Hi Johan, really thank you for this amazing review of our PAL 800 JCM Emulator... we are truly honored to know you like the pedal... Count on us as friends for anything you need, Cheers!!!
+PedalPalFx Thanks, you did a great job on this pedal guys!
This shows a lot of character for your company. I am definitely going to check out your (VERY) well priced pedal.
+MEDium Studios, thanks for your comment we are very glad that you like the pedal...
PedalPalFx can i get slash tone with this pedal?
motto sierra You can be damn sure you can. Damn it sounds amazing...
Surely it should be called the JC"Em"ulator
+borz666 Cool name :-)
well I thought JCMulator would be good lol
cool names... ;-)
@@areyouavinalaff Even Better.
Jazz Chorus Emulator ? Lol
Was liking it...then the amazing and harmonically rich tone at 3:46 stole my heart. That sounds amazing. Thanks Johan!
+Rick McCargar Thanks Rick, yeah it was a joy that play this pedal. :-)
Nice pedal and awesome playing, Johan! Great demo as always. I may even purchase this pedal for my rig. Thanks for showing the true way to classic rock tonal bliss.
Wow! That sounds incredible, nailed on 800 tone!
+Moltisanti Thanks! :-)
I bought one of these right after viewing this video. I run it through a Fender Deluxe Reverb and it sounds so good!! Thanks Johan & PedalPalFx!
+George Zip Thanks George! Glad you like it too! Cheers Johan
Thank you for posting this!! I heard on one setting a glassy Marshall chime which is coveted. Now I gotta go find one of these and buy it. Great tone.... especially running through the clean channel!
+Richard M Thanks Richard!
Your videos are very helpful. I have watched lots of them. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this video. I've been searching for a Marshall pedal that had that attack (or whatever that magic is) that you discuss around 0:40. Picked up the gold version and played it for the first time tonight. Immediately the other guitarist in my band was impressed. It has that thing that Marshalls do (or at least better than any other Marshall pedal). You helped me make the right decision!
sounds fantastic. Great playing and great tones!
You're awesome, you gave me just what I wanted, and that's to hear the pedal for 8 minutes, not to hear someone talk for half the video.
+Johnny Beesley Thanks man, that's how I like it too :-)
Sounds really nice! Something new and cool every time that's why i subbed a while back.
+1thess523 Glad to hear that! :-)
Great sounding pedal. I'll have to put it on the wish list.
+AddR0ck Thanks :-)
this pedal nails it that 70 s sound them ts9 pedal boys gonna worry now this is a bad boy thank you for sure will look around and your playing dam kept me on the edge of my chair well done Johan
+William Pereira Thanks man! :-)
What a cracking pedal! Very good review too... thanks!
+NPGANDERSSON Thanks!
Great review Johan, sounds amazing! Cheers
+XMatthewXmassacreX Glad to hear it! Cheers
nice that that pedal doesnt try to go overboard like alot of pedals do. the right tone makes me more inspired to play
Great Review and awesome playin' Johan. Dude I can' t remember when exactly I found this Channel! But I am watching it almost every day, cause you are posting new stuff pretty often...and I can say with conf. it was never a waste of time. Def. one of the better channels in this weird www. ;-) Cheers -MAT-
+Martin Zetter Cheers my friend!
Wow, that pedal is totally legit. Great demo Johan.
love ya, johan. keep the vids coming. great job.
+hevechvy Thanks my friend!
Epic pedal! Great playing! Cheers
its the first pedal ive seen with all the proper controls. why hasn't this been done before.
Man, every note you hit is story for itself.
+Srdjan Bošnjak That's a very nice compliment my friend! Cheers Johan
Just placed my order for one. I can't wait for delivery to play through it! It sounds great.
+roblassila63 Great to hear it, think you'll love it!
awesome pedal bro !! oh i see your other videos and i really like your playing style it's really original and ispiring :)
Your playing is awesome!
+Skylar Coy Thanks Skylar! :-)
Thanks Johan, pedal sounds pretty good!
