lost self confidence has been hugely restored by applying and regularly following the material covered. Well done my friend!
The only time I ever do black pants with a blue blazer is for more "casual" outings with friends. The blue is a deep navy blue that honestly even in the day you can barely tell its blue.
Your videos should be obligatory in schools. I know that this would have an opposite effect, but I think more young men should wach such advice. I am quite new to the channel and im just digging through the content, love your perfume series. I hope to find videos on how to take care of clothes. How to clean a suit at home without taking it to the drycleaner, how to irin a shirt so it doesnt get shiny and what order. Collar first or sleaves. A lot of people dont know this and need such info.
I like to go with blazers that don't match the pants but they both complement each other for when I'm going for casual bur stylish looks. and I do a suit for more formal or business occasions
One caveat to the over knee shorts. I longboard(the skateboard kind), and whole yes I do wear protective gear, have just that little be of extra length means the difference between road rash and a fun time.
I feel validated on my thoughts about the half tuck! it just seems kind of silly. something of a trend, I guess. definitely not a classic or timeless look.
Antonio - you've helped me a lot with upgrading my wardrobe and style. Thank you. Now...please allow me to help you. I'm a retired fitness professional who's dedicated his life to fitness. Antonio...PLEASE stop the 5 mile jogs. As you get older, the risks of "slogging" (slow jogging) far outweigh the rewards. If you're going to run, do all-out 20 second sprints, and hard hills. Weights, sprints, and hills. Your joints will thank me in 20 years.
Banana Republic really struggles with the logo issue. I used to have some really comfortable BR cotton polos, but they had an elephant logo that looked like a bird dropping from a few feet away. Now they use an oversized BR monogram that looks equally awful.
Good video. I agree with what you say except for the following two points. Shorts. I admit that I hardly ever wear them except in certain situations, such as when I'm at the gym or the beach. As an adult male, I tend to regard them as something usually worn in public by kids. When I do wear them on a hot summer's day, they tend to extend below the knee; anything shorter and I feel like a child. Having said that, most of the shorts I own are cargo pants. Logos. I concur that shirts with huge, ridiculous looking logos ought to be avoided. However, I like to wear Nike/Adidas track jackets on casual occasions. This "gopnik" look is fine, so long as the logo is on the top left corner and not emblazoned in the center of the jacket.
Shorts are easy, just let them hit above your knee if you are normal or average build. The bigger your quads are and the more fit you are, you can move up a few inches from there. It's like how not every women can pull off yoga pants. btw, you actually showed a perfect way to do colored socks. I do this all of the time. The guy in the middle had striped socks that matched both his shoes and his trousers. I do it with stripes, herringbone, polka dots, houndstooth etc. Sometimes I get compliments on my socks and not my shoes lol
Antonio, What are your thoughts /advice on wearing knee high socks with shorts? I ask because I need to wear compression stockings but occasionally like to wear shorts. I always feel a little self conscious about wearing the combo.
I agree that the half tuck looks a bit rubbish. I friend that works in fashion said that it’s called the ‘French tuck’ although I have never seen a French person tuck their shirt this way.
Context is important. There's a time and place for some t-shirts with graphics. I have a selection of band shirts. These are great for shows or some nightclubs. Surprisingly, I've gotten more numbers from women when sporting my L7: Smell the Magic t-shirt than any other article of clothing. I don't have or wear any but, I'd tend to agree if they are very light wash that is fitting with the season. It would look weird in dark or the "dad" colors.
Yeah breaking up a suit is just an off look imo. The socks with sandals is not a look that works, I can understand it in the home, hey I wear Ugg moccasins around my home but I see people wearing them out to the shops and such, that is not a classy look at all. Another shoe look that definitely in my opinion that does not work is white tennis shoes with a suit, particularly a dark suit. Great tips on style there Antonio.
I'm sure there are videos out there about that topic, including by this channel. Basically, espadrilles and loafers-ideally canvas, or otherwise suede-in lighter colors.
I was watching "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and one of the gay designers on the show suggested tucking the shirt in the front but not the back. One of the other gay designers said (jokingly, I think), "I can see this being a fashion statement." So it may have started with that show.
I wonder if anyone can tell me why 3 button suits are so hard to come by these days? I always prefers 3 buttons, but haven’t been able to get an off the rack with more then 2 buttons.
Hi Antonio, and RMRS community. Working as a field service engineer ( messing with hand tools and sometimes getting your hands dirty) and taking 70+ flights a year, 6 foot 240lb 30yo, i struggle a lot on combining a classic style with versatility and comfort, as well as quality. So i end up relying on the company polo shirt which i find tacky and pair of levi’s jeans, running shoes and that’s it, overall a baggy and non well-fitted look. Any advice or recommendation is welcome
I invite you to get your company shirt fitted, especially around the arms, and an athletic-fitted jean (4+ way stretch fabric). As for shoes in your field, perhaps a nice, rugged work boot or Chelsea boot would be the finishing touch. Hope that helps, Carlo!
