Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, today we’re making friends with the PedalPalFX 800 Gold Overdrive. The 800 Gold represents all of the knowledge and research that PedalPalFX has gained while researching a solid-state recreation of the JCM800, one of the holiest of all tube amps. The circuit board of the 800 Gold features a host of carefully matched and biased JFETs, with a multiturntrimpot on each one. Each transistor is carefully biased by ear to provide the most tube-like preamp distortion money can buy. Just like the real thing, the Gain control of the 800 Gold is extremely responsive to pick attack and volume knob cleanup. Really digging into the 800 Gold will make the pedal howl with creamy distortion, and will heavily saturate your own tubes when you turn it up. The Gold 800 contains a juicy Marshall-style EQ section, with a full three bands to adapt the pedal to your other gear. A Presence control sits after the EQ section, and lets you attenuate the high frequencies for a further degree of tonal control. A side-mounted three-way toggle gives you three distinct gain voices, while an internal trimpot sets a Master Tone control that sets the base character of the pedal to taste. And just like all PedalPalFX, the PAL 800 Gold Overdrive is hand-made one at a time in Venezuela.
Just Amazing!!! we love it!!! Thanks Andy and Tom from Proguitarshop and Tone Report Magazine for this incredible demo... Keep rocking with passion... Cheers!!!
Our pleasure. One of the best, if not thee best, Marshall pedal on the planet
Originally the Gold version of the pedals were going to be for every 100 sold if I recall, I'm assuming that has changed, for the better I feel. Do you have plans for a Gold version of the 959? If so, you should consider having a 2 Gain knobs to simulate the Normal and Bright inputs of Plexi's in addition to the rest of the controls (Vol, Presence, TMB)
Hi Tanner, we hope that your appetite for Gain will be satisfied next year, we are working very hard to achieve that pedal :-) ... Cheers!
I have a JMP 2203 but I want one though
Hey +Alpha Dog Doc, thanks for your comment... We have a 15% off only for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals for this pedal... you can check them out at the link: reverb.com/shop/pedalpalfx Cheers!!!
Oh man! Andy playing Love Removal Machine was amazing! Andy is incredible
Andy looks super happy playing this one
AllKeys JamTracks yeah and i do
PGS comment section:
50% song titles
35% Andy's playing is really good (it is!)
12% Why isn't he using a pick
3% actual statements about the pedal
s'better than gearmandude's comment section:
10% about the gear he's demoing
90% "you sound like jack black!"
Andy id my favorite reviewer, he always gets what the pedal is about.
I bought this pedal a few months prior to this demo. It is outstanding! It delivers the goods in all 3 modes. I use it on the clean channel of a Mesa Mark IVa. It's now the perfect Mesa and Marshall tone with this pedal. Unbelievable!
very amp like huh? wanna try one
Killer, sounds, that voicing switch really made distinct differences. I thought this would be over $200 with the pricing on many boutique pedals right now. But it's at $185.
Fantastic Sounding Marshall in a Box type of pedal. Lots of Tonal options.
Oh yea sweet pedal Andy havin fun
Andy's playing is amazing!
Lo mejor es que esta hecho en 🇻🇪
I feel so proud of hear that.
I own this pedal and it's incredible.
Andy’s right hand while he’s playing lead is mesmerizing.
I’ve always wanted to play guitar, but the beginning seems so slow and frustrating...
Christopher Edmiston fuckn hilarious 😂
Dude, I almost envy you. You have so many more tools to start learning than I did as a kid back in the 90’s at your disposal on the internet. Enjoy the process man... “Lifes’ a journey, not a destination”!
Jorgie WTF woosh
Ahahahhaahhaahhahahahaahah
Stop making excuses. If you want bad enough get started and commit yourself to one hour each day. In 1 year you'll be surprised and happy.
Nicest jcm 800 pedal I've heard. Sweet
Holiest :) I love it
great opening
Ol johan really made this thing crank
Wonderful intro..
Andy, this is why you're known as "Slick Nuts". Nice guitars, sweet dirt pedal, and awesome playing.
Thanks Michael! How did you know my name in college?
Andy, I had no idea that was your name in college. I saw that someone referred to you as "Slick-Nuts" in the comments section in a 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue UA-cam demo you did in 2008. I immediately thought "What a f$&@ing cool handle". Suits you man.
Damn Andy, you got paid on that intro
Whoa! that lick @1:12 is amazing! I want to learn to pick like that! Your videos are always amazing and informative. But your playing on this video blew me away. Good job!
Thanks so much, glad you're still enjoying these older demos.
