It kinda bothers me when people say Cloud is "pretending" to be Zack, as that implies he's doing it willingly. But not only that, Cloud doesn't copy or even emulate Zack's personality during the first half of FFVII. His personality is basically a composite of how he viewed himself if he had joined Soldier, with his memories of events mixed up due to the mako poisoning and manipulation by Sephiroth/Jenova. Another thing people usually forget about Cloud is that even though he's 21 in FFVII, he was basically in a tube for 5 years so he's really mentally 16. His whole personality is a 16 year old's idea if what a cool Ex-SOLDIER is.
Not exactly, it’s not like his brain isn’t developed for his age because he IS 21 yo. But his life experiences are that of a 17yo instead of a 21 yo. So his social skills as an adult are not as developed as they would normally be if he didn’t lose those years and suffered as much trauma and psychological stress as he did.
He's pretending to be Zack in that he's pretending to be SOLDIER first class and Zack was SOLDIER first class. People aren't trying to make some deep comment on Cloud's personality, people are just saying he's pretending to be something he's not
What always got to me: Angeal: I don't use the Buster Sword unless I can help it. Use brings about rust, wear and tear. Zack: Yeah I use the sword, but only smack them with the blunt backside to knock them out. Using the sharp end will chip the edge and blood will slowly allow rust to set in. Cloud: Zack, I left the Buster Sword on the edge of a cliff overlooking Midgar as a memorial to you. *Zack and Angeal in a rage due to the Buster Sword just being abandoned on a desert cliff, completely rusted and broken.*
If it's any consolation, he does move it to the church at the end of the movie...a church that floods thanks to Aerith using her limit break in the afterlife and has holes in the roof...but now it sort of has some protection 😅. Still too little, too late by that point, though.
Even though their scenes are brief, I really love how soft Zack is with Cloud. Zack clearly sees that Cloud is just a very overwhelmed teenager and Zack’s support is one of the few moments of softness Cloud really gets in the series
Took me 2 hours tops by killing in 9-6-5 with attacks from stance and 255 str aerial drains from stance. Probably would have been even faster with assault twister+. It's really not hard to do at all.
I honestly love these more in depth Completionist episodes so much more than what we've had for a while. Not that what we've gotten has been bad at all, but I was one of the people that really missed the Spoiler Alert segments from the earlier episodes in the series. Keep up the great work, Jirard!

Just hearing about what it takes to complete the game is, ironically enough, not a complete experience for me when it comes to his videos. The current format gives me exactly what I want.
By far this game is all I need to know that square didn’t properly plan for the reboot of the compilation series - ruined the ff7 remake game by attempting to be clever with the bait & switch - and are now just spinning around in circles. I don’t want to hear anyone telling me the franchise reboot or remake couldn’t have been the same story when we see other games do that every year to great success or a mild success. Now we have a busted story with awkward characters that read and act like a fanfiction-net story, time line continuity errors and several more games of a storythat is a total butt pull making it up as they go along. Whats worse, Crisis Core is not making sales. The first game did not even sell well when it first came out so why dump x-x millions in a second that already has a troubled starting game? Nearly every company that does a remake for a big title gets it mostly right on the first try - square didn’t even attempt that. I want to know why.
So glad that they remade this game. Crisis core was pretty good, but now the combat flows a lot better. Plus it was the perfect time to bring it back with the ff7 remake and all
I’m pretty sure everyone knows this already but a niche detail that you should know is that hair, clothing and personality aren’t the only thing different from Zack and Cloud, the way they carry their sword as well. If you pay close attention, Zack wears it with the silver edge facing inward and cloud wears it facing outward
The day i came home with my PS5 copy I felt a need to pull out my old PSP along side my original Crisis Core copy. I thought to myself, "About to replay the journey again...gotta thank Zack one more time for him becoming not only my favorite FF character but one of my general favorites in fictional ones of all time. " This time, unlike when I played this on PSP in highschool, I cried despite knowing how FF7 Remake is teasing a different reality.
Zack for the longest time was my favorite final fantasy character. Still might be. I think he's a rare case of that honorable good guy without any major flaws that somehow still resonate. Nowadays those types of heros struggle to be interesting with audiences, example Superman, but Zack I think with his leading through example and actually having to pay the consequences of living that honest life is what makes him so resonant. The dialogue in this game is not very good. All the genesis and clones bs also not very good imo. Zack though makes it all worth it. What a hero.
That transition to Aerith's Theme at the end was not fair. Warn a man before unleashing that heartbreaking melody! Jokes and emotional dam breakages aside, this was another great video! Thanks for sharing it with us!

