We have mountain lions here in the Southern California desert. I occasionally hear one screaming in the night. It sounds like an unearthly woman screaming. Nothing makes my dogs fall more quiet and creeped out than that sound.
Our dogs get excited to that sound... Great Pyrenees (1 male, 2 female), Husky(2 male, 32 female), Malamute(1 male 14 female) all bred and trained by my second eldest daughter(she is also a Veterinarian going on 20 years now along with her husband) and two of our granddaughters (their husbands run our smithy and our mining machinery)! They like trailing wolf... off our homestead. Wolf packs are easy to dominate, concentrate on the alpha and the pack falls in line EVERY time...The Pyrenees go after the alpha the Malamute back them up from behind and the husky split into 2 teams and push the perimeter pack members toward the alpha then the chase is on...I've watched these "trailings" as we have named them because wolves follow paths when running for speed, from my youngest sons drones (he is our "tech guy" along with his 2 eldest daughters)! Then we show those trailings at our suppers... Its a good show since we don't do "television" on our homestead here in our neck of the wood Alaska!
we have them in northern Maine, here they don't follow you that far unless their babies are near and you got too close.
@@Mary-xc9dh Are you sure? Just because you don't see them does not mean they are not tracking you. We NEVER see them until they want to be seen, they are ambush carnivores.
As I was reading that I was thinking there is no way that happened and you made it up. Then I read Alaska and it all made sense.
@@davidmarwood775 LOL we have been breeding dogs before I was even born... they are the best deterrent besides our geese, even our dogs wont mess with them! Alaska is even less tame than before to be honest... When you don't keep the carnivores population down you have less game for them to hunt... and if you don't have game for them to hunt... humans are next on the food chain!

There have been some very recent ones where a guy is actually rock climbing and a bear climbs up after him. He kicks it away but it comes back for another charge. And a guy fishing in Florida puts his hands in the water to rinse them clean and a bull shark bites his hand and pulls him overboard.
Yea that bullshit about stupid bipeds that climb trees to get away from bears...or know they can climb them and climb a skinny one thinking they can't climb a skinny tree, then the bear slams into the tree and knocks it down...moral of the story trees don't matter, a steep hill does, go down it, not up it.

Had a forestry guy tell me that if you're hiking in the mountains in the western U.S., there's a 50% chance a mountain lion is watching you or at least knows you're there.

They can do a short sprint and hit 35 mph but they have no endurance.

Alligator top speeds don't exceeds 9mph on land... if that's a gallop so be it... Hell I'm 74 years old and I can gimp 5 miles in an hour, and I can go 40 MPH in my M5 halftrack! I live in the Southwestern U.S. in NM, and they have black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, scorpions, and rattle snakes here. A lot of people who live in NM are into hiking, fishing, hunting, overlanding in off road vehicles, and off grid rv camping. When you're out in no mans land, you have to be mindful of the wild life. Don't hike alone, bring a sat phone, gps tracker, Starlink anywhere wifi/internet service, plenty of bear spray, and some kind of long riffle or hand gun when exploring and hiking the forest, dessert, or mountain trails. Be especially mindful in early spring when black bears are coming out of hibernation. Also, remember mountain lions are active year round both day and night.

Dave, Alligators can reach speeds of up to 35 mph on land (though they are known to tire quickly). In the water, an alligator can reach a top speed of 20 mph.

To be fair most of these animals are just having a laugh at humans' expense. Like the crocs aren't interesting in the humans, only the fish. The bird was just having fun. The elephants are just playing around... If that one elephant wanted to hurt that girl for instance, it would have. The moose was just protecting her cubs that you can see clearly on the right.
Also, NEVER come up to a horse from behind... The horse means well but can't see you so if it gets frightened it's going to kick.
Almost all those animals are fucking awesome. They don't really want to harm you... They are either protecting their turf or their cubs, wanting to get their dinner (not human) or just afraid.
We see bears often here but if I’m ever walking and see a cub I’d be terrified cause the momma bear is gonna be close and pissed
Yeah we were driving through the Great Smokey Mountains one time and came up on a bunch of cars pulled over on both sides of the road and a bunch of people out looking up a tree at a baby bear. We rolled down our window and my husband asked then if that was a baby bear. They all yelled yes. He then asked them if they knew where it’s mother was and you should have seen them scatter back to their cars.

The only running of the bulls I'll ever do is if the bulls involved are Wagyu breed and they've just had their allotted bottle of sake. They'll be a bit slower since they're being fattened up for beef and they'll be a bit drunk. I can out maneuver a drunk bull. I can't take on a sober one.
There's only been a few recorded deaths by mountain lions. They only act tough with their babies around.
Also, crocs are fast as shit. You can't out run them. Gators are the slow ones.

The bear with cubs was not as presented. As I understand that was at Katmai. BTW, tis the season--there is a live feed now at Brooks Falls to watch the bears attending the salmon run. This time of year, they gather and munch on salmon to pack on weight before hibernation, come fall.

You must be careful about shooting a bear or mountain lion in the States. The authorities ( Rangers) will do a investigation to make certain you were justified. My friend was attacked by a bear in Montana & he shot it. He said he felt like a criminal because they couldn't find use of bear spray first. But he said it happened so quickly & he wasn't really thinking. Not just any gun will stop one either. You won't be taking one down with a pistol or even most shot guns you hunt deer with.
And another problem especially with bears is they lose their fear of humans and especially loud noises the more we are in their territory.
There are some places where just firing in the air will scare off larger animals but you just never know.
@@christianoliver3572 Bears aren't "losing their fear of humans" because of loud noises, they are actually growing more scared of humans.
You can kill a bear with a well placed .22lr shot to the head, a 9mm and .45 will kill even a brown bear but you have to know where to shoot it, usually people will say 10mm or higher for a bear, its all down to ammo type and shot placement....shotguns are also the main goto weapon for bears, slugs and even buckshot.
Their job is to make sure the animal was not killed illegally, if it is clear is wasn't and it was out of self defense and they still keep pushing that you might be guilty it is time to get a lawyer, because they are then likely out for money. If you are found guilty of killing a protected animal or an animal out of season they can take everything used during the killing, including the vehicle you were driving, car, truck, atv, boat, trailer..your cloths everything.