Accessorize! Add a nice watch and maybe a men’s bracelet on your non-watch wrist. Add a nice belt (if you tuck in your polo), maybe one from Anson Belt and Buckle, which Antonio has mentioned a bunch. Nice shades/sunglasses. I second Ken’s suggestion of Chelsea boots. You could also get some ‘dress sneakers’. They’re dressy sneakers usually of a single color, made of leather, and omitting a large logo on the side. And, if you can pull it off, you could try rocking a flat cap on your noggin’. It’s dressier than a baseball cap and you can get away with wearing it indoors. Good luck!
Short term/immediate: dark jeans, belt, dark casual shoes, if you can get a polo a size down (so it’s not bunchy), cover that with a quarter-zip pull over sweater Longer term (sorry - you asked): try to get down to something less than 240lbs, and you’ll have dozens more options.
Big logos- I personally don't go for big logos unless it's a brand I support myself or if it's a team that I support. White socks I can see if there's a medical reason for it. My father is a diabetic and has really bad feet. His job before he retired required him to dress in a suit for several occasions.
I wear shorts that hit just below the knee because I have big legs and I'm over 6ft, so smaller shorts don't fit me. I tried to find shorts above the knee but they were tight on my thighs
Always enjoy your videos, and guidance Antonio! Please allow me to offer my "No Go" wardrobe items, for single guys, over 50, in the dating world. (I'll be 67 this year) Hopefully, this will be perceived with some humor, and a friendly dose of sincerity. Under NO circumstances do I leave my place wearing any of the following...Hoodies, tank tops, sweat pants, cargo shorts, 80's rock band t-shirts, flip flops, sandals, slides, wrap around sunglasses, G-Shock or Ironman watches, gold chains, or Safari / Outback hats. Oh, and NO political bumper stickers on your vehicle. (I don't want to alienate the woman of my dreams, with an endorsement for Harvey Schmedlap.) 😉 All the best gentlemen! ✌
Admittedly I'm only 29 and already spoken for, but women who have a problem with my band t-shirts are women I'm simply not interested in. Everything else checks out though, with the possible exception of the G-Shock. If you're the kind of guy who can truly pull off the style of a G-Shock over 50, you probably don't need many pick up tips.
I agree with having a well-tailored suit but do you agree with having 5 different-colored suits and mixing / matching for multiple looks for different occasions?
If you're talking about spezzato (mixing the jacket from one suit with the pants from another), that's perfectly fine … *BUT* it decreases the formality to the equivalent of a sports jacket and slacks. Use that as your guide to decide when to do it (or not do it).
In my twenties I lived in Italy, Torino, years 2003-2012). The girls told me there is a rule: men shall never show knees. Shorts must be always longer than a knee (except the swimming trunks) otherwise man looks like a kid on a school trip^^ So as you can see wearing a shorts as a man is a controversial topic. To be on a safe side i would recommend to avoid shorts (except swimming pool, beach, doing sports, etc.) at all.
What if your wearing white trousers? I got a black and white party to attend. I have a black polo, white, trousers, and black loafers. I was going to go with no shoe shoes.
The drape of modern suits are designed for the bottom button to be undone. Buttoning it makes the jacket look and feel off. It started in the Edwardian period of England 1901-1910.
I am aggre with your idea Antonio White and colourful socks diminish the formal style. We know wearing white socks with suit is Micharl Jackson’s style
I wouldn't wear it as a T-shirt, but the beaver-shirt made both me and my wife laugh 😀. Anyway, you wore that in COLLEGE. Mature tastes are aquired and developed along the way, not born fully formed. I'm sure the lady in question realized that as well...
Flying back to Florida I wear my shirt, "Straight outta Detroit." Leaving Vegas, "In my defense I was left unsupervised." My wife's favorite, "Nevermind the dog, beware of Wife!" Other wives love that shirt too.
You objected to "trying to wear black trousers with a blue jacket or blue trousers with a black jacket and passing that off as a suit." I'm sure nobody would do that and call it a "suit," because pretty much everyone knows a "suit" would be jacket and trousers of the same color. They're most likely trying to pass off the suit jacket as a sports coat. Your further points and explanation are well said. But I do have a classic blazer in black that I'll wear with blue or gray trousers. If I tried to wear it with black trousers, THAT would look like I was trying pass off a blazer as a suit. Another thing that's a personal quirk of mine: I was issued camouflage to wear when it was time to kill people. That will likely always be my mental association.