One thing I always love so much about CC is that the story always felt for me like it was cut short, a fact that only amplifies the feeling of unfairness and grief for Zack's death. Because his life really was cut short
This is one of the few games where completing it 100% feels casual to me. It was one of the few games I had on the PSP for the longest time, so I would do run after run after run on it. Still f***** hate half the recast. Not the VAs. Just the voice work. Oh god, when it hits during the banora mission.

I absolutely love watching these videos and it’s about time as last week I’ve just finished final fantasy VII crisis core reunion and it’s such an emotional game. This is definitely a moving story to the legacy of my favourite final fantasy game.
Only marginally related, but I didn't know that Before Crisis will get a sort-of remake. That's really nice, I've always been interested in that game's story and characters.
You aren't the only one! I thought after Zack died, we'd cut to him waking up in the church him thinking that was a bad dream showing that this zack survived. It didn't help that interviews with developers made it seem like they were tying things together with remake/rebirth but not really only astetic wise not story. It really is just a better version of crisis, no reveals to rebirth so we just have to wait.
@@Dark_Jaguar I feel like they intentionally did this to confuse new players who only played Remake and wanted answers as to who Zack is... like; "Oh, here's that fight where he kills all of those Shinra Troopers and we actually get to play it? Cool." and then by the end it's like "Wait... wait no, he lived this, didn't he? What's going on?" The directors are intentionally trying to troll the new players and I'm all for it.