Wow, it sounds fantastic! However it sound double that fantastic, because you are playing it! I have been watching Phil McKnight's video about this pedal and though I love that guy, it sounded like a toy in comparison to your video! You are amazing and I absolutely love your channel! Keep on rockin'!
Sounds great. Nice playing.
+soldanovht noneofya Thanks, glad to hear it!
Now we know where your true Heart is, Heavy Metal lol
Great Job bro. I've always liked these amp as you can roll back volume and get great cleans
+buffdoc46 Thanks my friend :-)
I love your playing dude.
Thanks, I’m really glad to hear that!
I think this may sell a fair few pedals. Excellent job.
This is great news! Thanks again, Johan!
+Peli Mies Thanks Peli!
Sounds awesome!
+William Sitnin Thanks William!
Best gear head channel on UA-cam!
Thanks! I’m really glad to hear that!
Another Excellent Video .. Excellent Pedal it seems to have a very fast edgy attack , looks like actual Discrete Transistors probably Jfet's. Most mass production pedals use Op-amps.. The pots with are to Bias the Transistors , nice well built construction. I designed a single JFT transparent overdrive with real 10 dB boost and runs on 15vdc. One tip Transistors need power , I would use a clean transformer like a Voodo Lab or my fave Cioks..
Oh, man, this one sounds nice
+Anže Tomazin Thanks Anže! :-)
Great sounding pedal. Truly amp sounding. Company has free shipping also. Great video Johan.
Not often you use reverb. Is this amp reverb?
+hachewie I record onto an iPad with Cubasis where I use a very slight amount of the onboard reverb. Cheers
I own Marshalls but if I only had a Hot Rod Deluxe, Peavey Classic, or any other good clean amp, I'd be all over this pedal. It just has that real Marshall high end crack that the Plexi Drive, Purple Plexi, Dirty Little Secret, etc. lack. Plus it's hand built with all the controls of the real thing(plus internal tone adj). The Pal800 & 959 are TRUE "Marshall in box" pedals. The others come close but no cigar.
hi johan wow it does a really great job of mimicking a JCM800
+huskvarsm Thanks :-)
freaking extrimely good sounding
Thanks, glad to hear that!
Well that is one transparent pedal. It sound more like ... well an amp. Outstanding!
those fucking riffs are so sick, getting better and better Johan!
+Nomad13 Thanks my friend!
Thanks for the video Johan - fantastic as usual. PedalPalFX have now released the 959 Plexi Emulator. I would love to hear a comparison video! The PedalPal video isn't great quality....
cheers
+T Towers Thanks! I have to check that one out!
Sounds incredible! I'm a Johan Fan!
+Stephen Wade Thanks Stephen! You make my day :-)
pretty damn impressive!
Cheers Johan! I watched this video on the day you released it and was impressed. So I ordered one ($149 from Reverb.com). And I agree, it does the job very well. A very very handy (and somewhat cheap) pedal to have in the arsenal. Thanks buddy!
+Noeffnwaypal Cheers! Hope you like it as much as I do!
That was a nice demo, a nice pedal, and awesome playing! But I would like to hear it with a EHX 44magnum - it's a pedal power amplifier, and it's really neutral sounding, yet punchy.
I think it's better to test it with something more neutral than a big orange stack, just my opinion though :-)
Pretty impressive tones.
+leftyfusion88 thanks!
you are correct....pedals usually can't reproduce that leading edge percussive sound....but this one does it better than most....the Friedman be pedal does it well too.
+livingabovethe12th yeah and that percussive aspect of the tone is what I love about Marshall
This is a damn good sounding pedal! I would use this for silent recording, when my gf is asleep, run my "fat strat" into this pedal and then into my audio interface and use a clean Twin or AC30 model. The one thing I'd miss is feedback, but it's silent recording, so there's no way around that. For rough draft recordings of new songs (or even unfinished songs), or as a writing tool through headphones or even a small solid state combo amp, this would be quite an "inspiring" sound.