Black bears will generally leave you alone unless their cubs are nearby... Brown bears (Grizzlies) will eat you.. don't matter if they have cubs or not. If you're in the woods and see a black bear.. keep your distance and it'll likely ignore you... If you see a brown bear... GTFO!
The bull in the street could be from Terceira Island in the Azores. There’s history there with the bulls. When the Spanish tried to invade the island, the local farmers and ranchers let the bulls loose on the invasion beach, and caused major mayhem. The people celebrate every summer by letting bulls loose, one at a time, usually with a massive rope around the bull’s neck with bunch of guys hanging onto the rope to try to control the bull somewhat. There’s lots of people watching on the rock walls, and lots of food, beer, and wine. Fun times. I’ve seen the event a few times.

Maybe it's because I live in a more gun friendly state, but I have no idea why these people go into situations where they may encounter dangerous wildlife without bringing a gun.
I want to assure Mike that there are very few and limited areas in the U.S. where mountain lions are present and most people who hike / bike in those areas are aware of the potential encounter. The only predator you need fear in the U.S. is the one who walks upright on his back legs. There are some very dangerous ones mixed in with the general population. Different story for a different video - but thanks for your reactions.
I hear that Daz spent 6 months in Alaska, hunting Polar Bears using only his fists, and that's why Polar Bears are going extinct.

We tag all our big carnivores and can track them within 20 miles of our homestead in our neck of the wood Alaska, the wolves are easy to track because they pack up. The bears are solitary at most times except during mating and salmon runs so that is the best time to tag them. Doing this provides info to the rangers in the area (two of which are my grandsons) so they can warn other homesteads and idiots camping and wandering through our state parks within 40 miles of us! Personally I could care less for the idiots that are told, don't feed the carnivores. But they insist on bringing their children with them and going for WALKS hoping to see grizzly and then they have the nerve to get all pissy when the mean grizzly chase them... We have seen half eaten carcass's of cougar more time's than normal these days due to people up in arms about killing the OVER POPULATED "wilderness" of grizzly (grizzly's for some reason don't like cougars, go figure) that's our back yard so less of one carnivore means more food for the BIGGER carnivores! When will these animal activists learn that their thinking is killing OTHER wildlife! That's why after this year we will no longer tag and release, we will instead drug them and remove them to the NATIONAL PARKS, let the national parks take them out! Lets see what happens then! Good luck nature hikers hope you have your running shoes on! Here is a hint about grizzly... 3 boars(male bear) in a 10 mile radius is 2 to many, get the gist of what happens when they meet? If you don't then stay away from Alaska we have enough stupid people that call themselves wildlife experts... they hire people like me to show them wildlife so I take them to places that are ALWAYS over run with pissed off wounded bears...usually it only takes one encounter to get it through their heads that they made a big mistake! If you want to see wildlife up close get yourself a tank and stay in it! Oh you big game people do come up here we have plenty of bears for you, just be sure you are licensed for them, and stay off our homestead, poaching will not be tolerated!

Not actually. As I understand it, he was at Katmai. The bears have right of way. Thinking he did not attend the seminar when he arrived there. They were not following him--she was taking the cubs where ever and he did not understand what the rules are there.

@@htime9119 There were other clips of the mountain lions. THEY do not play--so many stories of them attacking people and even pets. They even go after people on bikes! Not sure what spooked that one to take off--but that was very aggressive posture. Generally, they do not back down from humans with noise and the like.
Yeah, he came upon her and her cubs (you see the babies first, then she comes around the corner at the top of the screen), and escorted his ass away for 6 minutes. Poor dude was terrified. 6 minutes of that must feel like 6 years.

Alligators can be very fast on land. Living in Florida, you are taught to run in a zigzag because they are fast going in a straight line.
If you can go 12 mph you can easily out sprint an alligator...now if you are a walking porkchop then I can see one death rolling your plump ass into a watery grave, just be sure to have someone filming it... zig zaging in the brush will slow you down, better to weave than to "zig zag"... And their best attack will always be the lunge...

Which is dumb, because that just shortens the distance between you. Mythbusters proved it wrong, too. You want to run in a straight line because while they are quite fast, they don't have the stamina for anything more than a short burst.
You never should run away from things like bears or mountain lions cause when you run they see you as prey so they run after you where they obviously will catch up

I said to look up the cougar/mountain lion chase without knowing it was included in this compilation. (Dumb) most victims are hikers or bike riders whose speed triggers their prey drive.
In the south (Florida) they are called “pumas” and are usually smaller. Adults usually survive mountain lion attacks, but there are countless stories of a group of hikers looking away for 2 seconds and a small child is silently carried off.

Apparently this guy stumbled across the mountain lion in the middle of a path, so he would have seen the attack coming in this instance.

The final video happened right outside of salt lake city, utah... in the mountains in slc, they say you never see a mountain lion, but they are probably watching you the whole time, and its true... I saw 1 one time, and it was about 20 feet from me... thank God my dad scared it away... but those cats are all over where I lived...