Why did you mention Seph's god complex as if it was nonsensical? It's the most logical outcome when you are the world's strongest human-ish person, he's basically Yujiro Hanma with a destiny because of what Jenova's kind do to planets.
Cloud doesn’t act like Zack. He is far from it. Zack is outwardly caring, a dork, and essentric, confident, Cloud is “cool”, reserved, quiet, to cool for school, arrogant. Cloud shares some personality mannerisms but Cloud acts like how he thought he would act as a Soldier not how Zack acts.
I may be wrong but when cloud stabs Sepihroth smoke comes out of the wound just like when Barrett got stabbed in ff7 remake, like the whisperers were protecting Sepihroth from dying just like they did with Barrett. cloud also get protected when he's stabbed ,you can see the smoke coming from his wound, how else would he be able to lift Sepihroth on the wrong side of a katana lol
Genesis and Angeal and their dialogue in this game totally ruin it for me. God it’s just so awful it retroactively cheapens moments of the original FFVII. The narrative goes from good to just so mediocre. I hope it’s all retconned in Rebirth and that Genesis and Angeal never exist in the Remake trilogy. Voice acting in CCR was fine if you play in the authentic Japanese voices.
the only thing i actively dislike, and i mean hate with vitriol, in Reunion..... is the buster sword. specifically, the FF7 remake copy paste of the sword. i havent done a side by side but i feel like they just copied the sword from 7-RE and put it here, due to the amount of scratches, dents and visual blemish on the edge. why do i hate this? "wear tear and rust. and thats a real waste" Angeal wouldnt have the sword in that state. at the very least with him it should be MUCH cleaner. not perfect obviously, but no blemish on the edge, far less scratches etc seeing it so busted up in Angeals hands just feels wrong to me. when Zack is using it then sure, thats fine. we actively block bullets with it in combat, use that look. and i know this is a very nit picky opinion that probs no one else would care about, but hey, i'm weird.
Played the game for the first time because of Reunion and loved the game. Combat was super fun and Zack and Sephiroth were awesome. Things i hated was Genesis and Angeal, one annoying as hell, the other bland and stupid, the writing/dialogue was abysmal and the story before Nibelheim was just plain bad. You make it sound like the game is perfect when it is nowhere near.
Yeah I agree the VA of the game was… ehhhhhhhh. With Rebirth coming out I hope there’s better lines and such with better emotion. However overall I think the game is great in bringing in new people to the greatness and tragedy of Zack Fair and the FIRST Soldiers.
I'm kinda glad this remake isn't connected to the FF7 remake. I don't wanna have to play a bunch of spin offs to fully understand the FF7R story... 😅 I'm still struggling to determine whether I like or not that they're changing the story at all.
Love these FF7 universe games on modern consoles! Never got to play the og's but main characters i know..from another square enix franchise kingdom hearts. Naturally i HAD to buy the remake when it was released to learn backstory of cloud, sephiroth, tifa and aerith..didnt really understand the fuss about the final cutscene where zack was show alive. Now i definitely do! Crisis core reunion was a day 1 purchase for me..and man the story after chapter 6 had me glued on my sofa untill i beat the game 😅 Cant wait for 2023 and remake pt2. I don't think it works that way. The Reunion ending is COMPLETELY different from the original ending in so many ways. Between FF7R's revelations as well as Reunion's ending, it's pretty obvious they're trying to bring Zack back and possibly even have Aerith live somehow. She's having premonitions just like Cloud is. I'm thinking they're probably toying around with the idea of Aerith dodging death but eventually succumbing to it as the plot ghosts demand that her death is necessary for things to continue. Honestly, we should just wait and see. Either way I think it's going to be some pretty crazy shit of substantial importance.
If zack is alive in the ff7 remake the story is tanked. his death is so so so important in the themes of ff7 and how it affects cloud that he needs to die. The fact that the remake is even leaving this up to interpretation is the biggest black mark on it
Got the Platinum and unfortunately bested the Superboss on hard before the video came out. After I spent 17 hours attempting it using costly punch, drain jump,and maxed stats (except magic). Afterwards, I proceeded to do the rest of the missable trophies, simply to make good use of Genji [armor] & the Heike soul + Divine 😏.
I hate to say it but honestly I could never get used to Zack’s new VA. I don’t know if it’s performance or direction but he didn’t have a ton of range, so during the truly emotional moments I felt like he fell flat. Hopefully there’s improvement when we see him again in Rebirth
I never heard the original VA so this did not bother me as much.. I thought the new VA would probably be carried to Rebirth though, otherwise why not just use the original.
How on earth did it take you 92 hours? It took me 38 hours to complete it, or well, the only thing I need is Buster Sword proficiency, as I didn't think you could get to 100% haha.
I’m happy for everyone that enjoys Crisis Core Reunion. I played FF7 Remake, but haven’t played the original (yet). Actually, this past year in 2022, I played through Final Fantasy IV, VI, and V (in that order). I liked VI the most, and though I thought the Job System of V was cool, I still liked IV more. I’ve played these kind of as a way to catch up on games I wish I had played when I was younger. The next game I’m going to play will be Chrono Trigger. Some point after that, I plan to return to Final Fantasy by playing the original VII. I already know the story, including its plot twists, but part of me thinks I should go back and get the whole experience.
Minerva on Hard Mode was grueling. They re-balanced Costly Punch to cost 15% HP instead of 1.5%. With 77 Million HP, you'd have to hit her 771 times. Flash Slash removes Phoenix Downs, which means if you get hit by it with low enough HP (which is going to be an issue with the nerfed CP), it's game over. Judgement Arrow also removes Raise, and at 100% power, one-shots you, which means you to at least get her down to 75% while keeping your own HP above 75,000.