Hey, have you heard of Frenzel Amplification? It's just one guy in Texas, makes lots of nice amps for very reasonable prices, but what got me interested was that he makes a lot of VERY cheap standalone preamps. I have one that is basically the preamp section of a Twin on one channel and the preamp section of an early Marshall on the other, and you can A/B/Y the channels. He also makes a preamp called the "Frenzel Rocker 800," which - as you might have guessed - is the preamp section of a JCM800 in a standalone preamp. I'm thinking of grabbing one, they're only 400 bucks shipped, but that's in the US, not sure what you'd have to pay. I think it would be cool to try an 800 type preamp in front of a 6V6 power amp and then throuigh an EL84 power amp and maybe try it through my converted Hammond organ reverb amps and tone-cabinet amps. I wish more companies would do all-tube standalone preamp versions of their most popular amps. I'd be first in line, but I bet a lot of modern metal players would also grab up a 5150 preamp and 80's rockers would love to have JCM800 or JCM2000 preamps. You should check out Frenzel though. I think it's Frenzeltubeamps.com but if you search "Frenzel Amplification," you'll find it anyway. Cheers!
check out the Digitech Freqout if you want a way to mess with feedback at reasonable volumes. not sure how it might work in the signal chain as far silent recording, but given that it's supposed to respond to the signal in line with other pedals, I can't see why it wouldn't work! :)
SOUNDS GREAT, I'M SUPRISED YOU DIDN'T COMPARE IT SIDE BY SIDE WITH A REAL JMP AND JCM800 BUT YOUR RIGHT ABOUT THE ATTACK THING, IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE REAL AMPS, I'M REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE PEDAL, I WONDER HOW IT WOULD HANDLE SOMETHING LIKE A TUBESCREAMER, AWESOME VIDEO
+MB215 Thanks, its got a lot more gain than I used here actually.
British Steel in a box. :)
+grizdeluxe Indeed! :-)
Hi Johan
I love watching your videos you always have amazing tones. I’ve played through Mesa Boogies for years. Within the last couple of years I came to the conclusion. That I’ve been searching for a cranked Marshall tone. I recently bought my first Marshall amp it’s the Origin 50c. While I love the amp I find myself needing a little bit more gain and wanting to get closer to Jcm 800 territory. I would love to get your thoughts on Setting up The Pal 800 with Marshall Origin & Telecaster. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give.
Thanks
Sam
What do you think will happen if I put a booster in front of the pedal? Can you try that?
Cheers,
great pedal. have to get one. like this week
+Megzamani Thanks :-)
I have this pedal and agree with Johan - beautiful sounds!
+M Medcalf thanks!
There are many pedals that do the 800 sound very well. JHS makes a couple and so do other brands.
does indeed sound like a cranked up tube marshall. I have an old 70's Era marshall half stack with a LP and sounds very similar! At those levels, wise that you wear hearing protection too!
+David Caro Thanks David!
Great channel, i am learning a lot!!
Question; Have you ever used a LPD Sixty 8 Drive pedal??
You should check out the Runoffgroove Thunderbird. It was designed to sound as close as possible to a Marshall Super Lead as they could make it. Very cool design ideas in it too!
Damn!! sounds great😊
+Magic Forest Thanks :-)
HI Johan...great video as usual....but I've been looking on the USA music sites and no one has it for sale...is it launched yet? where are they available? Thx
This is a great vid as always. Would it be legal to use this with a JCM800?
Sounds great. Great video. Have you tried the analog tech 21 fly rig? Plexi simulator with reverb, preamp, delay and stereo chorus. it's cool..
