You said simulated weapons, as in every round is physically tracked by the game engine? That is going to tear my poor little 3050 ti to shreds. Impressive technical accomplishment though.
Yes, every projectile has some physics and units actually calculate how to fire it to hit a moving target, but don't worry (and if you want to worry, most likely your CPU is in bigger danger than GPU) - in supcom FAF for example weak computers are dealing fine with all that somewhere until 2 thousand units, which is very good considering that the game engine sucked and only utilized single core for almost all physics. Devs of Sanctuary aim to comfortably have around 10k units on the map total.
Decs don't like to rush the official "state" of the game, if I can say so - safer for them and leaves more room for uncertainties. But the fact is its definitely much further than it was before. I would even say the stage of the game might be quite further than what is available to the public as of right now, since we didn't have any dew blog updates or anything big in like 2 or 3 weeks already. They are VERY likely to be hiding surprises for upcoming kickstarter later this year.
Pathfinding for hundreds of units in a large scale map must be CPU-intensive as well. I'm not sure GPU is the main factor there. When the first SupCom was released, most people who complained about lag issues had CPU limitations.
I do find myself zoomed out playing the macro level often but I do like zooming in with the high tier units and watching them unleash on the enemy - Tom
Looks good, but why is there a star underneath when the surface is destroyed? The action takes place on the outer surface of the Dyson sphere and there is lighting, shadows, etc.
Sphere has lots of holes spread all around it that let a bit of light out, which is then reflected back on the surface by mirror satellites in orbit. Sphere is too small(0.024AU in radius) for anything to live on the inside, so people have to live on the outside
I hope it will be good. I stopped playing SupCom, because at late game the sim speed drops to -3 or -4 with 3-4000 units, so there were a savegame, where against A.l. the gametime was 1 hour 10 minutes, but it was almost double the total playtime for that match. How much it will be moddable? There were some really good mods for SupCom and FA, i personally would like to see a 1980-1990 era modern mod with realisticly scaled units, including infantry squads, APC-s, tanks, helis, jets, ships with realistic sizes. With max 10k units, it checks a lot of boxes.
Devs prioritize quite high making game easy to mod. I am not a dev and have no idea how their game works, but I doubt your idea with infantry squads is gonna really work unless it is a bunch of separate small units like raid bots are in supcom.
Idk how im going to find time to play. Lol i still play 1997s total annihilation with the escalation mod 😂 what are your pc specs if i may? I have an i9-13000k 13th gen, 96 gigs ddr5, and nvidia 3070. How do you think my system will handle it?
One issue I have with their world building. How can a section of the dyson sphere fall down into the sun, when the sunlight is coming from the other side?
Is there any other games like supreme Commander / Planetary Annihilation like this? This is putting me in the mood to playing some awesome RTS, but I don't know if there is any other grand scale ones like this one while I'm stuck waiting...
@@LTGamingUA-cam Any others to the list? Also, do you suggest one of those two over the other? I've been giving them a try, but I've always... honestly sucked at these games, despite how much fun that they are to play XD. Always on the hunt for more of 'em.
One thing that bugs me about the setup here: A Dyson sphere is constructed around the sun and you live on the INNER surface (sun above you), not the outside. It's not like you just made a big planet with a star inside. If you lived on the outside, there would be no light because you covered up the sun. If you blow a hole in the surface it should open to empty space, not the star.
That completely depends on how it was designed. It might have been built very closely to the sun, with the purpose that you live in the terraformed surface.
Sanctuary is only 0.024 AU(at which distance sun conveniently gives 1g gravity)in radius and is in our solar system - anything on the inside will immediately get cooked. To have light on the outside, Sanctuary has many holes spread all around it to let a small amount of light out, that is then reflected back on surface with mirror satellites.
@Ricky-oc4xc Exactly. Such a design also makes much more sense than "standart" Dyson spheres that are made to live on the inside, considering that priority number 1 of Dyson Sphere is to gather as much energy as possible - living on the inside is waste of space that could have been used for solar panels. Oh, and making them big enough to be on a safe distance from the sun to live in would make the cost of Dyson sphere even more absurd than it is already.
the biggest issue with this game so far is , there are 90% tanks and hovers, instead of robots , and also the animations look really bad , and not entertaining.Supreme Commander will always be number one , and BAR.Lets see the future.Maybe Sanctuary will surprise me.
"Robots"(if you mean any walker, including 4+ legged units) are not finished in big numbers yet because they require a lot of animations. Oh, and at least half of those clips are like half year old -For EDA it is not even their style at all honestly. Only 2 walker units I know off from them are T3 and T4 sniper bots. -Guard have 4 legged units at this point - T1 raid bot, T3 heavy bot, T4 lazer bot and T4 mobile artillery bot. There are also T2/T3 raid bot and T2/t3 mobile artillery bots, but on Trello they are still listed as concept and we haven't had updates in a long time on them. Also 5-legged commander -Chosen have 5 legged units so far + bipedal commander - T1 raid bot, T3 assault bot, T4 assault bot(may not count since it hovers, but kinda has legs and looks like a robot otherwise), just T4 walker with 6 legs and a T5 Titan. And just for comparison - Cybran in Supcom FAF has 9 units with legs total(Guard have 8 on trello already, and that is at least third of its units still missing.) UEF has only 4 legged units Aeon only has 5(same as Chosen). Seraphim has 5 So the amount of robot units should be fine in the game. "look really bad , and not entertaining" Well, what we have right now is simply the very core of the game made functional by devs - they didn't have time yet to add all the cool flavor stuff. You have to build the dull, grey walls, roofs and foundation first before you can start decorating and filling in the house. If you want to know about more cool stuff that is planned, I recommend joining their discord server and asking there.
I agree with you 100% man.. Something just looks off with Sanctuary...Supcom just looked epic in every way and each race looked very unique while this game looks kinda drab and depressing ...units look meh & coms look blah....FAF FOREVER SUPCOM will reign supreme for all of ETERNITY
@peterc504 Might be just a taste and/or nostalgia + fact that game doesn't have most stuff added/polished yet. I personally like new commanders much more since all 4 factions having basically same bipedal commander felt very boring. Making new commanders so different also allows for more unique features like EDA commander being hover with bunch of advantages and disadvantages that come with it.
The problem I have with large-scale RTS games is that it just seems unrealistic when multiple large armies battle each other. No one would do something like that in real life, and such large-scale battlefields, in my opinion, should at least have some semblance of reality, but in my opinion, they don't. Group A throws its units at group B and constantly builds more cannon fodder. Unfortunately, that's about all I can think of, even though it looks very interesting.
And in real life we don't have technology to make a tank on site in 20 seconds, and no human player is gonna be able to spread those forces all across the frontline evenly without AI( which in my opinion is game playing itself instead of player) so what is the point exactly? If we had the technology and capability to produce so many machines at site, such "cannon fodder" battles would be exactly what we would use. Remember - those units are achines that cost somewhat nothing, and after battle you could recycle the wrecks to get your resources back. Why wouldn't you crush your try to crush your enemy with numbers if you have many more than he does in combination with strategy? The game is set on a Dyson sphere that has tons of empty space in between structures that actually matter in the war - it makes absolute sense to focus all the forces around that single small point of interest.
How are shattering and weather control and exciting here? Also devs are still quite far from release and didn't have time to add all the coolest parts of the game yet.