This sounds painful AF.. I beat her on Normal, but I used CP, and mixed it up with Assault Twister+ as it hits multiple times. Glad there wasnt a trophy locked behind hard mode minerva!
Currently struggling with Minerva lol Also don’t forget that you can skip battle encounters by hugging walls, good for quickly clearing easy missions and getting items from those missions
Having this on my switch lite is so nostalgic. I used to wear my psp around my neck everywhere i went just to play peacewalker, birth by sleep, and crisis core
My biggest frustration was starting NG+ and realizing my 70% Mission progress doesn't carry over and I had to do them all again for the 100% My first time I got every chest but after that I just ran through them as quickly as possible so it wasn't too bad. The worst mission is that 1000 Shinra Troops mission.. .I had to do that shit twice.
Technically there IS a teaser to an unresolved plot point but it was in the OG Crisis Core as well. We STILL don't know what happened with Genesis after Dirge of Cerberus and I would LOVE a remaster of that game as well seeing as my only real complaint about it is that the controls aren't that great.
Wait. You have to... . . . . Spam Gil Toss to beat the secret boss, and pull slots to level up? Holy shit. Crisis Core is basically a single player gacha game.
You should have used Assault Twister + in buster sword stance. You knock off anywhere from 150K-200k. Paired with smart consumer maxed out you full heal 99999 with a single potion. And full heal your ap with a single soma.
I want this game, but comments about the voice acting make me very wary. Zack and Sephiroth were some of my favorites with the original Crisis Core and I have just not been crazy about their changes. Cloud, Barret, Tifa and Aerith were perfectly cast (to me) for Remake, but the ball was dropped (again, to me) with the new choices for Sephiroth and Zack. Not sure I want to spend so much money on a game I kind of still have (emulated on my PC, but I did have the original on PSP back in 2010) and I already know I won't enjoy as much as the original because of the changes. My hope is the game will be released on PC and some savvy person will provide a mod that allows us to use the original voice acting, even though I don't want all of the actors changed to the original ones. I usually don't play PC games since I don't have a gaming computer, but I'm willing to wait and push my laptop to its limits if necessary to have a better experience with this game.
You should have a search online, I am sure I read on reddit that PC users already have, or will soon have a mod to change the voices. TBH if I had already played this title, I wouldn't buy it. This was my first CC experience on PS5, the combat was great, the missions and DMW farm were a terrible chore, would not like to go through that again.
@@teeq985 Yeah, given that there isn't any new content, it does seem to be something not very worth it for us who've played it before. I mainly wanted to see the updated graphics and I think more of the lines were voiced, but that leads me back to my issue in my comment, lol. I'll mull it over.
Thanks for making this. Decided to pick the game up on switch. Since I work over full time work weeks, this has been great to play in bed an hour or so at a time before I go to sleep.
Love the thoughtfulness you and the team put into this. This was my first time getting to enjoy the game, and the missions are addictive! And I love the little side stories in them, like meeting Don Corneo’s niece, the hapless SOLDIER 3rd class, and Yuffie! The little surprises outside of the main story make the game so good for me.
Against Minerva, instead of Costly Punch, I preferred using Hammer Punch instead and pop Soma when the MP/AP draining attack hits. Still hits 99999 at 255 ATK. And of course, High Jump i-frame abuse to dodge attacks. Forget Curaga, Aerial Drain in Buster Sword Stance will heal for 50k. Speaking about Hard difficulty of course. Normal is a cakewalk anyways.
One of the things I thought was really interesting story-wise is that this is the only time we see the real Cloud's personality after he leaves Nibelheim but before Hojo's experiments. The Cloud we see in FF7 is an amalgam of Cloud, Zack, and Cloud's childhood view of what a SOLDIER 1st Class is like. In other words, he's a god dang mess. The FF7 remake does a nice of job of hinting at the remains of Cloud's real self buried under the chunni SOLDIER persona. It was also really cute to see how much Tifa loves Cloud. Her attempts to find out how Cloud was doing by asking if there was an blond SOLDIERs had me smiling. As to the gameplay itself, I honestly think the game was too small for its mechanics. You can easily beat the main story with just the three core elements (thunder, blizzard, fire), a healing spell, a attack command materia, and Barrier. The vast majority of players are never going to see the insane Fusions Jirard showed; hell, they might not even learn you can make Dark/Hell elemental materia yourself. Too much is locked behind the repetitive sub-missions, and I would not be surprised if the majority of players never did more than 20% of them. I really wish they had taken the opportunity to go back and take those DMW scenes and build around them in the main story so that the first time you see that event is in 'real time' rather than a DMW flashback. Maybe take some of those mission maps and stitched them together for missions around those scenes. It's a great game for FF7 fans, but I think it'll fall a little flat with non-fans. It depends too much on the player knowing FF7's story.
While I agree with most of this, I might be the sole exception to your last and second to last sentence. I hated, and still to this day do not like FFVII. However, this is my second or third favorite FF game of all time. Also, yeah I highly doubt most people made it past even 15% of the missions.
I managed to complete it in that time as well and i broke the game by overleveing in chapter 3 by doing all the missions apart from the Minerva one still need to do that one just need the right set up but taking a break and playing some other games instead