I just came across a video for a pedal called the Gurus 1959 Double Decker which is another Marshall style pedal and it sounded pretty good, not sure if you've heard of it but you might like it, I'm always on the look out for Marshall style pedals and amps, also I came across an amp called the Epiphone So Cal, its sounded pretty damn good and there is one for sale for $200 that I'm thinking about getting but you might like it too, I'll be waiting for tomorrows video
Thinking one of these through my Rockerverb 100 mKIII clean channel to get marshall AND orange tones with a simple channel switch! Seems that it does get really REALLY close!
it would be awesome if you showcased a blues jr, maybe showcasing what drive pedals, lo hi gain , work well with it, since a lot of home player probably play small amps at home , or for that matter a show focusing on ANY smal clean combo amp, thx its just an idea
Hi Johan, great contents as usual...would u share what you think of AMT M2 (another jcm 800 emulator/a pre amp)🖖
I might run this on my modded 800 to get me back to original spec tones!!! The mid range is great!!!!!
+10,000 Rambos Thanks man :-)
Hi Johan! Do you think this pedal will sound right with a fender blues junior, Thank you for the amazing videos.
i see a NEW pedal in the future thanks man.
+Tommy A. That's good to hear! Cheers!
Hey there!
I am looking for “that” pedal to do the Marshall thing. Tried several so far, (angry charlie, ocd and DLS) and while all were really cool and sounded good, they weren’t quite right. Looks like I may try this now. Have you tried a Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem yet?
Johan, I see that you're using T1217 Blackbacks in this video. Any chance that you could shoot these out against some other speakers? These seem to be some exceptionally rare speakers, and I haven't found a good comparison video on them. I have two of them and would love to find two more that sound similar. Great video, by the way! Love the content, keep up the good work!
I have a wonderful idea and favor to ask you. Is there any way you can do a video of the PAL 800 in to a dual rectifier vs a jcm800?
Johan,
So if you had a choice between this pedal or any Marshall SS 5000 series from the 1980's, which would you choose to produce a more authentic jcm800 voice?
you really got precise right hand movement, I always watch at your right hand - it moves really nice. Do you worked on this or it came naturally to you? Also you've got amazing sense of time, since you play without backing tracks you playing rocks, also you worked on this?
+fleaguitar89 Thanks, that's so good to hear! I started out as a drummer actually so I have a rhythmic approach to the guitar.
hi,great tones! how does it compare to the radilal tonebone plexitube or hot british version soundwise?
+Marky M Thanks! I haven't played those yet I'm afraid.
Would this help my lead 20 ss sound more tube-like?
Man...I was just about to pull the trigger on a Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem! Now I'm not so certain, going to put it in front of a really nice Old Twin Reverb. Any thoughts?
What's, in your opinion, the best superlead (Marshall 1959SLP 100) in a pedal? I'm looking for Page's '73 Madison Square Garden tone at ~75-80db apartment levels. BINGE-WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL RIGHT NOW :D
PS: I see they also make a PAL 959! But there are only 2 low quality demos online. Have you tried that one?
How close is it to JCM though? Would you be able to tell the difference in a blind test?
I wonder if they used jfets and then tuned the negative feed match each gain stage in the marshall amp. op amp and diode combo you can not do that to my knowledge.
Wow, this pedal is one of a kind, a great example how good transistor circuits can sound today, it all depends on the quality of the circuit. The PCB with the parts looks simple and "handwired", but it produces a very fat and lifely sound.
+59Vintage Yeah it blew me away
Lovely!
+Blues Bengan Thanks man :-)
Wow, it really has the marshall tone. Did you run this in the effect loop or in front of the amp?
+rybones1311 I ran it in front of the amp. Cheers
That is one Immense sounding pedal! I wonder what it would sound like direct with a cab emulator? I bet if Johan is playing it will sound amazing either way! How about trying it through a cab emulator? JC"eM"ulator thru a cab-ulator? Always look forward to your videos! Another great one....
+jcoulter43 Thanks my friend! We can try that!
Not bad at all! The frequency response sound a little limited, as does the attack but it might pass for a JTM that has been through a mix but not the bite or growl if a cranked JCM. Very interesting!
+Charles Shaw Thanks Charles!
The way he keeps time reminds me of Steve Martin in THE JERK!