Long shorts came out of skater, hip-hop, and other subcultures in the 90s. As far as a suit, I think a blazer and nice pants are the minimum. The question is whether some people see blazer and slacks as controversial and under what conditions.
Adding to *Matt's* answer, suits are designed and made so they drape best when following those rules. That's been the case for decades. I took a look at some retro illustrations, and it appears that in the 1920s, the rule was to (usually) button all of the buttons. The transition seems to have happened from the 1930s through the 1950s. It also appears that the rule for single-breasted suits changed about a decade ahead of double-breasted suits.
I think the half-tuck shirt still looks acceptable in the right setting for a tall, fit gent in his 20's or early 30's. Other than that, it looks totally ridiculous.
hehe probably no reason to point it out, but although the t-shirt was indeed a stupid joke and indeed kind of inappropriate for university, but to remember it for 10 years, then bring it up on your wedding about a guest -- that's kind of the same, isn't it? or that was one dull wedding :P
@@acornsucks2111 I agree they should, but I think it is done as a bragging thing, or a belonging thing too. In the UK, most teens in cities like London have a similar uniform of logos - black or grey Nike sweatsuits; it is depressing to see young people not giving a toss about their dress!
@@alwayspooh1588 I'm not familiar with London youth culture, but practically every teenager cares immensely about what others think, and their clothing-regardless of how it looks to you-is definitely part of that equation.
Never understood why it's such a hard rule that the bottom button on suits never gets fastened... why is this the case? I always thought it looked better but everyone says it's a no no
I have only 2 t shirts that have designs or words on them because I don't like wearing logo wear and stuff like that. Anyway. One of them say's PROFESSIONAL RAWDOGGER and the other says Allegedly with and anarchy "A" with an AK making up one leg of the A. I get nothing but laughs and compliments when I where the first one. The other one people just look quizzically at it. I give no fucks.
I wish I knew all of this in 2011/12 (30/31yo) when I was young and jacked... I would have still had my baggy jeans, and hoodie for hanging with the boys, but that look did me no favors with the ladies.
For everyday wear, comfort comes first. For closed-toed footwear that's relatively breathable, try canvas or suede espadrilles or perhaps even mules (which cover your toes but expose your ankles).
9:30 As a Ukrainian, I'd say this kind of "large logo" fashion is already dying. For sure, it still survived, especially in provincial towns, but we make jokes of them as well. It's kinda stereotypical marginal guy outfit.
#7 Never fasten the bottom button. Dude, I’m leading a revolution where we use all the buttons again. That fashion rule began with some fat ass king who looked like a stuffed sausage in his suits so he began only clasping the top button. People looked to royalty as the trend setters but it’s time to set a new standard.
Someone please make he "Slides with socks" stop! How can sandals with socks be a faux pas, yet slides with socks are okay? Personally, I wouldn't own a pair of slides, regardless!
You can wear the t-shirt or tanktop to protect the polo shirt from the oils and liquids of the skin, hide the nipples and extends the life of the polo.
Brown or light brown shoes with a blue suit is another foolish fashion faux pas. It just makes you look like a hick who wants everyone to stare at his "fancy Friday go a courtin' shoes". Especially horrifying when worn with pants that are too short. I think the look was popularized by the character Louis Litt on the show Suits. Hint: Dress like Harvey not Louis.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou not only is there nothing wrong with brown shoes with a blue suit, they are the appropriate option. You don’t mix black and blue. It’s a clear sign you don’t know what you’re doing.

Low rise trousers is a style mistake in my opinion.
Avoid white socks? Tell that to the dozens and dozens of Japanese amanzingly dressed and stylish men.
Life is mehh , but atleast our style and mindset is decent enough to sail through it .
As someone from Eastern Europe, the whole logo thing is to brag you can afford a "good" brand. It's a trashy thing.
Not a fan of black or blue socks. Plain Burgundy or purple are my favourites. I don't have the courage to pull red socks just yet
Please don't.
Black and dark blue socks are my go-to-staples, along with grey.
Burgundy socks look great. They really tie brown dress shoes together with pants.
What if your wearing white trousers? I got a black and white party to attend. I have a black polo, white, trousers, and black loafers. I was going to go with no shoe shoes.
No shoe shoes? You mean barefoot?
Black socks
Same here home only
I rarely used a sports jacket so I'm a little ignorant on the subject. So why, if there is a button, should you never use it?
The drape of modern suits are designed for the bottom button to be undone. Buttoning it makes the jacket look and feel off. It started in the Edwardian period of England 1901-1910.
The logos for status thing happens in India too.
Slides with socks is a no no!
Can someone explain me why there is this rule with the buttons?