It’s not a little detail but a lot of people seem to miss it. Zack wears it like Angela, Cloud wears it for easy drawing and sheathing.
Not just that, Zack uses the blunt edge most of the time to cut down maintenance

The original crisis core is the only game to ever make me cry. The ending was so powerful.

This is definitely a moving story to the legacy of my favourite final fantasy game.
Only marginally related, but I didn't know that Before Crisis will get a sort-of remake. That's really nice, I've always been interested in that game's story and characters.
This game is so important to me that it became the first, and one of 3 handheld games I've ever beaten.
You aren't the only one! I thought after Zack died, we'd cut to him waking up in the church him thinking that was a bad dream showing that this zack survived. It didn't help that interviews with developers made it seem like they were tying things together with remake/rebirth but not really only astetic wise not story. It really is just a better version of crisis, no reveals to rebirth so we just have to wait.
I prefer it that way. It means we can use this as either a tie in to the original story or to the new story. Our interpretation is left to us.
@@Dark_Jaguar I feel like they intentionally did this to confuse new players who only played Remake and wanted answers as to who Zack is... like; "Oh, here's that fight where he kills all of those Shinra Troopers and we actually get to play it? Cool." and then by the end it's like "Wait... wait no, he lived this, didn't he? What's going on?" The directors are intentionally trying to troll the new players and I'm all for it.

I'm happy it doesn't lead to Remake, but Final Fantasy VII. A true prequel.
Cloud doesn’t act like Zack. He is far from it. Zack is outwardly caring, a dork, and essentric, confident, Cloud is “cool”, reserved, quiet, to cool for school, arrogant.
Cloud shares some personality mannerisms but Cloud acts like how he thought he would act as a Soldier not how Zack acts.
I may be wrong but when cloud stabs Sepihroth smoke comes out of the wound just like when Barrett got stabbed in ff7 remake, like the whisperers were protecting Sepihroth from dying just like they did with Barrett. cloud also get protected when he's stabbed ,you can see the smoke coming from his wound, how else would he be able to lift Sepihroth on the wrong side of a katana lol
Genesis and Angeal and their dialogue in this game totally ruin it for me. God it’s just so awful it retroactively cheapens moments of the original FFVII. The narrative goes from good to just so mediocre. I hope it’s all retconned in Rebirth and that Genesis and Angeal never exist in the Remake trilogy.
Voice acting in CCR was fine if you play in the authentic Japanese voices.
the only thing i actively dislike, and i mean hate with vitriol, in Reunion..... is the buster sword. specifically, the FF7 remake copy paste of the sword. i havent done a side by side but i feel like they just copied the sword from 7-RE and put it here, due to the amount of scratches, dents and visual blemish on the edge. why do i hate this? "wear tear and rust. and thats a real waste" Angeal wouldnt have the sword in that state. at the very least with him it should be MUCH cleaner. not perfect obviously, but no blemish on the edge, far less scratches etc seeing it so busted up in Angeals hands just feels wrong to me. when Zack is using it then sure, thats fine. we actively block bullets with it in combat, use that look. and i know this is a very nit picky opinion that probs no one else would care about, but hey, i'm weird.
Played the game for the first time because of Reunion and loved the game.
Combat was super fun and Zack and Sephiroth were awesome.
Things i hated was Genesis and Angeal, one annoying as hell, the other bland and stupid, the writing/dialogue was abysmal and the story before Nibelheim was just plain bad.
You make it sound like the game is perfect when it is nowhere near.
Yeah I agree the VA of the game was… ehhhhhhhh. With Rebirth coming out I hope there’s better lines and such with better emotion.
However overall I think the game is great in bringing in new people to the greatness and tragedy of Zack Fair and the FIRST Soldiers.
I'm kinda glad this remake isn't connected to the FF7 remake. I don't wanna have to play a bunch of spin offs to fully understand the FF7R story... 😅

Love these FF7 universe games on modern consoles! Never got to play the og's but main characters i know..from another square enix franchise kingdom hearts.
Naturally i HAD to buy the remake when it was released to learn backstory of cloud, sephiroth, tifa and aerith..didnt really understand the fuss about the final cutscene where zack was show alive. Now i definitely do!
Crisis core reunion was a day 1 purchase for me..and man the story after chapter 6 had me glued on my sofa untill i beat the game 😅
Cant wait for 2023 and remake pt2.