Great demo Johan. Have you ever tried the MXR Super Badass Distortion? Some people claim, that it sounds like a Marshall Jubilee. It sounds good to me, but I've never played through a real Jubilee.
+Magnus Hardt Thanks Magnus, haven't played that one yet I'm afraid.
Johan, I have some possibly silly questions/thoughts:
1. Why test a pedal like this with an Orange amp? If you're running this through an OR80 -- you're already more than halfway there with a ballsy, Brit, EL34 amp anyway, how am I to know how much of what I'm hearing is this pedal, vs. the OR80? Yeah, it adds a bit more Marshall bite to the Orange's inherent midrange, and that's good, if that's what you're after, but an EQ pedal will do that on an EL34 Orange. So I guess I'm missing several points here.
2. I'd be more curious to know how this pedal does transforming some rather different sounding amp into a Marshall sound. Something clean like a JC120, or perhaps a cleaner Fender with a lot of headroom. i.e. something NOT already known for British EL34 sound.
3. Who is this pedal designed for? People who can't afford a real Marshall head and cab? (If you can afford the Orange, you can probably afford the Marshall -- at least if you sell the Orange). Perhaps this pedal should be paired with some kind of beginner amp -- possibly a Line6 or similar DMA, and compared with a real JMP/JCM. Seems like more of a real-world application.
I'd say go 1 step farther and plug it into a small mixer and power amp and then a 1X12 Celestion cab.
answer to thought 3: those who want marshall sounds, but mostly play in their living rooms with moderate volume =)
You could get some KT88 amp like Simms-Watts PA or something like that. These amps have an insane amount of headroom
Hello, good Video. How does it compare to the Lpd 87 pedal? Ive heard that the lpd lawrence petros 87is the top notch marshall jcm800 pedal right now.
Johan what is that riff at 8:50 that is a awesome riff ? and by the way I can see this pedal could possibly become as highly collectible as a Klon Centaur in the not to distant future
Great review Johan! I was wondering if you have a music band? it would be nice to hear your music, you're a good guitarist!
+Kevin Solano Thanks Kevin, I'm really glad to hear that! I'm gonna post some complete songs here on the channel later on. Cheers!
Johan rocking as always - great tone! Sharing my own experience - If you can find one, an original Marhsall Guvnor is how I used to get a practice amp to sound legit marshall in the 90s. Today, through a 68 pro reverb I truly understand why Marshall made it ... it's a shining star in all pedal history. Can also be boosted with an overdrive like a marshall, check it out if you haven't done so yet! -- Some Guy In Hollywood
+lookingjust987654321 Thanks, I haven't played it that much actually, but I'll try it if I get the chance. Cheers
You can borrow mine Guv'nor some day Johan :)
You can borrow my Guv'nor some day Johan :)
I wonder how this would sound paired with my jc120
From what I'm reading, this is basically a circuit-clone of a JCM-800 pre-amp except with transistors. Would that be inaccurate?
That pedal sounds great. Have you heard of the JHS Sweet Tea? It does a great job as well, it's my favorite pedal to use when using a practice amp and am unable to crank my Marshall tube amp.
+Dustin Lyon Thanks, I have only played the Angry Charly from JHS so far
Cool. The Sweet Tea is the Angry Charlie and and TSO8 Overdrive combined. It has a switch so you can choose which one comes first, giving the player a lot of options.
Anyway, I love your channel, keep up the good work.
+Dustin Lyon Thanks, I'm really glad to hear that!
What about the Bartolini tube it pedal made late 70’s early 80’s I thought that was meant to be jcm800 in a box ? Maybe I'm wrong
Hi Johan! Do you think this pedal will sound right with a Marshall Mg100hdfx combo? (4X12 cabinet) Thank you for the amazing videos, you are such an inspiration dude! Greetings from Bolivia
+Adrián Miramendy Hi Adrián! I think it would probably work if the MG has enough headroom. Cheers Johan
+Adrián Miramendy Glad you like the videos! Greetings from Gothenburg Sweden!