Suits have excess fabric which drapes in a more form-fitting fashion when only one button is used.
Slides.
A can't help but chuckle a bit when I see a guy wearing slides...
Why?
I think the half-tuck shirt still looks acceptable in the right setting for a tall, fit gent in his 20's or early 30's. Other than that, it looks totally ridiculous.
If it gets cold, I’m buttoning up my jacket.
hehe probably no reason to point it out, but although the t-shirt was indeed a stupid joke and indeed kind of inappropriate for university, but to remember it for 10 years, then bring it up on your wedding about a guest -- that's kind of the same, isn't it? or that was one dull wedding :P
Shorts above the knees are not for me, i looks loose basketball shorts
I absolutely will not wear a brand logo unless a corporation is paying me to do so. And what are the odds of that happening? ZERO...
Big logos are a real no no for me. For teenagers, then sure, but men, no!
Teens should say no also.
@@acornsucks2111 I agree they should, but I think it is done as a bragging thing, or a belonging thing too. In the UK, most teens in cities like London have a similar uniform of logos - black or grey Nike sweatsuits; it is depressing to see young people not giving a toss about their dress!
@@alwayspooh1588 They certainly give a toss. They just have different preferences from yours.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou I would disagree with you. Lots of youth in London are like sheep, and try for that 'roadman' life.
I always thought it looked better but everyone says it's a no no
Asymmetry is more natural and pleasing to the eye
No slides, never ever is rule #1. Whenever you think of inventing rule #2, just refer to rule #1.
Has anyone told Aaron about Point #2? Anyone? Anyone AT ALL?!?!? Bueller? :-)
No Logo
Are those socks you're wearing with those sandals......?
Always wear socks, unless you are wearing flip flops. Also, never wear flip flops.
What do you wear at the beach or pool?
LOL the video in the end doesn't show up...........
I give no fucks.
yes, here in Serbia also they use lots of logos. they are sooooooo fake
I wish I knew all of this in 2011/12 (30/31yo) when I was young and jacked... I would have still had my baggy jeans, and hoodie for hanging with the boys, but that look did me no favors with the ladies.
When can I wear open toed foot ware sandals or flip flops I am a teacher in India and it’s very uncomfortable for shoes or boots though I try to
Beach and the shower.
For everyday wear, comfort comes first. For closed-toed footwear that's relatively breathable, try canvas or suede espadrilles or perhaps even mules (which cover your toes but expose your ankles).

Baseball caps warn with tags/ stickers on the bill , especially with grown men, make guys look like clowns.
Wearing socks 8/10 times usually looks awful. No shows are the way to go.
Diaper butt 😆😆
The current fad at sporting events is to wear a jersey with #18 and the name above it is Are You? 🤦♂️🙄
Stay home.
i turned it off after he said slides.
Well to be honest idc about ppls needs to be víctims, although My intolerance for Bad taste in clothing is far superior
No video in the corner.
Fixed it!
Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes the trend enters clown world
9:30 As a Ukrainian, I'd say this kind of "large logo" fashion is already dying. For sure, it still survived, especially in provincial towns, but we make jokes of them as well. It's kinda stereotypical marginal guy outfit.
T Shirts with words and sayings on them look tacky and juvenile
I kicked the habit years ago Mike.
The look like I don't know what I'm doing revolution
Someone please make he "Slides with socks" stop! How can sandals with socks be a faux pas, yet slides with socks are okay? Personally, I wouldn't own a pair of slides, regardless!
Polo shit, do you wear a t-shirt with it or not?
almost never.
You can wear the t-shirt or tanktop to protect the polo shirt from the oils and liquids of the skin, hide the nipples and extends the life of the polo.
Wear a v neck undershirt so it’s not seen.
No
Muff divers are extinct or soon to be.
Women won't like that 😂
Brown shoes with a dark suit is offensive 🤮🤮🤮
Brown or light brown shoes with a blue suit is another foolish fashion faux pas. It just makes you look like a hick who wants everyone to stare at his "fancy Friday go a courtin' shoes". Especially horrifying when worn with pants that are too short. I think the look was popularized by the character Louis Litt on the show Suits. Hint: Dress like Harvey not Louis.
What? Brown shoes pair great with a blue suit. Both are neutral colors, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with pairing them together.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou Agreed!
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou not only is there nothing wrong with brown shoes with a blue suit, they are the appropriate option. You don’t mix black and blue. It’s a clear sign you don’t know what you’re doing.
@@mph7282 I think your comment is addressed to OP, not me...
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou I was addressing the original comment, agreeing with you. Brown shoes are the way to go with blue trousers.
Very rare does a large logo look good. But I’m sure there are exceptions. Not all logos were created equal