Its just to bad Zack Fairs new VA lacks the serious Zack needs and just always delivers his discount brand sonic impression.
i liked that game on psp, cleared it twice, the only thing keeping me from clearing it again in the new version is the vomit inducing voice acting.
I'm pretty sure they're not trying to say Zack was still alive in the FF7R, just that there was a reality in which he did survive.
I don't think it works that way. The Reunion ending is COMPLETELY different from the original ending in so many ways. Between FF7R's revelations as well as Reunion's ending, it's pretty obvious they're trying to bring Zack back and possibly even have Aerith live somehow. She's having premonitions just like Cloud is. I'm thinking they're probably toying around with the idea of Aerith dodging death but eventually succumbing to it as the plot ghosts demand that her death is necessary for things to continue. Honestly, we should just wait and see. Either way I think it's going to be some pretty crazy shit of substantial importance.

If zack is alive in the ff7 remake the story is tanked. his death is so so so important in the themes of ff7 and how it affects cloud that he needs to die. The fact that the remake is even leaving this up to interpretation is the biggest black mark on it

Got the Platinum and unfortunately bested the Superboss on hard before the video came out. After I spent 17 hours attempting it using costly punch, drain jump,and maxed stats (except magic). Afterwards, I proceeded to do the rest of the missable trophies, simply to make good use of Genji [armor] & the Heike soul + Divine 😏.
I hate to say it but honestly I could never get used to Zack’s new VA. I don’t know if it’s performance or direction but he didn’t have a ton of range, so during the truly emotional moments I felt like he fell flat. Hopefully there’s improvement when we see him again in Rebirth
I never heard the original VA so this did not bother me as much.. I thought the new VA would probably be carried to Rebirth though, otherwise why not just use the original.
How on earth did it take you 92 hours? It took me 38 hours to complete it, or well, the only thing I need is Buster Sword proficiency, as I didn't think you could get to 100% haha.

I’m happy for everyone that enjoys Crisis Core Reunion. I played FF7 Remake, but haven’t played the original (yet).
Actually, this past year in 2022, I played through Final Fantasy IV, VI, and V (in that order). I liked VI the most, and though I thought the Job System of V was cool, I still liked IV more.
I’ve played these kind of as a way to catch up on games I wish I had played when I was younger. The next game I’m going to play will be Chrono Trigger. Some point after that, I plan to return to Final Fantasy by playing the original VII. I already know the story, including its plot twists, but part of me thinks I should go back and get the whole experience.
You're gonna enjoy Crono Trigger. Its biggest problem is that it's too short, which is not the worst problem a game can have.
Minerva on Hard Mode was grueling. They re-balanced Costly Punch to cost 15% HP instead of 1.5%. With 77 Million HP, you'd have to hit her 771 times. Flash Slash removes Phoenix Downs, which means if you get hit by it with low enough HP (which is going to be an issue with the nerfed CP), it's game over. Judgement Arrow also removes Raise, and at 100% power, one-shots you, which means you to at least get her down to 75% while keeping your own HP above 75,000.
This sounds painful AF.. I beat her on Normal, but I used CP, and mixed it up with Assault Twister+ as it hits multiple times.
Glad there wasnt a trophy locked behind hard mode minerva!
Personally i feel like the ending was the worst part of ff7r.
The -Materia system- MateriaFusion is promising. I hope we see it used in the future.

Having this on my switch lite is so nostalgic. I used to wear my psp around my neck everywhere i went just to play peacewalker, birth by sleep, and crisis core
My biggest frustration was starting NG+ and realizing my 70% Mission progress doesn't carry over and I had to do them all again for the 100% My first time I got every chest but after that I just ran through them as quickly as possible so it wasn't too bad. The worst mission is that 1000 Shinra Troops mission.. .I had to do that shit twice.
Technically there IS a teaser to an unresolved plot point but it was in the OG Crisis Core as well.
We STILL don't know what happened with Genesis after Dirge of Cerberus and I would LOVE a remaster of that game as well seeing as my only real complaint about it is that the controls aren't that great.