Andy
@@ProGuitarShopDemos I have a feeling you could get ANYTHING to sound awesome. Your playing is TOO good! lol.
Hey Andy, can you do a comparison video of this amazing pedal in comparison to the Angry Charlie?
ROCKIN' JACK!
Does this pedal combine the PAL 959 Plexi and JCM 800 Emulator pedal into one?
It was mentioned that it will work well with the sound of your tube but will it react well using it on a solid state amp like my Marshall Mosfet
No it won't work. It will just catch on fire or self destruct! Ya, Im sure it would be just fine!
Please do a demonstration of the new Wampler Paisley Deluxe! There's really nobody better at doing pedal demos than you Andy, and it would be awsome to hear you use the Paisley Deluxe!
The OCD is much satisfying
I am completely undecided as to which one of these to get. I don't play with much gain, so I won't use much of the gain on the PAL 800 or the Gold Overdrive, but at the same time, I much prefer the gain structure on either of those to the PAL 959. So I really have no idea what to buy. I just want a nice, amp-like base distortion that I can stack a few overdrives on top.
I might just go for the JHS Charlie Brown, or the Catalinbread RAH.
What is the difference between gold one and the silver one...
Hi Jet Black+, Thanks for your quiestion... The PAL 800 GOLD Overdrive have the same concept design as the PAL 800 JCM Emulator, you can consider that the PAL 800 GOLD Overdrive is like a Marshall amp that has been modded in a good way and also with more tone versatility with the Gain Voicing Switch. In this meaning, you can get in the PAL 800 JCM and PAL 959 Plexi territories with the GOLD Overdrive. In general you will have more gain, more mids and attack response and of course versatility... Cheers!
Would love to hear Andy try some Joey Santiago sounds on these JCM 800 clones. But there are so many now, and they aren't *that* quiet...why not just get a JCM 800?
Personally, I don't ever need JCM 800 tones for an entire gig, but it would be nice to get as close as possible when needed (like during a Pixies cover). A pedal would be far more practical for my needs.
Because they are $3k new these days. You can get them for decent prices used occasionally but they typically run slightly south of $2k for a 2203 used which is the model everyone wants
Best used in front of an amp I suppose? Tempted to use this like a preamp pedal but I’m not sure its designed that way
Hi Rene+ Thanks for your question, you can use it both ways...but Yes! we design it mainly to use it in front of an amp... Cheers!
I wonder how the amp is set up. I have a les paul, fender tone master deluxe reverb and this pedal and have trouble getting these sort of sounds out of the pedal... maybe I need to adjust the master tone knob inside the pedal?
figured it out, first gen tone master (jenson speaker) doesn't play so nice with heavy distortion pedals!
THE CULT!!! YES!
1:12 holly tremolo picking Batman!
Can't go wrong with a bit of The Cult 😂
where can I buy it?
Third song?
Could you get like a quiet riot, Ratt or Dio tone out of this thing?
Sure, you might want a little extra gain like a Dist + or something but it's all the same era.
The Cult !
First song?
Don't like the switch on the side. But nice tone. 🎵🎸
Fourth song?
Sounds like my DSL100H
Wish it's in a smaller enclosure
It's not that big though..
nooooo we don't know man the gold drive boutique one still...highly shrouded in mystery lol...I don't even know..more junk just capped better who knows lol.
Andy, let's hear something like "I Hate Rock N Roll" from Jesus & Mary Chain through your DR and one of these PAL 800 pedals. At least the intro chords. That is unmistakeable JCM sound. Velouria, Wave of Mutilation, etc from the Pixies. The Breeders, early 90's Sloan when they used a Marshall. "When You Sleep" by My Bloody Valentine. Many to choose from along these lines. I really want to hear it with little to no breakup as well as light crunch. See how much of those glorious JCM upper mids come across through a Fender/6v6 amp, and without so much gain. Like the JCM amps did
what better for slash tone the silver?, maybe the gold ?
They even have new Night overdrive to replicate the Slash tone!!
The Cult!!!
Now the new sc800 is out....compare...
That's 3 JCM 800's from the same guy, what's the difference?
Love it how can I get my hands on one? Reverb has none. And no info exist outside of the usual suspects
probably shit like robbed outta early rack and really jerried on the floor or something idk...
Made in Venezuela? Get a rope
Like a tube amp? Just use a real tube amp to sound like a tube amp.
I see your point but pedals have long been a great alternative to playing through loud and demanding tube amps. Even more than ever with people playing into their computers, “tube-like” analog pedals are a helpful tool 👍🏻
Second song?
The Cult!