Spam Gil Toss to beat the secret boss, and pull slots to level up? Holy shit. Crisis Core is basically a single player gacha game.
You should have used Assault Twister + in buster sword stance. You knock off anywhere from 150K-200k. Paired with smart consumer maxed out you full heal 99999 with a single potion. And full heal your ap with a single soma.
Honestly you can bypass the need for those items with the Genji Helm and Aerial Drain
I want this game, but comments about the voice acting make me very wary. Zack and Sephiroth were some of my favorites with the original Crisis Core and I have just not been crazy about their changes. Cloud, Barret, Tifa and Aerith were perfectly cast (to me) for Remake, but the ball was dropped (again, to me) with the new choices for Sephiroth and Zack. Not sure I want to spend so much money on a game I kind of still have (emulated on my PC, but I did have the original on PSP back in 2010) and I already know I won't enjoy as much as the original because of the changes. My hope is the game will be released on PC and some savvy person will provide a mod that allows us to use the original voice acting, even though I don't want all of the actors changed to the original ones. I usually don't play PC games since I don't have a gaming computer, but I'm willing to wait and push my laptop to its limits if necessary to have a better experience with this game.
You should have a search online, I am sure I read on reddit that PC users already have, or will soon have a mod to change the voices.
TBH if I had already played this title, I wouldn't buy it. This was my first CC experience on PS5, the combat was great, the missions and DMW farm were a terrible chore, would not like to go through that again.
@@teeq985 Yeah, given that there isn't any new content, it does seem to be something not very worth it for us who've played it before. I mainly wanted to see the updated graphics and I think more of the lines were voiced, but that leads me back to my issue in my comment, lol. I'll mull it over.
If you're watching, Square Enix, please give us an original Voice Actor version mod/DLC please!
After finishing Crisis Core, I went and played FF7R again and will probs go off and play the original yet again for the 100th time

Love the thoughtfulness you and the team put into this. This was my first time getting to enjoy the game, and the missions are addictive! And I love the little side stories in them, like meeting Don Corneo’s niece, the hapless SOLDIER 3rd class, and Yuffie! The little surprises outside of the main story make the game so good for me.

Against Minerva, instead of Costly Punch, I preferred using Hammer Punch instead and pop Soma when the MP/AP draining attack hits. Still hits 99999 at 255 ATK. And of course, High Jump i-frame abuse to dodge attacks. Forget Curaga, Aerial Drain in Buster Sword Stance will heal for 50k. Speaking about Hard difficulty of course. Normal is a cakewalk anyways.
One of the things I thought was really interesting story-wise is that this is the only time we see the real Cloud's personality after he leaves Nibelheim but before Hojo's experiments. The Cloud we see in FF7 is an amalgam of Cloud, Zack, and Cloud's childhood view of what a SOLDIER 1st Class is like. In other words, he's a god dang mess. The FF7 remake does a nice of job of hinting at the remains of Cloud's real self buried under the chunni SOLDIER persona. It was also really cute to see how much Tifa loves Cloud. Her attempts to find out how Cloud was doing by asking if there was an blond SOLDIERs had me smiling.
As to the gameplay itself, I honestly think the game was too small for its mechanics. You can easily beat the main story with just the three core elements (thunder, blizzard, fire), a healing spell, a attack command materia, and Barrier. The vast majority of players are never going to see the insane Fusions Jirard showed; hell, they might not even learn you can make Dark/Hell elemental materia yourself. Too much is locked behind the repetitive sub-missions, and I would not be surprised if the majority of players never did more than 20% of them.
I really wish they had taken the opportunity to go back and take those DMW scenes and build around them in the main story so that the first time you see that event is in 'real time' rather than a DMW flashback. Maybe take some of those mission maps and stitched them together for missions around those scenes.
It's a great game for FF7 fans, but I think it'll fall a little flat with non-fans. It depends too much on the player knowing FF7's story.
While I agree with most of this, I might be the sole exception to your last and second to last sentence. I hated, and still to this day do not like FFVII. However, this is my second or third favorite FF game of all time.
Also, yeah I highly doubt most people made it past even 15% of the missions.

This has got to be the easiest FF game to fully complete. Only took me 52 hours it's insane how easily you can break this game as early as chapter 3.
I managed to complete it in that time as well and i broke the game by overleveing in chapter 3 by doing all the missions apart from the Minerva one still need to do that one just need the right set up but taking a break and playing some other games instead
